i think you may have mistook my tone as being urgent and appalled - it's just the first time that my opinions have differed from those represented by the show, and that made me step back to think about it.

i definitely knew they edited the stuff to twist their own effect, but I've never seen one of those segments include someone actually notable before - usually its just a random person that suits the segment, not a giant author. and yeah, i was more concerned with the Warren Farrell bit - the dudes in the forest seemed legitimately strange to me

for the first time, I realized that the daily show can really take anyone and edit the clips until they look crazy and stupid... I'll look at other daily show bits with a grain of salt from now on. The "foolish old professor" she interviewed is the only man to be elected three times to the Board of Directors of the National Organization for Women in NYC, and is among the nation's leading experts on gender issues. I do wonder whether the daily show has ever done a similar lambasting of feminist g…

I think your question about a possible hypocracy between the differing explanations of sexual orientation vs sexual identity somewhat confounds the issue. Since you said that you lean more towards the "nature" side of sexual-identity, I assume that your real problem is with the belief that 'gender' is entirely a social construct - that any differences between men and women are all the result of our socialization. I started thinking about this a lot recently because I've witnessed a lot of public…

Can anyone explain why she thinks the speed of light is masculine? Or why its inclusion into a fundamental mathematical relationship makes it privileged? The speed of light doesn't care that it is a part of an equation - its there because it works, and other variables aren't there because they don't work. This article has completely dazed my senses.

this is in no way relevant to the article or the issue, but i can't stop seeing "womenslaw," kinda like coleslaw, with a more feminine taste. its up there with other funny URL mashups, like www.WomensExchange.com

I love this guy. He writes a tongue-in-cheek advice column in the Portland Mercury (a small-print free newspaper in portland, or). It's one of the few things I read on a regular basis. It's called 'Savage Love," check it out: http://www.portlandmercury.com/portland/ArticleArchives?category=22115

Fixed that for me ? Perhaps its worth saying that I don't condone the idea of pampering the moms so that their self-esteem doesn't get hurt - I think the notion of doing that is absurd on its face. I posted because I found the article interesting - and it doesn't even suggest that something should be done about it. Edit: also, if I met a woman who actually complained about her loss of self-esteem in this issue, with the expectation that the father should try being less helpful, I would be appall…

It's moments like these that I realize absolutely that many Feminist organizations don't just strive to improve the rights of Women, but specifically rally women against a man's attempt to do the same for themselves. Honestly, the only reason they don't like it is probably because a male-oriented right's group is advocating it. I agree with aglet - my frustration is palpable.

I found this article kind of upsetting. A quote from the article: Men are guilt-deficient, suggests the study, which was published in a recent issue of The Spanish Journal of Psychology. We lack “interpersonal sensitivity,” while women suffer from destructive guilt largely imposed by society. So women need support, while men need fixing. I can just imagine the way that this article could be spun into a man-basher.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
