Go and take a look through the Instagram hashtags for those towns - full of young men and women wearing what they like, drinking, and having fun. If you want to live your life being paranoid and afraid of people because they have a different religion to you, that’s your loss. I’ve been all around Germany in various states of intoxication and undress. Where I live, in London, there are plenty of racists on the Internet telling me that there are ‘no go zones’ where I can’t walk around, drink or ha…

It is absolutely not true that you can't walk the streets of Germany in a summer dress or go to a pool.

Haha, ok, so you just searched ‘how made modern internet’ and up popped Robert Kahn and you thought ‘got her’! Ada Lovelace worked on the computer which was invented by Charles Babbage in the 19th Century. Do you think macs just popped up fully formed in the 80s? I’m thrilled that women’s contributions to science and technology are being recognised by society at large. It’s only going to keep happening more and more, so enjoy being angry and bitter about it!

How is it a lie? Ada Lovelace worked on the first ever computer, she published the first computer algorithm. She is almost certainly the first ever computer programmer. No one person invented the internet as we know it. The internet wouldn’t exist in its current guise without the work of Robert E Kahn, Tim Berners Lee, Radia Perlman and Grace Hopper. Hedy (not Hady) Lamarr invented frequency hopping which led to the technologies of Bluetooth and WiFi. ‘Nazi Germany’ didn’t exist in the 1920s. Th…

Charles Babbage invented the first computer, he worked with the first ever computer programmer - Ada Lovelace. The foundation for the modern Internet was constructed at ARPANET and DECnet. The principal designer at DECnet was Radia Perlman, often called ‘the Mother of the internet’

Actually, it was a woman who first developed the technology that lead to WiFi.

I work in advertising. I've been at the same company for six years and was getting massively itchy feet - coupled with the fact there was nowhere for me to move up in my current department. So I just got a new job! Signed the contract today :D I'm going to work at an agency, which will be much more work than my current in-house role (for not that much more money..) but hopefully will give me the opportunity to move up. I need to take these opportunities while we live in a world city!

You're not being ignored - you're being disagreed with. If you ask for advice, sometimes it's not going to be what you want to hear. There are 190 comments in this thread, and I can't find what that isn't considerate or well-intentioned. 190 comments, focused on trying to help you, is not being ignored. I'm sorry this has made you feel stressed.

My opinion is based on your description of your relationship and each one of your replies in this thread - which have all given me a horrible sinking feeling. You want to hear supportive comments and advice on how to leave the country to somewhere your rights are written away by law, or sign away your rights to your own child in order to have babies with this man - I hear your ideas and thoughts, I hear them loud and clear. I can't tell you they are good ideas or thoughts though because they are…

I'm sorry that's how you feel. My opinion is based on concern for you, not because I'm some unthinking woman. I really hope your situation works out well for you, I just don't think you're appreciating how precarious it is. If your relationship ends, he has his job, he has his house, he has the foster children you both care for - he potentially has your biological child wholly to himself. What do you have? What do you walk away from this relationship with? At least you'll have some money, but yo…

That's what have happened to many men in my country. . Forget men at large -we're talking about you and your situation. At which time I'd want him to have the power to protect my child from me. I find it so hard to believe you truly think you would ever be a danger to your own child, to the point where anyone else on the planet should be allowed to take them away from you and never see them again, with no hope of reunification. You are clearly a thoughtful and educated person who loves children …

You said in another comment that you would be willing to sign away rights to his child. You think it's balance that if your relationship ended in that situation, he could walk away with your child, with no legal recourse for you to even see your child again?

I don’t have a point of view on whether marriage is bad or good for men. What I do see is your boyfriend being not willing to put himself in a situation that he’s more than willing to put YOU in. You are putting yourself in the situation that you think is unacceptable for men to put themselves in. Taking your boyfriend’s POV at face value - why, if it is so unconscionable for him to be in that situation, is it alright to him that by his actions you are in that situation instead? You could have a…

It's my money. That is a relief. I hope for your sake, you start protecting your own interests as fiercely as he is protecting his. You are making yourself so incredibly vulnerable. Someone else in this thread has told you you can sign away rights to your own child so he can 'protect himself'. Not only is that extremely irresponsible (what if he died?) - not in a million years is that going to be allowed to happen. I just hope you recognise that you're not responsible for all of the ills your bo…

it sounds like the person who is buying them has nothing else to offer in his life and is scared of real conversation so has to distract with alcohol. Jesus, judgemental much? Sounds like you’re the kind of person who has nothing else to offer in their life than looking down on other people

She conflates the traditional family and values What traditional family values do you see in Gilead? I don't see your point. Gilead is a dystopian society, are you saying it has redeeming features? Also Qatar and Kuwait are weird examples to chose. Kuwait in particular.

It's actually not a cariacature, Atwood made certain that everything that happens to women in the book has actually happened to women at some point in the world. It's less dystopian than you think.

I buy pre chopped frozen garlic, onions, herbs and spices. It's £1 for a big bag of chopped onions that lasts me nearly a month, and 1.75 for garlic, chillies, ginger and different herbs which each last me at least a month or two. I know it's supremely lazy but I find I'm more likely to actually cook if a lot of the boring prep work is done for me. It's more expensive than just doing it yourself, but I think the extra expense is so minimal and I also don't waste anything! I used to throw out loa…

Luckily my boyfriend is incredibly easy to buy for, I have a constant list of ideas for him in my mind. This year we're going to do Januarymas and have our own little Christmas on January 25th as he's coming with me on a cruise to NY with my parents right before Christmas and that's draining our bank account! He's going to get a fancy overnight bag as his new job has him travelling for business a lot. I know he's going to love it, I can't wait to give it to him! He is great at giving presents, t…

If you're in a major city, the WI is actually quite young nowadays! I'm in East London, and my local chapter is exclusively 20-somethings!
