A very thought provoking post. lovely writing. I have always been happy to have the ability to opt-out so to speak. As a bi-lady being with women has always been easier than being with men. Society seemed to sit-in and listen in the relationship with me when I dated men. It wasn't so much as all women were horrible people, but the power to truly fuck someone else's life up for your own benefit is there. And you're encouraged to access that power. And if you feel uncomfortable about it, then clea…

Agreed. I like how it goes beyond just "Women can abuse too!" and includes queer families in that wider judgement. The logical assumption SHOULD be that the law needs to look at these cases as assaults against people-not men and women.

Thank you for sourcing. I am commenting primarily so I can use this stat with some women I like to talk gender theory with. I appreciate the use of easy to access statistics, from a reputable source.

"We must quickly give these rights and privileges to all genders and identities! Wait... Those don't sound nice. Nevermind-gender equality only works on nice things-Right?" </feminism>

And hey, I'm not saying that not valid. I live where I do specifically because there isn't a lot of bigotry towards queers (legally speaking) and I can(did) marry my wife without issue. It was just that last line that I'm trying to tease out, though you're right, the "and you don't have to worry about being accused of thinking the wrong thing ." sounds rather familiar!

I'm kind of curious what you mean about the women being women and the men being men. I guess I would kind of assume that what you're saying is that the gender roles you observe there are ones you approve of? Or is there less gender-based strife, for either side?

Here here. I'm from the other side of the side of the fence. I'm a woman who prefers a male doctor, both for the GYN side and the family doctor. The reason has nothing to do with the perceived confidence in my doctor, familiarity with the equipment, or even handsize (all of which seem to come up when we're talking about the genders of doctors.) I'm a lesbian and having a male doctor totally desexualizes it completely for me. Literally, going boldly where no man has gone before, so it's great whe…

This seems less like a gender issue, more like a, one size fits all approach that clearly doesn't fit with any athletes. I was under the impression that 800 cals was enough for a growing teen, regardless of gender. Feel free to correct me though!

It's one of the best jobs out there if you can deal with all the BS around it.

As a gay female teacher-Shit like this is terrifying. I always kept the door open at lunch, I always had another teacher with me while I was coaching teams... It's still hard, you still worry. I found myself under similar scrutiny and I gotta say-If I were male, I would never teach for this reason. Constant fear and vigilance.

Well put. The buffoon, absent father stereotype has already told you and everyone around you, that a father is unsuitable parent.

I agree that it's important to show when there are some ugly opinions definitely gaining ground here on reddit, but at the same time I get icky SRS feelings when we go hunting in the 'more comments' section to find the wackos.

Yuuup. I went to look and found some sane advice at the top. With reddit, sometimes letting a post mature a bit allows the hive mind to come up with some great responses. Sometimes it turns into puns and reactions. shrugs This thread turned somewhat sane, but of course, the further you go down, the weirder it gets.

:/ then generally they don't know how to deal at all. Comical and sad, but lesbian abuse is impossible for many cops to figure out unless one looks like the man. Three guesses on which one gets locked up then.

Well jebus, this is a warmer reception than I expected :) I'm here because I really wanted to hear the other side, and I've stayed because there's a good chance I'm going to be raising a little boy with my wife, and this is the type of advocacy I'm expecting to take up. I guess I was concerned mostly because I was used to the feminazi model of segregated spaces, segregated voices. This is a wildly different, and welcome way of doing things.

chuckles I will, but not until I understand better and understand more. You're talking to a recovering feminist here and so far most of what I have to say is 'Holy shit-I had no idea' and 'I swear - Not all women are like that.'

holds up shaky hand I like both subreddits... I don't comment here because I feel like I get more out of listening in and learning from men's experiences, rather than taking away from their space.

What gets me here is the age. 14. Jesus-This is a child who will carry this with them the rest of their life. If anyone here needs counselling it is the child.

One informed man, which is better than how today started. I keep this subreddit on my feed because I think it should be required reading as a woman. I'm sorry you feel so powerless. The community here is powerful. Draw on them, lean on them.

Exactly. I'm not really sure what kind of mind reading this man was supposed to engage in...

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
