My main concern would be that the course is probably just ideological nonsense and unlikely to change behaviour more than making them sit down and listen to someone read the dictionary for an hour until they promise not to do it again You spent an awful lot of paragraphs saying basically this over and over again. Do you know what's in the course? Do you know it's bad, or if it's good? It sounds like you're just speculating. They do not actually care about eliminating catcalling. This is a wild a…

OP revealed in another post that he moved right before year-end, from a lower-tax province to a higher-tax province, which changed his tax rate for the entire year. There's not a lot he can do but he can set up a payment plan with CRA so he doesn't get screwed all at once.

Interesting, over on /r/GenderCritical they have been upset lately that women's washrooms are getting converted while the mens are being left alone. Maybe we should just be fair and convert all of them, or add a single-stall universal washroom and leave the existing ones alone.

Strongly agree with all points. "Forced birth" is essentially slavery. If it was clear that she didn't want a child before sex, but birth control happened to fail, there is no real difference (IMO) between aborting an embryo shortly after fertilization vs. fertilization never having happened to begin with. A child was not wanted, so it is aborted. In the end, the only way to really resolve serious dilemmas such as this is to have a legal agreement drawn up - call it a "pre-coital agreement", if …

I believe gender roles used to be useful. Definitely - and they still are -- but the roles people take in society should be voluntary rather than forced. e.g. There studies that show that having children raised in a two-parent household can be better than one, especially if one parent stays home full time for a few years, but there's no reason why this parent has to be the mother if it works better to do it another way.

This shows how feminism isn't real science. When presented with surprising results, real scientists go "hmm, that's interesting" and then attempt to find a new hypothesis that explains the findings. Social scientists bury the results or lie about them.

The first and second wave feminism movements were about equality and were justified for it. Sort of. There were still evil feminists in the first and second waves. e.g. look up the White Feather Movement, which bullied men into going to war. Any man wearing civilian clothes, even if he was in the service, was fair game to be targeted. Were these women also campaigning to allow women to serve? Most of them were not.

Canadian here. I broke up with a guy after we had lived together for a few years. We had bought a condo together, so I needed a formal "separation agreement" to make it easier to take my name off the title and have him buy me out of my half. A friend of a friend was a divorce lawyer so I went to her for help in getting the paperwork together. She strongly advised me to sue him for everything he was worth "because I deserved a lot more". I backed out of there hastily, with separation agreement in…

Since when do dentists not get medical degrees? It's a bit of a specialty and they cover different things, but since my dentist can perform surgery on me I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's ok to call him "Dr.". I'll be honest -- it took me a while to figure this out. If feminists really want to help women, they would help them learn the skills that too often they didn't learn from their parents -- that girls can grow up to be fully-functioning adults that are self-reliant and don't need to cry for help all the time. There is more to life than being a princess, and it's much easier to adapt onself to deal with the world than to try to change the world to adapt to you.

Plenty of women I speak to constantly complain of being discouraged to go in STEM I'm a woman in STEM (and very successful at it). If they want more women in the armed forces, then they should put more effort in the schooling system to getting girls not just fit but pumped. They might be able to eke out a few more percent that way by getting girls into fitness before they discover creme buns. Lowering the fitness requirements is just sad. A more likely explanation is that this woman was being irrational. She still cares about his overt displays of wealth even though she's capable of providing for herself. It's instinct. Women look for providers; someone who doesn't look like a provider doesn't look like a good mate. Women need to wake up from their primitive instincts and use their brains to logic themselves out of this conundrum.

I was never encouraged to marry rich (except by old fogies in my parents' church who thought I should go to the church's college to get an M.R.S. degree). The wage gap exists because women have it pretty good. Ironically, this is because of lingering sexist attitudes. Girls growing up are not encouraged to enter into heavy-labour trades, and boys are. Women are not expected to go to war when their country needs them, and men are. There is still a pervasive cultural attitude that girls are more special and we should not be risking them. Evolutionarily this is actually sane, but we have plenty enough women to keep population at replacement levels an…

Women achieved equality in most ways in the western world quite a while ago, but since the world didn't turn into a wonderful fairy land of ponies and rainbows, the goalposts needed to be shifted again. It's a problem of not seeing the forest for the trees -- life always sucks in some way for everyone, and there are always some people who are really having a hard time. In my area, pretty much any 911 call will be answered by the fire department as well as police or ambulance. That is, if you make a 911 call and request an ambulance, the fire department will also respond because they have trained medics and can often get there faster (as there are neighbourhood fire departments scattered throughout the city, but fewer and more centralized ambulance dispatches). I guess at this point I almost feel grateful that men got any sort of mention at all, but you're right, they keep coming back to compare statistics to women, and in a strange way that makes it look like men aren't being hurt, when the numbers clearly show that they are, but simply aren't reporting to the police in equal numbers. No attention is paid to why that might be, or how we can make it so men get taken more seriously by police.

But try to remember that not all women are like that, just like all men aren't like that. But the problem is that the prevalent attitude in society is that it's okay for a woman to be like that, and NOT OKAY for a man to be like that. And anyone who says otherwise is not a real man. Women are taught that it's okay to hit. This is toxic femininity.

But the pay gap issue is "a female janitor makes $0.77 for every $1.00 a male janitor makes." Only if you don't correct for the total number of hours worked, and for experience. It's the same one used to justify thing like "there's no racial pay gap, if there was employers would only hire black workers!" Right -- the reason why this is not seen in reality is because some company owners actually do think that black workers are not as good workers. There is perceived to be a gender pay gap because the belief is that women are just as valuable workers as men, but they are not being perceived as such by the marketplace. So here's my message to my two teenage kids and all their friends, high school and college students. Do what you like and what you do great, love your job and excel in it. It doesn't matter if you're surrounded by your own or opposite gender. Don't get lured into something you don't like or enjoy just because somebody decided there's a gap and it has to be closed. Nailed it.

It's funny -- I was just saying to one of the big women's subs that /r/MensRights has been a more respectful place than their sub or the other pro-feminist one that recently started up. The issue discussed in this article is legitimate. Women supporting each other in the workplace to make sure that they are not sidelined and their ideas are not stolen is a good one. We should all support all of our coworkers, men and women alike, to make sure that good ideas are heard and that someone else isn't…

Films with strong female leads will start doing well at the box office as soon as they get off the "women good, men bad" trope and start creating good plots with good effects and good acting. If you want to see successful examples of strong female leads, pretty much anything done by Joss Whedon is worth looking at. Did Zoe in "Firefly" harp about how she hated men? No, she just knew how to handle her gun and kicked ass when it needed kicking, thank you very much. Did Kaylee stop to give speeches…

I was going to say "to be fair", but it isn't fair. But nonetheless -- many girls are indeed taught this by overly-cautious parents. "Don't dress like that, someone might rape you." "Don't act like that, someone might think you are a whore." etc etc. We need to stop raising little girls to think they are princesses that are the object of all men's desires. Most girls would do far better in life if they believed they were ordinary.

It's the first time in these young millennials' lives where they have to cope with environments that aren't carefully constructed for them, and filled with a lot of people that aren't all like them. This is why (IMHO) they are flipping their biscuit with things like BLM and crying oppression when professors ask them to challenge their preconceived notions of the world.

If feminism focused less on whining about men pushing them down, and focused more on helping women get over their anxieties and deal properly with the real world, I might actually start supporting them!
/r/TheRedPill30/06/16 09:04 PM
14

This would also explain why women who have actually made something out of their lives have no patience for the rest of women, and want nothing to do with the feminists that want women to be coddled -- they realize that in order to get somewhere, you have to work hard, rather than beg for it to be handed to you.

/r/TheRedPill30/06/16 08:52 PM

Close.. I think it's more like women don't get as much fair criticism and feedback growing up, so they have less of a sense of where they need to improve -- they get more points just for showing up. However, this gender difference might be disappearing now since all kids seem to be coddled the same way now, and when they hit university it's the first time having to deal with the real world.

Absolutely. No woman who truly wants children ever need go without, whether by pregnancy or adoption. This article is really about something else that is never stated -- finding a man they can push around? Or a man that they can hold up to their friends as a trophy, proof that they have "won"? I wonder how many men are out there that want to have children but can't. They can't get pregnant, and many jurisdictions won't adopt a child to a single man.

This is almost certainly correct. The number of (wealthy) people who actually manage their own money, as opposed to turning it over to accountants, is quite slim. It's unbelievable. She belongs to a small group of people who are more privileged than probably any group in the history of mankind, but because of feminism she still feels oppressed. What?! She very specifically said she wasn't blaming anyone except herself, because she failed to negotiate.

Theres nothing in there where she said SHE paid for them to go out, or SHE paid for them to go on a vacation, etc - she just bitched and pouted the entire time. If she had showed her man she was willing to work more hours at work, wear cheaper clothes, etc, and then use that money on him - he may have stepped in, revealed the truth, and took over paying from there, after she proved herself. She didnt. This is the key. She could have presented more strongly "I would like to do these things, and I…

They aren't obvlivious of the shame, they are very aware of it. But if for every insult they get 10 empty "your body is okay," it helps them not kill themselves, even if they know deep down it's a lie. Yes, but is it helping them eat properly and get exercise? Apparently not. What do you think they need so they take action, if insults aren't working?

That's not RP truth, that's simply discovering asynchronicity. We take that for granted now because so much of our communication is asynchronous, but back then it would have been quite peculiar even to contemplate, let alone realizing that it was possible.

I actually feel satisfaction achieving something great with my fellow man rather than wallowing in the struggles. YES, sharing successes is far more important than sharing tragedies. I can mope about my trials and troubles in life on my own, over a beer; there's nothing to be gained by having a pity party about it with my friends (or even relaying it to a therapist).

You'll find a lot of them (men and women both) on the subreddit "childfree". There are many sad tales of one side lying to the other about wanting kids until locking the relationship down. Being honest about not wanting kids is a good thing, not a sign of a psycho. It's lying about it that's the bad thing.
/r/TheRedPill08/08/15 11:37 PM

It depends on the motives behind sharing the story. Are you doing it as "woe is me, my life is hard, I want you to feel sorry for me"?, or "here's what I've learned, I hope it helps you too"? Bro companionship should not be a pity party - it should be a way to build each other up and find strength.

I personally believe estrogen levels are key to how much a woman fits with Red Pill theory. The hot, estrogen fertile chicks, it's essentially 100% unless brainwashed by religion. For tom boys and closeted lesbians/bi ladies, Red Pill doesn't work on them as much. This is a very interesting theory. Concidentally, I've never used hormonal birth control. And I find it very difficult to get along with most women too -- they are by far more nasty in the workplace than men.

Case in point: porn. Women are failing to compete with pictures of themselves. That's right - when women feel threatened by porn, they are threatened by their own image. Why? Because porn does not passively-aggressively say no, and that is the basis of female power. No, usually it's that porn contains women (and men!) that embody an unrealistically achievable perfection of body. Even the most attractive person gets saggy bits by the time they're 40, and can't look as good as anyone in porn. Dumb…

That's a pretty normal behaviour, psychologically speaking -- it's easier to whine about not having something than to work hard to earn it. Once we’re considering gender-tragic dates to commemorate, mark Feb. 25, 2014 in your calendar. That was the day Boko Haram attacked a boarding school and killed about 50 children aged 11-18, some gunned down when they attempted to flee, some with their throats slit, and others burned alive in locked buildings. No cause for alarm, though. They were only boys. Nailed it.

I'm a contributor to a number of open source projects, and when I'm active in these codebases, I see the commits from everyone else who is active, and 99% of the time a real name (not a pseudonym) is attached to it. And everyone gets credit in the changelog - "Anna Smith - fixed bug #12345 - problem with the furbinator interacting with the frobnitz"; "John Doe - new whargarbl feature". Additionally, there are a lot of programming blogs, of which almost all …

"privelege" is a dumb word that is way overused by feminists. However, many of the points made were good ones. It would be better if each point was linked to a specific example where the behaviour described actually happened, though. I've certainly experienced some of them myself.

Perhaps not, but it is a perfectly valid option. I usually stay anonymous too, and use a picture of my (now-deceased) cat as my avatar, so as to avoid the potential for sexism. I stay anonymous because I prefer it that way. In university I adopted a false male name which worked with my userid (first initial + last name) to avoid "tits or gtfo" comments in technical forums. It's not quite as bad now, but I still draw attention for my gender in situations where I'd rather not. men who only take a …

Should women have to stay anonymous to be treated as equals?
/r/MensRights18/09/11 04:40 PM

It's not that women need to be represented equally in all professions (well, lots of feminists believe that, but I don't see that stated in the original post) -- it's simply that those that are represented should be treated with respect as equals, letting their work be more important than their gender.

Most names are gendered. If you saw a contribution from Jane Doe or Anna Smith, would you: a) think they are 99% probability female, b) assume they are male because most programmers are male, or c) not make any assumptions because you haven't met them/seen a photograph? Can anyone realistically say they wouldn't pick a)?

How do you know that, had you been indoctrinated - from a very young age - into thinking that in order to like these things you liked you had to be male, you would not have felt that desire? I don't really know. However, do you think that is what is at work here with people with GD? Let's look at something similar which we have a lot more societal experience with - sexual orientation. Most people who come out as gay (or to a lesser extent, bi) state that they always felt the way they do, and fam…

Like this bit: Transsexualism, by its nature, promotes the idea that it is "natural" for boys to play with guns and girls to play with Barbie dolls. The idea that gender roles are biologically determined rather than socially constructed is the antithesis of feminism. Gender dysphoria is very different than a boy displaying effeminate behaviour or a girl being masculine. It is about the very body you are in not being right. I am female, and have very few feminine cultural characteristics; I am in…

we'd see no more success ending racism by preventing people from naming races But we do see success there. Children in the generation after us have shown that they are much more colour-blind than we ever thought possible (depending on where you happen to live of course). Skin colour is becoming just another inconsequential (read: does not dictate your path in life) physical trait, like hair colour and handedness.

He's saying that the original statement ("gender is gender; get over it") doesn't really carry much meaning. There is no compelling reason to segregate based on sex other than this is the way we've always done it, and indeed we have been discovering that there are far fewer biological reasons to segregate than we ever did. Is this subreddit not about ensuring that everyone, regardless of sex, is treated equally and has equal rights? You'd think people would be happy that little girls are not bei…

Downvoted until you explain why. Please contribute ideas, not kneejerk negativity. Definitely interesting, but I'm not so sure it's misguided. Language is one very big factor that carries over prejudice from generation to generation. The headline is also potentially misleading - I don't think they said they banned gendered pronouns outright, but just used a neuter form for non-player characters in stories. The mixing of activities and removal of old-fashioned fairy tales is also a nice move.

One thing is clear: de-incentivizing divorce with threats of time or money loss is a rights violation and is bad for women. Of course divorce is a disincentive, just as much as marriage is an incentive - because pooling assets makes the couple more well-off than they would have been separately. This is precisely why many people choose to co-habit.

"female privilege" sounds like an oxymoron, but it really isn't. Any historically-oppressed class can rise up to dominate its once-oppressors, and they can become more powerful because they feel that history justifies their acts. Part of what bothers me about alimony, and child support to a degree, is that it deems that the economic well-being of only one party--the non-custodial parent--should be damaged, in favor of keeping mother and child in the manner to which they'd become accustomed in the marriage. This seems to be intentionally punitive, with the assumption that the non-custodial parent is at fault for the divorce and therefore should be held financially responsible. On one hand, I'm fine if they do it, so long as they're up front about it. It's like r/Christianity deleting any posts from non-Christians - maybe they think this helps keep discussions on track. They should just declare this as part of the subreddit's policies, rather than purporting to respect equality. Why? Mother nature was too smart to waste reproductive potential on environmental testing. That implies intent. It's actually more to do with the fact that there are more women on average having children, but they all have fewer, than the same statistic for men. That is -- if a woman survives to childbearing age, she will usually have one, two, or three surviving children. A man can have a dozen children, or none at all, depending on his luck in life.

Looking at employment stats for an entire gender, 50% of the population, is so useless. How about instead comparing stats for people in a particular age bracket, with so many years of employment experience. I'm in my mid-30s now and we're not close, but friendlyish and at least civil. Give it time and space, and things will be what they will be.
