Pregnancy is going to have surprises. The pill, in theory is 99% effective, however this requires it being taken meticulously and on schedule. As a result it's about 91% effective, which means 9% of those taking the pill end up pregnant over the course of a year. Considering that around 65% of women are on the pill at any given time, that's a lot of non-reproductive sex that happens, and a lot of babies getting born despite such precautions. People do have sex like crazy. That's why there's billions of people. Women just have more at stake because they can't just walk away from the unsurprising potential outcome of a pregnancy. There's physical risk, potential physical damage, a significant period of general incapacitation and in many cases economic viability risks during that period as well. Essentially, it's a higher risk proposition for a female on many levels, and that's hard wired in to their mating strategies due to evolution.…
