Go for it, 100%. I have been overweight most of my life, but I met my partner after I had put a lot of effort into losing weight and was at my lowest ever (had just tipped into a normal BMI). I was 35 - if you are younger, so much the better. It's the most impactful thing you can do to increase your chances in the marriage market.

Good heavens, just end things.

Absolutely do not move in with him!! You don't give wife privileges to a boyfriend. If he said early 2027 and you trust his leadership, I would sit on your hands and wait till then, frustrating as it is. I wouldn't nag, although in the conversation about (not) moving in together, I'd try to gently remind him that you're taking him at his word on the timeline.

I wouldn't bother meeting up with him again. That's two red flags on your first date...just cut your losses.

You seem to assume all mothers are burned out. Do you follow any thriving, joyful mothers to at least give you a counter-perspective to what you read on a sub like regretfulparents? Tessa Romero and Melissa Woodward are two that spring to mind. Be very wary of buying too far into today's narrative that motherhood is nothing but tiredness, stress and self sacrifice. It involves a lot of that, yes, but the upside has been infinitely greater for me and for many other women. For what it's worth, I h…

Do not bring it up at all. Don't lie, but do everything possible to avoid putting a number on it. If he's remotely intelligent, he won't try to force you. Also, completely off topic but you mentioned a male best friend...that generally doesn't sit well with men, at least the kind of men a RP woman would be hoping to attract.

I've only read the first book, but so far book Claire isn't half as annoying as show Claire. Even then, I would say Claire is a modern woman written into a 1940s/18th century setting. I still enjoy the show enough to watch it, but mostly because of Jamie's character and her chemistry with him.

No, not too late at all. But put some serious effort now into self-improvement (where needed) and dating.

You should put it in your profile. It's something that will turn off a lot (probably the majority) of men in today's f**ked-up dating scene, but there's really no point wasting even a first date on a man for whom this will be an instant deal-breaker. I would just write a one-liner about how you would like a relationship and are not interested in anything casual. Then on first dates (you'll have fewer but they should be higher quality), bring it up by asking him what he's looking for. (I used to …

Run, run , run. He's 40. If he hasn't settled down yet and is still talking like this, he's a walking red flag. Sounds like he'd basically be using you to have kids and my bet is he would just bide his time about bringing up an open relationship again, once he got what he wanted from you. Above all else a man should make you feel safe. I personally wouldn't know a day's peace with a man like this. At 24 you can do so much better - don't throw away your best years on him.

Have YOU drawn a hard line of your own and told him no more tickling or biting under any circumstance, and that when you say no, it means no?

His vagueness and procrastination are huge red flags. 3.5 years has been more than enough time for him to decide if he wants a future with you or not. Was it a few months ago that he asked you to "give him a year"? (The fact that he said you could get married right away then is another red flag - that's BS and I'd bet anything he just said it to stop you from walking away then and there.) I'm torn between agreeing with the other poster that you shouldn't give him an ultimatum OR telling him that…

How many years have you been dating? Are you both on the same page about a timeline for engagement and marriage?

I don't personally believe that men and women can be friends and even if I did, I'd have cut him off after the behaviour you described. I also don't believe partners are ever really comfortable with their SO having "friends" of the opposite sex. I don't see why you would risk creating tension in your relationship with your fiancé for the sake of sparing this boy's feelings.

There's a lot in your post to worry about. I've seen too many posts from women who are the breadwinners in a relationship and end up basically being the housekeeper to boot. What exactly are these men bringing to the table? I also want to flag that at 28 you're at a critical age. If you started over now, you still have time to meet someone else and have children (if you want them) without overly fretting about it. If you go with the sunk cost fallacy and waste a few more years with him, you're i…

I met my fiancé at 35, once I got serious about online dating. Everything is still possible for you, if you date intentionally and put the effort in (it's a numbers game ultimately). Good luck!

It's a tough one. I was in a very similar situation up till recently (we're engaged now). If he has mentioned that he sees it happening before the end of the year, I would remind him of that in the meantime by bringing up (in a friendly, non-nagging way) how he's planning on choosing the ring, or what kind of rings you like...remind him that the expectation is there based on what he has previously committed to, without smacking him in the face (yet) with an ultimatum. If the end of the year come…

How did you type all of this out and not have your own answer by the end? I think therapy is over-prescribed on Reddit, but you would really benefit from it if you think there is even a 1% chance you should stay with this man.

Have you shared your desires with him and presented this as a problem to be solved? (Men generally like solving problems.) "I would like to have a child/children soon, and stay home to raise them myself while they're young.* How do you think we can make that happen?" *Suzanne Vencker has some great info on why mothers are irreplaceable in their children's early years. It may help to read up on that in case his "solutions" go down the daycare or stay-at-home-dad route. FYI I'm in a somewhat simil…

Yep. OP, this is how women waste the best years of their life on the wrong man.

There is no earthly reason to volunteer to a partner the number of men you have slept with. A mature man wouldn't ask because he doesn't want to know. If a man does press you for it, it shows a level of immaturity that means he very likely isn't marriage material anyway.

Yes, he was naively honest and yes, it's how all men think. The task of any woman in a marriage is to be different women to him, as the same woman. Him admitting what he admitted wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me. But if he (or you) thought he wasn't capable of a monogamous relationship, then it absolutely would be time to walk away.

Surely if a woman mocks you for this, it's a crystal clear sign that you're not compatible?

To be honest I didn't read all the way to the bottom, but I can confidently tell you this man wasn't worth your time. No man with "really high values and integrity" would need to say that to you; he would show you through his actions. As a woman, you are the architect and primary custodian of the relationship. To me, that means: Not giving everything away for free. Know your worth. You aren't a hooker, a housekeeper, or a roommate. Don't sleep with a man without being exclusive. Don't move in wi…

Totally agree with this. No man truly wants to know the answer to this question, but some of them can't seem to help asking anyway.

You’re still young and have only wasted 4 months. Don’t make it 4 years. Exactly. OP, I often see women posting along the lines of "I've sunk [two/four/ten] years into this relationship and I'm worried I won't find anyone else if I leave." Don't let yourself become one of those women. The idea of marrying your first love is lovely, but stories don't always work out the way we want. Even apart from the cheating, this boy has a lot of growing up to do (sending a picture of himself crying, seriousl…
