I have very little contact with family too, and I live in another country, been alone most of the time except when I find good friends on the way. What has worked for me is reading a lot about knowing myself and healing my inner child. Also found out about codependency in this sub, which has matched a lot of traits that I've had. Basically, there is no right answer for each person, but it is within learning to know yourself the best way you see fit: therapy, spirituality, education, etc.

Born and raised in a developing country myself. Poor does not mean unsafe :)

This. And I'd add travel. Not to resorts, but on a shoestring, meet different people, go to poor places, see the world - i think it's the best life experience that teaches you a bunch of things altogether.

Yep, this was me. And thanks to this sub I think I finally found the answer to the WHYs I kept asking myself: codependency due to childhood emotional neglect. Not easy but liberating. Also to understand and let go of the blame of picking up trash.

We call it "leftist macho" where I'm from. They wear the progressist "male feminist" mask just to get women.

The mental image I made of this guy was because of a gay guy friend that once said "keep this pussy away from me, argh", with a disgust face XD

I didn't. It just seems he doesn't like women.

He's gay.

Too many bad experiences of a variety of types, let's say one per year. I'm always learning something new but I'm also fucking tired of wasting time, money and heart.

I know so many cases... I used to work in an engineering company where guys were predominant, most of them not single, but they were cheating all over. One of them had a pregnant wife and kept hitting on me and even spreading lies that we kissed once (delusional). Another one had a forever gf that was super jealous of him because obviously he was flirting and trying with other ladies. The other married guy was cheating with an also married LVW from HR, but his wife was jealous of me just because…

Don't be so hard on yourself, it's all a learning process and it takes time and practice 😘.

One ex brought me to his house and said he wanted me to see who he was for real, so he didn't clean beforehand, but clearly he didn't clean like never. Pickme me eventually started cleaning: first the desk I wanted to use, since it had 1cm of dust on it, then vacuuming cause I can't stand getting stuff stuck on my feet (I'm always barefooted), throwing away food that expired 5 years before... Geez. Let alone guys with empty packages/bottles/trash that they don't get rid of. It just means they ar…

I'm hopeless. I've learned too much about their scrotery and psychopathic traits and I get disgusted easily. Or they are just dead inside. 🤷

I fell for one exactly like that. Using his child whose "crazy" mother was being mean and didn't let him see her blabla, sharing this sad story from day one. And that this guy at his work was trying to get him fired "with no reason". He was basically a fake, manipulative psychopath who just pretended pretty much everything and needed women to hang on psychologically and financially. It took me 3 months to figure him out and leave, but a lot of damage in the short time too. I had never thought I'…

I'm older and I don't hold a Ph.D. (yet), but I'm pretty sure the men I've met are either scared of me or clueless of how smart I am (because they're men, they know better) so they think they stand a chance (when they don't, due to too many issues). I think I'll be alone forever - I'd be fine with cats.

A Ph.D. is like a job in some (or most?) European countries/unis. One gets a real salary and all benefits.

Thanks for this. Although I live in Europe and things are different here, I just felt very bad after an experience with a guy lately. When I confronted him about the money jokes, he basically said I was "angry" and that it was really weird that he paid for everything - when I genuinely thought he was being a gentleman hahaha - also, I had food and drinks at home, since going out where I live is really crazy-expensive. He does have a good job, a car, goes skiing etc. The only other person who rub…

I was very direct and he responded with some gaslighting. I guess we're not gonna talk again.

Yes, he literally said, in other words, that he is cheap and asked if I didn't think it was weird that he paid for everything.

Yes, I was silent so he asked if I was angry and I said I didn't like the money "jokes" and then the insistent sexting when he knew I had friends over. He answered he did not like that he paid for everything indeed.

No, mine is and I'm used to very macho men behavior. I did expect better from the little I know him, but I guess not. We haven't chatted since the weekend, not sure what's gonna happen. I'm just silent and not giving any explanation.

So I've been lurking here for a couple of months now, and still learning and adapting strategies to my reality (long time pickme experience with fuckboys, narcissists and psychos, late 30's but look much younger, live in Europe but I'm not from here, still working on confidence & self-esteem). I deleted my latest attempt of OLD and said to myself this year would be studies/career-minded. Then, of course, I met a guy during my new year's vacation trip (I was with a woman friend) in a tropical, is…

Yes! This post is very important. I'm going through this phase of the first weeks of contact with what seems to be a HVM, but due to past shitty experiences I could be easily impressed by his lovely everything - which I am, but I can't let it blur my judgment to identify possible red flags.

If anyone is curious about dating in Norway (I guess it applies to Scandinavia/Norden), it's well explained here (I can't even) https://www.thesocialguidebook.no/blogs/norwegian-culture/dating-in-norway-2019. And from what I've seen, the women take initiative most the time. The handsome guys just stand there and get approached.

I'm Brazilian, and I think most Br guys suck, and the macho culture is just terrible. I agree with most of your points - I suppose the dinner date is a US/Canada thing, maybe UK? I live in Europe now, and here no guy will take you out to dinner on dates either. Br guys are spoiled mommy's boys, so yes, they will stay with mommy to save some cash, and so he can abuse her for domestic work. I have a friend in his 30's who would gather his dirty laundry of the week and take up to his mom on the wee…
