Interestingly enough, I just spent the evening with friends, talking about the role of willful ignorance in the dissolution of the majority of our relationships in our mid-20s. I believe the hipsters you're thinking of are as much hipsters as the kids shopping at Hot Topic are punks. Hipsters, emo kids, punks, hippies. They each had a first-wave of trendsetters.
