In Australia organisations can obtain exemptions from discrimination legislation for certain reasons, one of which I believe is Sex discrimination for the purposes of furthering equality. It is perfectly legal. Another example of an exemption from discrimination laws (i can’t remember if it was furthering equality or something else) is a Gay bar in Melbourne called the Peel that sought and received the right to exclude females from its premises.
