You started that sentence with "Rather than delete my comment..." and I'm saying that's exactly what they did do. Whether they should is a different discussion, and one I'm not trying to start. But you seemed to be misinformed on how comment deletion works.

Rather than delete my comment, let the community downvote it, or post an intelligent reply, they removed it from the thread but left it so that I can still see it. I had to log out to notice it was gone. That's what happens when a mod deletes a comment anywhere on reddit. They didn't work some special voodoo to make it remain visible to you. That's just how it works.

All the feminists I know are in favor of masturbation. Elders got canned because the Religious Right in the 90's were a bunch of prudes, and didn't want her telling their kids to get themselves off. That one had nothing to do with feminism.

I couldn't agree more. Plenty of women (myself included) are in favor of expanding what masculinity means. But it is not our place to do that work. It is our place to support the men who will. It wouldn't be right for women to tell men what manhood means.

Dude, feminists hate Cosmo. That's one of the things we have in common.

I say this as an openly feminist woman: Dworkin is crazy. Just completely fucking bananas.

Which goes a long way toward explaining why teenage girls are so often insane. (I know, I was one.) You do adjust to the hormones, though, and can again be well in control of your emotions. You just got it later in life than some of us.

This I agree with. Except in cases of child abuse, if you pay support, it should entitle you to time with your child. I thought that was law already, but if it's not, it certainly should be.

Can we please not do this downvote brigade bullshit? That would be awesome.

nlakes was banned by a random mod in another subreddit (probably a woman)" Actually, the mod in question is a man.

Well, no. And it's probably not the most common scenario, but still, it's wrong, and I totally agree with it being classified as rape.
/r/MensRights26/04/10 05:46 AM

Legally in California it's classified as a rape. As well it should be! You can't very well consent if you're asleep.

Alrighty, looks like it's yours. I've subscribed, too. I look forward to seeing what you decide to do.

I've Pm'd him about it. I imagine either you or I will hear back about it in the next few days. I'll keep you posted if he lets me know anything about it.

I'm sure qgyh2 wouldn't mind letting you have r/men. I'd be happy to bring it up to him if you like. It doesn't look as though he's doing much with it, and he stays pretty busy with the approximately 800 other subreddits he moderates. I think you could really do good things with it.

I'm afraid I'm not seeing the difference. Care to enlighten us? It's true that different individuals react differently on a psychological level, but, truly, that is not tied to their gender.

So, yes, back on the regular laptop, your list of comments does seem to about cover it. Notice how many of them are insulting to anyone who disagrees with you? That's a problem for us. See, about a year ago, I guess, we were losing subscribers in a big way. Just about all that was left was a bunch of people talking about how much they think women suck. You'd have fit right in back then. We started getting messages from some of our readers, telling us how much they disliked the turn the community…

Quite welcome, of course. We're not really evil, just trying to maintain a peaceful community. I'd hate for you to think badly, as I rather admire your comments.

You wouldn't be the first. By all means, if it makes you feel better, go right ahead. I'm browsing from my phone at the moment, so I'll get back to you on the comments. Have a lovely evening!

It wasn't just the one comment. We'd had our eye on her for a while. A lot of comments had been individually removed at that point, and she got swept up in weekly housecleaning.

You know what stops the spread of aids better than circumcision? Washing up after having sex. Not true. Washing afterward does basically nothing.
/r/MensRights16/02/10 04:02 AM

That works for me. If a man wants to be circumcised at 18 for religious reasons, I see no reason to prevent him from making his own decision. (Or if an 18 year old woman wants to have genital surgery) Informed consent, y'all. It's good medical practice.

For every one like me who sticks around, though, there are three who dismiss the whole thing due to trolling. Just so you know.

There is r/MensIssues, which was intended to be just that, but it's not very active.

Some people aren't going to like the answer, but the truth is, I noticed posts to here from some people who were hardcore trolling comment sections in r/women. Then, I discovered it's about 60% non-crazy-people, and I stick around to see what they have to say, which is often very enlightening.

Crito has been a mod of r/women from the beginning. She added me a bit over a year before the "takeover" you're always talking about. And the whole "stricter moderation" idea originated with her, with the full support of qgyh2, who as far as I know, actually started the sub. Long story short, there was no "takeover."

A charge of sexism is a very serious thing, which is why I abhor it being thrown around inappropriately. I just don't see it as being an inappropriate accusation. Yes, if we're being technical, sexism is by definition systemic, much like racism. The thing is, when someone is publishing articles that reinforce systemic sexism, racism, or other such -isms, they are part of the problem. And this is really in that territory as far as I'm concerned. He's reinforcing the gender dichotomy that holds wo…

It looks like we're just using different words for the same thing. In any case, dude has a warped view of both men and women, and what we "should be like." I totally agree with your friend, fwiw.
/r/MensRights02/02/10 05:55 PM

Mostly the broad, sweeping generalizations with no basis in fact. "All men are like this, all women are like that." Stripping the individuality from a group of people makes one a bit of a bigot.
/r/MensRights02/02/10 05:40 PM

because it is so accusatory, it almost borderlines on sexism. It crossed right over that border, my friend. Amazing how it manages to be sexist against men and women at the same time, though. That takes some talent.

The Navy is its own world. It has completely different rules and standards from the Army or Marines (though the Marines are technically organized as a branch of the Navy, still very different rules.)
/r/MensRights22/12/09 08:45 AM

A little naive of them, I think. I mean, put a bunch of men and women in close quarters for a year, and tell them they can't screw. How long do you really think it will take for that rule to be broken? It's trying to fight nature.

Unfortunately, reliable stats are hard to find. If you dig, you'll find advocacy one way or the other, either exaggerating or minimizing the problem. But, RAINN uses 1 in 4, and if we go with the high end of estimates of how many of those aren't genuine, 50%, we end up with something more like 1 in 8. Just for the sake of argument, let's say the other end of estimates is 1 in 32. We'll give it a 4X serial dilution, and see if it still stands. I know more than 32 people. I'd even say I know more …

I'm not seeing "insane zealotry" here. The likelihood of each of us knowing someone who had been raped is pretty high. Personally, I know four women and two men who have. It's not really such a controversial statement.
/r/MensRights20/12/09 05:55 AM

Brilliant comment. But, I feel the need to point out that it's not really men oppressing women and women oppressing men, so much as it is a certain set of powerful people oppressing both genders in their own unique way. Blaming each other is just a distraction.

Too bad, men don't go to the women's sites and do this. You don't. Other men do. All the time.

so then as a man you should understand that Women Infants Children is a poor name, Being that you are none of the above, but still participated. By buying food for an infant or child. See, the name tells you who the food is for, not who can get the checks. The program is to feed pregnant of nursing women, infants, and children. Hence it's called WIC. But dad can use the coupons to get food for the infants and children. Making sense now?

So, in other words, you're making shit up. If you want a ban, I'll be happy to give you one. Just quit fucking lying.
/r/MensRights15/11/09 08:37 AM

Well, for one thing, I know I didn't ban you. I know ginger didn't ban you, since you're having the same conversation with her just below in this very thread. qgyh2 hasn't banned anybody in r/women, and he and I were just talking about this in the private sub. And Crito hasn't been online in several days. So, who exactly enacted this phantom ban? The ban notice would tell you, if you got one.
/r/MensRights15/11/09 06:59 AM

Did you get a ban notice? Reddit now PMs you when you're banned. If you didn't get one, then you just bumped into the posting timer. If your first two or three comments in a subreddit are unpopular, it makes you wait 15 minutes to post again. We can't turn it off.
/r/MensRights15/11/09 02:01 AM

You weren't banned in the first place as far as I know.
/r/MensRights14/11/09 07:49 PM

You're not banned in r/women. I just checked. Your name isn't on the list, and there's no voting post on it in the private sub. Your comment was unpopular, yes, but let's refrain from making baseless assumptions, please. EDIT: Better wording.

As one of the mods of the subreddit in question, I'd like to clarify this for those who may be interested in hearing the other side. This was not due to some political difference, and it was not the reasonable viewpoint spartaa would like you to think. He made a dig at "nasty roast beef vaginas" and suggested they all need to be trimmed (surgically, I must assume, as that was the topic of the article in question) and bleached. Oh, and anuses as well. And just as I'm sure none of the gentlemen he…

Well, to be fair, no one "gets themselves pregnant." I'd even say you can't unilaterally get someone else pregnant. (Cases with lack of consent excluded, of course.) Because it takes the actions of two people for a pregnancy to occur. Unless we're talking about parthenogenesis, but as far as I know, humans still can't quite swing that one.

Thanks, Gareth. Actually, it looks like some trickster sent me a fake ban notice, using a name similar, but not identical to your actual mod. I didn't mean to stir up any trouble by it.

I honestly wouldn't know. I've only ever been here when one of these threads gets posted. If I'm wrong about the demographic, I'll retract the statement. Honestly, my only experience with this whole subreddit has been exactly this, and I think this kind of thing is pretty immature, and does nothing to advance conversation, which is the only reason I'm here, just to ask that we not do this shit to each other.

Charming. Well, I guess there's no real point asking for civility from this crowd, is there? Carry on, then.

Look, this happens every few months. Someone will come troll a thread in r/women or r/feminisms, and post it here as some kind of call to action to come act like a jerk. And it takes days to clean up the mess after some of your lurkers come trolling. Could we not do this, please? I don't see a bunch of threads in women or feminisms that are just links to comments here, and I wish you guys would just cut it out. Please? Okay, downmod away, sorry to interrupt the boys' club.
