It is projection. The women know full well that, if they were in government, they would only care about women, so they assume the men are doing the inverse.

The perfect is not the enemy of the good. We need more people expressing the MRA position--and they shouldn't be shy about arguing based on anecdote, or whatever else they have. The reason feminists are winning is not that they have better arguments, but the public audience is more receptive (due to gynocentrism and male disposability). It will take years before people are accustomed to hearing about men's issues, so that they are able to sincerely listen. Everyone who wants to contribute to tha…

Give 'cuck' a chance! I don't love its use in the title of this post, but it's a useful word. "Cuck" is basically an updating of the word, "schnook," made relevant by our political moment. It refers to people who allow themselves to be taken advantage of, particularly by others abusing their good intentions. For example, "Tell me your perspective. I want to learn from you. ... Oh, your perspective is that I was born a no-good shitlord. Ok, I will now believe that about myself." Powerful words li…

This is a nice quote: I used to imagine having a boy would be an opportunity to raise a young man to respect women, to understand how vital women are to the global equation. I thought my focus would be to make sure my son grew up to understand the beauty and magic of women so that he would be a strong man who would contribute to equality. What I didn’t realize is that boys have to be reminded of their own magic, of their rights purely to exist, and they too have to defend their right to equality…

Are women treated worse than men for the most part? Personally I think yes but not by that much. Welcome! Arguing over who has it worse is more trouble than it's worth. Both genders have problems. It sounds like you probably agree that there is too little discussion of men's issues, relative to women's. I encourage you to consider yourself a supporter of the men's rights movement.

There is a shift towards talking about it more. People like Warren Farrell and Paul Elam are pushing to use the name, "Men's Movement," instead of "Men's Rights Movement," to reflect a broader scope that includes the culture of manhood. The current male culture is downright sickening. We suppressed and deny these pressures. Blue pill men almost never talk about it.

modern social factors which find male insecurity very convenient for the purposes of the stable growth and maintenance of society. ... Overwhelmed by feelings of inadequacy, shame and hopelessness - feelings that are given to them for the false empowerment of women and the profits of a system that views men and boys as fundamentally disposable - they sadly choose to kill themselves. Suicide is the 7th leading cause of death in men. Insightful stuff.

This really strikes a chord for me. Panic of being a "loser" lives right under the surface of men's experiences. At best, it motivates hard work, but often leaves men grasping at straws: building psychological shields of bluster and machismo; burying their heads in the sand with distractions; or reaching for the salve of unearned moral superiority promised by feminism and social justice.

Trump may be a Republican president, but he does not represent right-wing values. (Notice how the intellectual right is full of never-Trumpers.) I find it funny that I'm arguing this point, since I've always tilted politically Left. I'm just pointing out a textbook Left/Right dichotomy. Of course, this large-state/small-state divide is not the whole story, but it is a large part of it.

I'm not really invested in the show, and not clued in to pop-culture discussions of it. My walk-away impression is that it was an inflated Lifetime movie, where male=devil, female=angel. They had head-faked that it would be different, but that was a MacGuffin. Both disappointing and typical. Btw, I'm not saying that you are overreacting or anything, just that this particular show isn't getting a lot of my attention.

I watched it, and was also disappointed that the much-hyped suspenseful reveal was that a wife beater gets his "due" and is killed. The show seemed to have a lot of promise: great production values, good acting. In the early episodes, it built up tension nicely (almost in the style of the first season of True Detective). The premise was, "These women have dark secrets. You wouldn't believe what they are hiding." But that was a psyche-out. None of the women ever did anything really bad. The big r…

Like the author of the review, I am a former male feminist, and this passage resonated with me: [Even as a male feminist, I hadn't understood men, how they think, and why they act.] It would take over a year of analyzing “women and children first,” the long traditions of male disposability and chivalry, and the internalized “man up!” psychology to suddenly find myself red-pilled. I had to discover that my genitals had been mutilated. I had to follow the footnotes to see how shockingly feminists …

Great response video! Peterson is insightful on a lot of topics, but he's ass backwards on MGTOW. You can see him short-circuit off his usual thoughtful analysis when he jumps to the shaming tactic--calling anyone who doesn't want relations with women a "pathetic weasel." Sad.

Good, thoughtful stuff. On romantic love: Our dominant mythology, euphemistically referred to as romantic love provides an example of the urge to power by those who perpetuate it, for behind each romantic story is the goal of increasing the power of women through acts of male chivalry. Neither does the myth escape the rhetoric of feminists who are the leading promoters of it: males are latent beasts who must atone though gestures of chivalry, and women are damsels in distress. And never listen t…

I strongly encourage you to see "The Red Pill" movie when it comes to Netflix DVD next month.[1] One of the things it does well is depict how feminists have silenced and shamed efforts to discuss men's issues. Learning about that dynamic totally changed my perspective on feminism. Why not say you support "gender equality" (or "egalitarianism") rather than feminism? Why stay committed to a word that clearly favors one gender? We've already changed a lot of words: 'chairman' is now 'chairperson'; …

Society raised you on a fairy tale. So much suffering comes from being unable to let go of those unrealistic expectations. So you think the mensrights subreddit is the wrong place to complain about commonplace, misandrist messages in the media? Messages that would get writers fired if directed towards any other group? This clip points to a trope that is upheld right up and down the power chain: from stupid advice columnists, up to the federal government's policy of forcing colleges to expel young men for their supposed sexual follies. Of course, we should complain about it here.

It is established in the population DNA distribution that "more women than men were breeding throughout human history"--i.e, the man who gets to breed tends to do it with multiple women.[1] And who is going to provide for all those kiddies? You seriously think one man and ten women can hunt/gather as much food as ten men and ten women? It is not that the men were summarily killed--even though they were disposable. For example, their willingness to risk their lives on a hunt benefited the group. …

Beauty standards affect men very differently than women. Everyone wants to be attractive but that goal is unattainable for most men, while within reach for most women.[1] This leads to different psychology: women feel anxious, while men feel rejected. Many women are "on the bubble"--attractive on a good day, but not a bad day. That is stress inducing and no fun. For example, seeing sexy women in advertisements can cause a spiral of self-judgment. Men have a different set of issues--sadness, reje…

It is based in biology. There is effectively no limit on the number of women a man can impregnate. The reproductive bottleneck on a population is the number of healthy women. Societies developed to sacrifice men to the cause of maximizing that number. This also introduced dominance struggle among men, with the winners fathering most of the children--and thus passing on their strong genes. The system served a valid purpose, back when the survival of our species relied on maximizing population gro…

Mens rights is not a conservative/liberal issue. This is a huge problem for red-pill guys. 99% of people are just plain misled on gender issues. Being around them can be grueling. Two solutions: (1) Convert the ignorant. I've seen "The Red Pill" movie, and it is amazing. There are definitely a lot of male friends I will be sharing it with once it is available. (2) Red pill guys need to learn to support each other. This subreddit correctly resists labeling MGTOW as a "community" (which it isn't--its a point of view). However, guys do need to fo…

It's a home run. Not perfect, but a game changer for the MRM. I'm not saying that it breaks new ground, or that it will change everyone's mind. People didn't come to their crazy gynocentric beliefs overnight, and they won't be changed overnight. However, supporters of the MRM will now have a powerful introductory documentary where they can start the conversation.

This is why the "The Red Pill" movie is a game changer (coming to Netflix on DVD in March).[1] I really relate to your situation. Men's rights is such a large topic, and so contrary to "the narrative," that nobody can cover it in a single conversation--and when I tried, I often got incredulous stares, as if I were talking about Bigfoot. Before "The Red Pill" there were various books (like "The Myth of Male Power"), but they were just voices in the wilderness. "The Red Pill" synthesizes where we …

When you say you "feel the MRA movement," that doesn't sound patronizing in the slightest. You sound like an egalitarian, and I appreciate your being willing to check out what MRAs have to say. And I appreciate that it raises your guard when MRAs paint feminism as the enemy, but it happens for good reasons. What does Hillary mean when she says, "I believe the future is female"? I feel that feminism is a supremacy movement. Most feminists, are nice people and are not supremacists--but they are su…

I had seen a comment where your story about being groped was minimized, which is disappointing. So I'm sorry not only that you were groped, but also that your story was met dismissively here. You are very conciliatory to imagine that "men don't fare much better." Honestly, unwanted attention isn't a problem for any but a tiny, tiny fraction of men. Indeed, most men will never feel desired for their bodies. That may seem hyperbolic to you, but if I'm exaggerating at all, it is very slightly. This…

When I say you have drunk the Kool-aid, I mean that you seem to be construing this situation through the lens of the demonization of male sexuality, and the framework that men are oafish brutes who are inflicted upon innocent and pristine women. the women got organize first, and [a women's march is] what it became. I have no problem with an inclusive march where women happen to be the leaders, but they explicitly chose not to do that.

It wouldn't seem that the author is a feminist[1], and she clearly doesn't recognize feminism's supremacist tendencies. I know that most feminists would described themselves as equality-focused. They are nice people who want to be well intentioned, but there is a huge gap in terms of how feminism acts in practice. A self-reported belief + a willful blindness = a different actualized belief. For example, if I believe that assistance should be provided for whoever is suffering, but I also refuse to observe that any men are suffering, then my actualized belief is that only women should receive aid. As a former feminist myself, I know how difficult it is to come to terms with the truth of what that movement has become. The MRA community uses a metaphor of the "red pill"[1] to describe the feeling of unfolding revelation that gender politics is actually completely different from what we've been educated to believe it is. I hear a creaking sound from how far you're bending over backwards. OP spoke truth, and you are imagining that he didn't use the super, secret, magic words that would have made people listen to him. It's not that MRAs are "very confrontational"; feminists don't want to hear the message, so they critique the messenger's tone. There is no correct tone. The world presents men with a winner-take-all deal, with most of the goodies going to a very few apex men. Most men live in scarcity, which makes it hard to have integrity. Think of how often you hear men say, "Most guys are assholes . . . (but not me)." They think they are just selling out their brothers, but really they are also selling out themselves. Sad.

However, these [Cassie's video diary of her journey of discovery] were my girlfriend's favorite scenes so you'll just have to see the film for yourself and decide. Your question requires delicate handling because of the common trap of assuming that negative male behavior results from innate tendencies, while anything positive results from privilege. A trend story with focus on one woman whom lots of tech companies fought to hire, before she chose Cisco's board, which pays her $75,000 per year, plus stock worth "several hundred thousand dollars" (for a part-time position)--despite that her "resume is atypical of board members at Cisco, where directors tend to be more experienced."

Of course, movies need bad guys, and I don't have a problem with lots of those being men. But we've landed in a weird cultural spot where content creators are scared of pissing off the Left, who insist that women be lauded in every moment. So the creators do the natural thing and make men the source of everything evil and the butt of every joke. What's strange is that viewers don't even notice it. Their antenna are minutely tuned with empathy and compassion for women, but for men they are tin-ea…

It's so funny that the original song was written for women, for a 1944 musical targeted at women. It was premiered as a duet between Frank Loesser and his wife.[1] Women's love of the song is what kept it alive for so many years -- until they decided it had been evilly inflicted on them by rapists. I did read the not-rape story from her memoir for educational reasons though. It is amazing how that story was interpreted as a rape. I remember when the book first came out and Dunham pushed back when others said it involved a rape story. Since then, she seems to have embraced "victimhood."

How do we know that she didn't know? It sounds to me like the defense would claim she didn't know--so as to take away her revenge motive. Legally, she is more sympathetic if she acted out of ongoing fear than if she was trying to get back at him for a tragedy that she blamed him for.

It is hard to evaluate the claims of abuse and cause of the son's suicide because the victim (husband) was silenced by being murdered. Society is all to willing to swallow the he=evil, she=innocent story, which is why she was pardoned (after the court system determined there was no legal reason why she should not serve a long sentence). A lot is wrong with it. Why are men so desperate to earn $$ that they will put their lives at risk? Because society tell them that career success is the only way men can have value. It is a myth that, within the third world, girls are deprived education greatly more than boys are. As I have done in other responses in this thread, I point you to Hans Rosling's 2014 TED talk, discussing public misinformation on this topic. http://www.ted.com/talks/hans_and_ola_rosling_how_not_to_be_ignorant_about_the_world#t-215676. It is a myth. Please check out Hans Rosling's TED talk.[1] As he states, the few cases where girls are denied schooling get a lot of coverage, which leads people to disregard the vast majority of cases where they don't. Yes, more girls than boys are denied schooling, but the numbers are pretty close. There is no excuse for ignoring all those boys and pretending only girls suffer. Obama and CNN are stirring up moral outrage based on the idea that women/girls around the world are deprived education, and Obama is touting the billions of dollars that have been pledged on the issue. I don't think this is true. A big reason that so many women are leaders of the men's rights movement is that feminist logic insists that women's voices be listened to, and so female MRAs can't be dismissed as easily.
/r/MensRights18/09/16 07:43 PM

Perfect example of feminist-style sex-crime legislation: contact is presumed illegal, but the accused can try to prove an "affirmative defense"--ie, a special circumstance that makes it not illegal. Feminists push for this stuff because they know that the system sides with them over men. They don't have to worry about being unjustly charged, and these laws help to guaranty that if they ever want to destroy a man, it will happen.

"Loser" is a gendered term; only a man can be one. In society's eyes, we lack inherent value. We're either the alpha, or we're worthless. You are right to reject this bullshit conditioning. Everything you need is already available to you. You've been told that you need to work hard to dig yourself out of a hole. Truth is, that hole doesn't even exist.

Feminists, once again, responding to facts with hysteria and accusation. His speech[1] is super wonky and detailed. It is fact, fact, fact, fact. All clearly sourced and data-oriented. It is not a polemical broadside, but a heavily researched and exacting description of how gender plays into the criminal justice system in his area. Because my introduction to the "Red Pill" term was from the subreddit of that name, I initially groaned when I heard the name of the documentary. But, as I now understand it, the film refers to the red pill in a different context--opening one's eyes and seeing the reality of gender dynamics. As such, I think the title is perfect.

Below is a re-post of a comment I made on another thread about this case. This important decision means, in effect, that colleges planning to punish men in these cases must calculate that, if they do so, there is a good chance of being sued and either settling or paying $$$ to defend (much higher defense fees than before the decision). This also means that plaintiffs' lawyers will be more willing to take up representation of these young men, because of the high likelihood of being able to get a …

Men face far more body shaming than women. For women, the "problem" is that some women's bodies are adored more than others. For men, if they reveal an extra inch of skin it's, "You're gross. White feminist women want their fathers, brothers, and sons to pay the check. White people have been doing pretty damn well for the last several hundred years. In the last fifty, there has been a "filling-in" where other regions of the world are catching up, and as a society we are now dealing with the transition between (a) there being a distinct first-world (the Western world) and a whole lot of third world, and (b) a more world-is-flat, prosperity-is-more-widespread situation. I laugh at feminist hollering about the "culture" of "privileged" athletes "abusing" women. What if guys complained that supermodels treat men like dirt? Supermodels probably do, but who cares about that 0.01% of women? If you have a high SMV, you set the terms, duh. But it's not obvious to women. Apex men (like pro athletes) are the only ones they see--everyone else is invisible.[1] So when those guys act entitled women feel like there's a problem. This ruling a big deal! This makes it MUCH easier for young men caught up in the campus-sex witch hunt to pursue claims in federal court. The ruling is immediately effective within the second federal circuit (NY, VT, and CT), but the second circuit is highly influential, so this is likely to be adopted in other places, as well. Here's what it's about. A plaintiff initiates a lawsuit by filing a "complaint," which includes a statement of alleged facts. Ordinarily, the defendant then files an "ans…

Dark times to be a man who isn't on a relationship strike. "Dark world," is more like it. As you explained, gynocentrism results from an evolutionary imperative, so it simply is not going to go away. The question, then, is what do you do, given an imperfect situation. As an analogy, psychologists will tell you that racism (or, put differently, in-group affinity) is natural. But our society has thankfully gotten to a point of at least recognizing this tendency and trying to teach people to police…

Thank you for the response. marriage != mgtow is certainly the consensus answer to my question. The idea that men should not look to other men for connection and belonging: (1) is an example of blue-pill thinking that "men must be XYZ way," (ie, stoic, needing no external validation or community) or else they are not "real men," and (2) reflects internalized misandry[1], with thinking that one should not be too close to other men, because men are repulsive. The problem is, what they referred to as equal was that if 19 men and one woman applied for a job in the gaming career, the woman should have an "equal" opportunity at gaining the job; and the way it was said was as if she should hold the same weight as the 19 men that applied for the job together, as if it were the female sex versus the male sex. Few women are elected because women aren't miserable enough to go into politics. Men face intense pressure to distinguish themselves in their careers, because it is basically their only path to being validated and valued. Yes, it is a minefield out there. We need to school ourselves on how to start advocating delicately, at least starting out as honey, rather than vinegar.
/r/MensRights18/06/16 01:45 PM

We can start to change it by helping people exercise their empathy-for-males muscles, starting with male members of sympathetic groups (such as children, veterans, and the disabled).
/r/MensRights18/06/16 01:42 PM
1

Agree 100%. We on this subreddit need to find a way to advocate for males, under our actual names, but "coming out completely" would lead a lot of us to be discredited and stigmatized because of false beliefs people hold about MRAs. I would like to see this subreddit provide more advice on how people can bring at least some advocacy into their real lives. We have to start somewhere.

These are excellent ideas, extending the idea of advocating at the intersection of groups. Ie, men who are also members of a sympathetic group. Veterans and disabled men are good candidates, in addition to boys. But, in this context, I don't think you need to worry about "being called a creep for being so interested in boys." If you post on social media a story about, eg, boys' poor educational attainment, and someone calls you a perv, I don't think that accusation will have much traction among …

I applaud your courage in expressing your beliefs, despite the social opprobrium doing so has apparently wrought. Your seeming despair is understandable--but hopefully isn't permanent. When I talk about a "graceful" way for people to start voicing men's-rights issues under their own name, I am looking for a prescription for doing so without the backlash you seem to have experienced. I think that advocacy for boys is an entry point. Yes, it falls short of advocating for all the important issues, …

Tell him that you wish he would stop using the term, despite its current prevalence (along with other anti-male terms like mansplain, etc.), because it is distracting and divisive, not to mention offensive. He should assume that no group (certainly not a genetically defined one) is made up people who were simply born bad. That leads to a discussion of what factors in individuals' lives drive them to destructive behavior. This is more productive--although it does mean opening one's eyes to the fa…

Agreed, its troubling. Incarcerated women make up a tiny minority, and yet they already receive greatly disproportionate services. Women are rehabilitated, while men are abandoned. And Hillary wants to worsen the disparity!? Politically it's a good move, playing in to the fact that society cares more about women than men. The Obama administration has been horrible on this issue, most infamously in the "Dear Colleague" letter issued by the Department of Education in 2011 and directing colleges to adopt unfair, draconian procedures for sexual misconduct accusations, under a radical interpretation of Title IX that has no support in legislative history or caselaw. Hillary has been under fire from the left for going after the women who accused Bill. It was a combination of 4 factors: (1) inconsistencies about their accounts of what happened (mostly as to the first complainant); (2) their behavior after the alleged assaults (having further sexual involvement and trying to continue romantic relationships with him); (3) concealing these later actions from the police and investigators; and (4) appearing to collude with each other to design a set of stories that would ensure his conviction. It is no problem to get a jury to convict under these circumstances, by emphasizing that they have only one narrow factual question to consider. For all they jury knows, the girl is being separately charged, which will be heard by a separate jury. Don't fall for the feminist bait and switch! The bait: "Feminism is belief in equality of the sexes." But once you're on-board it switches to: "Society and history can only be understood as a struggle between evil male oppressors and sweet female victims, obliging us to undertake all measures now to lift up women and diminish men." Everyone agrees with the bait definition, so a feminist who feels attacked will assert that is definition. But society is fair enough now that if a feminist wants to …

5% seems low to me. Do you have a source for that number. As I understand it, Constitution initially left voting rights to be determined by the states. It was not uniform, but generally initially restricted to white men who owned property. The property requirement was gradually dropped, and by the election of 1840 more than 90% of white men could vote. [1] In 1870, the 15th amendment eliminated (at least on paper) voting restrictions based on race. [2] The 19th amendment granted women the right …

One bright spot in the survey results is the publishing industry’s gender composition, which leans heavily away from men/cis men and toward women/cis women (again, the overall number is 78%). . . . And the numbers, though still strong, dip in the executive category, which is 40% male. Just a bit more pushing for diversity and the end of female oppression, and we should be able to eliminate men entirely.

Presents pretty compelling evidence that women don't get as much credit when they co-author a paper as men do. One wonders what else may be going on to explain the result in a more gender-neutral way, but the finding convinces me that there is at least some aspect of anti-woman assumption occurring. Some skepticism is warranted because (1) if the result had shown pro-woman discrimination, it likely would not have seen the light of day, and (2) it is questionable whether gender-neutral explanatio…

Tragic how the media pushes the men-are-evil agenda. Some high points: Where d[o men] learn about sexual consent? MRAs will quite often use arguments about innate sex differences with feminists (e.g. women's brains are hard-wired for empathy and not systems, hence why more men than women pick STEM subjects) I think it is more accurate to say that MRAs challenge the idea that employment/educational discrimination is the reason so few women are in STEM. Men face more earning pressure and choose careers that will be able to support a family--so they opt for high-paying fields like STEM. Women don't expect to b…

I submit that conjectures about innate tendencies are a harmful distraction because the sex differences relevant to modern life are too slight to be of predictive use, and inevitably become gender-war footballs. Undoubtedly, sex differences exist. Physical differences are clear: something like 95% of men can throw a ball farther than 50% of women. There is also research to support the existence of mental sex differences, but these are much, much smaller. E.g., a hypothetical study may indicate t…

Female heroes are not the problem, but they can be a reminder of how imbalanced the discussion of gender in stories has been. I disagree. When an old series gets re-imagined with a new twist, it usually breathes new life into it. Think of the way the new Batman series threw away its commitment to the old and became new and fresh, or how welcome the tonal change was when Daniel Craig became James Bond. Not about race, as much as gender. The article's charts show that girls do better than boys both among the "mixed" race category, and within each racial subcategory. Would have been nice if the author tied this data to the research showing that early childhood education is slanted against boys. But at least this one is better than the recent New York Times article, which noted that poor boys perform worse than girls, and then proceeded to hypothesize various inborn male deficiencies.

It didn't start in a neutral way. Numerous gender-biased factors removed men from homes: the family law system; career pressures; incarceration; etc. These factors reflect some of the same biases hurting todays boys, just extended forward into adulthood (and backward to the childhoods of todays men). But male-specific obstacles are often what led the men to be removed from the households. E.g., incarceration and a biased family law system. These reflect the same biases held against the boys (and, indeed, against the men when they were boys), just extended into adulthood: the belief the males are dangerous troublemakers, and are not positive and nurturing. So it isn't useful to say that lack of male role models causes the boys' problems. In fact, the same causes lead to bad outcomes both for …

Proponents of the lack-of-male-role-model explanation would say that it is not as important to the development of a female. Their goal: "It's rape if she says it is." Affirmative consent is a tool to accomplish that by making every man guilty. As the article discusses, female-perpetrated sexual assaults are treated as no big deal. This phenomenon reveals how the current mania over sexual assault taps into sexist notions of purity and defilement. Men are considered unclean, while women aren't. The real issue is that feminists tend to declare a theories that are convenient to the position true (and anyone who doubts them monsters) based on extremely scant/skewed evidence. The essay has good points, but the section on male/female differences in social focus asks this weak (and probably arguable) disparity to do too much heavy lifting. And don't forget the definitional bait-and-switch. A: "Feminism means believing men and women are equal. Are you a feminist?" B: "I believe men and women are equal, so I'll agree that I'm a feminist." A: "Great, so you must also agree that if a man and women have sex while both drunk, the man is a rapist. Because to believe otherwise would be anti-feminist." This linguistic "strategic equivocation" is well explained at http://slatestarcodex.com/2014/07/07/social-justice-and-words-words-words/.

Amazing that the media talks about Dunham's encounter as a rape! In her book "Not that Kind of Girl," she describes the event, which took place between her and a male student at her college: She is leaving a party with Barry (her "assailant") when a friend asks her if she really wants to go home with him. She clearly tells her friend that she does, "Just leave me alone." She takes Barry back to her place. He had not previously known where she lived. She gets a condom and gives it to him. "The co…

We are living in a very frustrating current moment for the movement, but that doesn't mean it will always be this way. We just need to keep advancing the argument.

No, I'm saying that the John Edwards case was only relevant because it involved concealment of an actual child.

"the issue here is the media coverage of Sulkowicz after her accusations were proven false." So true! The accused in this case was fortunate to have incredibly persuasive evidence (through social media posts) that he was innocent, but that didn't really change the coverage. Innocence is no defense when all the media focuses on is the theatre of "victimhood."

This graph is a great metaphor for feminists' "no thoughts allowed but ours" mentality.

Media reports: Women inconvenienced by the fact that men are failing. But should we instead focus on the fact that society is failing men, and how to fix it? Why are male problems only visible for the collateral effects they have on women? You see this constantly: College-educated women can't find husbands of equal education -- because men aren't graduating from college ; African American mothers struggling -- because the father are in jail, dead, or discriminated against by employers. The media…

Not fair to slay this guy for misunderstanding social media venues. On Facebook, the comment would be appropriate; on LinkedIn, it is a faux pas. Either way, it is not offensive.

Welcome to the dark side. I've been through a similar journey (many of us in this community have). It is painful to commit to a movement that you think is righteous (and has historic, worthy accomplishments to its credit), and realize that the movement, as currently constituted, is so flawed as to be indefensible. Decades ago, there was a time for feminism, but now it is time for egalitarianism.

Standard storyline: damsel in distress, male hero saves her. Feminists focus on female helplessness and male power. More accurately, it is about female value--the damsel is so precious that all steps must be taken to save her, including risk to life and limb (see, e.g., Helen of Troy). The reason you don't see the roles reversed is not that audiences don't like female heroes, its that they don't think a helpless man is worth saving.

Safer to keep your mouth shut than buy into the modern equation: (1) man says something, (2) woman decides whether he is an offensive scumbag that all society should shun, (3) anyone who questions her conclusion is automatically also deemed a scumbag. It amazes me how women act like receiving frequent admiration is ENTIRELY a bad thing. Oh, I get it that could be oppressive and frustrating when your attractiveness gets noticed in contexts you would prefer it weren't, but I wish women understood …

Get out of here with this garbage. True or false, her sex life is none of our business. Not the same as John Edwards' hidden child.

Because the feminist debating style is to attack the person, not the argument.

Even if women engage in non-reciprocal violence more than men (the 70% number), those acts tend to be lower severity than what men do to women. That is why the study also finds that "men were more likely to inflict injury than were women."

Why does the media see women's strengths as innate, but men's strengths as signs of privilege (oppression of women)? If the article's premise is true that men fall short in the people-skills department, then the article should look for a cause, in the same way the media seeks explanations why women don't succeed in STEM. (You won't see the headline, "Good News for Men: High Demand for Math and Science Jobs." In that case, the story would address measures to propel more women into those careers.)…

Not trying to be a hater, but the Red Pill guys tend to sound like junior high schoolers telling stories in the locker room about how they've already had sex. On the other hand, at least they advocate a life strategy for dealing with the male conundrum.

Agreed. You are right to be upset by the school's rule. While the college is right that intoxicated women need more protection from coercive sex than intoxicated men do, it is impossible to define a perfect standard for these cases. Unfortunately, the current practice is, when in doubt, to shift more responsibility, risk, and stigma towards men. The cost of hurting men is simply not recognized.

Those statistics don't sound credible to me. And they contradict what is found here, http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/nisvs_sofindings.pdf, which paints of picture of intimate partner violence predominately involving female victims. Just to pick out a couple stats, the "lifetime prevalence of rape, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner was" 35% for heterosexual women vs 29% for heterosexual men. Contrary to our cultural assumptions, men make up a significant minority …

What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. The same movement that wanted a punitive and broad law to attack discrimination forty years ago is now appalled to see it used against discrimination they actually support. Also, a contradiction in the article. Hoffman, who is quoted favorably throughout, says that the men's rights group's MO is to "track and bait and relentlessly ask to be invited until they get a ‘no,’ so they can bring a suit." (Which would be pretty lame.) But that doesn't …
