So which one of these parents would you rather be? https://np.reddit.com/r/tifu/s/DeaWTIfehl https://np.reddit.com/r/tifu/s/BMmMd8pTkb

Does this mean you think male teachers subscribing to adult content on OF is also none of parents' business? If teachers shouldn't be judged for producing adult content then surely they shouldn't be judged for consuming it either right?

I'm curious, is there any time in your life where you believe you could have leveraged your sexuality to obtain some tangible benefit if you wanted to?

What's not gender discrimination? I thought the whole reason you said banning only women from filming is illegal/immoral was that it's gender discrimination. For the record, I believe the answer to the relevant question is no. Gyms should not allow or prohibit filming based on gender. It's none of the gym's business whether someone's has an Onlyfans. But the corollary then is gyms should not allow or deny facility access based on gender either. Sure they might do it in the middle east, but they …

It's a good thing this is a public conversation because what you're doing here is painfully obvious. Gender discrimination is gender discrimination no matter what form it comes in. The examples we're talking about might come in different forms, but that's no reason to say one is ok while the other isn't. The relevant question here is "Is it ok for gyms to discriminate based on gender?" Claiming that "this kind of gender discrimination is ok but this other kind isn't" is just a slippery slope whi…

Having different rules for different genders is either ok or it isn't. So which is it?

I don't know if this is intentional, but you're clearly missing the point. A gym owner dictating which genders have to follow which rules is either immoral/illegal or it's not. If it is, then no gym should be dictating which genders can film and which can't. And they also shouldn't be dictating which genders have access at which times. If a gym enforcing different rules for different genders is fine, then it should be allowed to ban certain genders from filming, or accessing the gym at specific …

Gyms which have women-only hours are places where different genders follow different rules as well. Are you saying those are immoral/illegal too?

No, but I would be compelled to have one done if I ever needed should support. I wouldn’t ask my husband to do one just in case. The problem with this is that by the time you actually need child support, your ex may very well have taken off somewhere else and left you helpless. Do you think women would/should trust their partners/exes not to do that? As for your hypothetical, yes I do think it's fair for the father to be put on child support if the couple is unmarried. This would prevent the fat…

I specifically said this was a hypothetical. To my knowledge there's nowhere in the world where it's actually done this way. Just imagine for a second you lived in a place where the state doesn't enforce child support from your ex even if you were married at the time of childbirth, and even if his name is on the birth certificate. The only thing this hypothetical government looks for is a paternity test. If you lived in a place like that, would you want a paternity test done at the time of birth…

By "partner" I'm including married couples. Imagine if the state refuses to enforce child support without a paternity test even if the child was born within a marriage. Would you want a paternity test then?

Consider this hypothetical: Let's say you lived in a country where child support can only be enforced and collected if paternity has been established through a paternity test. In addition the test can only be done with the father's consent. In other words after you have a child with a man and he decides to abandon you for whatever reason you would have no option other than supporting the your child all on your own. Would you, as a woman, want a paternity test done with your partner and your chil…

Those aren’t really valid comparisons. It’s always reasonable for anyone to request a specific gender to deal with their body directly, but not so much when it’s just property. I say a male mechanic, plumber, or cashier has just as much right to be pissed if a woman asked for a female. I’m also pretty sure most would agree there’s nothing wrong with a man requesting a male barber, male tattoo artist, or male doctor. This is definitely has more to do with body vs property than male vs female. The…

The way to handle comments perceived to bog us down is by making comments of your own pointing it out and adding value. The ability of this sub to counter illogical and unproductive comments with good comments of its own is what separates it from the feminist subs that just ban and silence people who challenge them. I’m frankly pretty fed up with those antics and have no interest in lowering ourselves to that level.

Banning someone just for expressing a different view only demonstrates one’s inability to refute and discuss it. Let’s leave that to the feminists.

What throws a wrench into these kinds of issues is the fact that legislators are overwhelmingly men. In order for these issues to improve men have to be the ones to take a stand and fight against these double standards.

Who cares what other people think or expect? A woman who never treats her partner, brushes him off when he's down, and doesn't consider her partner a priority wouldn't be seen as a good partner either. Again, this isn't a gender-specific issue, and bad experiences shouldn't be generalized to an entire gender.

So there are people who take advantage of their partners and don't pull their weight in a relationship. Everyone knows that. There are people of both genders who do it and there's no reason to point the finger at women for it.

Not gonna lie, this is a pretty sexist take. A healthy relationship is an equal partnership. There is absolutely no general tendency for relationships to "center around women". In fact, traditionally men are considered the head of household. It's up to anyone in a relationship to assess its dynamic and determine whether they want to maintain or end the relationship. Your relationship can't center around the woman unless you let it. There are many areas where men get the short end of the stick bu…

Fair enough, the internet is the internet and we gotta live with it. It's just disappointing and frustrating when online spaces presented as places for open discussion are, in reality, places where anyone can be silenced for disagreeing with a particular group of people in power.

Yes that is a response to the same comment; you can tell because the last snippet of the original comment is in the image. How "minor" this annoyance is, is questionable. It's not appropriate for community moderators to silence, ban, and mute based on differences of opinion and the words used to express them when the community presents itself as a place for open discussion. Based on how often comments are removed for "derailing" there is no way I'm the first person to be hit by this. Bringing ge…

I thought that could be a possibility too, but that couldn't possibly be the only reason because the other thread I point out in that same message is this one, where other commenters discuss feminism as well, and even Men's rights, without any action taken. Even after pointing it out to the mods, that thread is still alive and well. What could be the explanation besides the mods selectively applying "derailing" to viewpoints they disagree with?

Fair enough I guess, although I do think insisting on keeping things to an excessively narrow scope hinders things quite a bit. In my particular case, do you agree with the mods’ subsequent response and gender based attacks in the DMs?

It’s also hard to make progress on issues when discussion about how it affects or is affected by other factors is prohibited.

Do you think shutting down a discussion for touching on related issues is productive? Societal issues are all interconnected with causes and solutions which all affect one another. If you wanted to talk about underfunding of DV hostels for women without children, would it benefit the discussion to shut down someone who pointed out that the issue is a symptom of DV hostels being underfunded in general? Should discussion about the harmful side-effects of a proposed solution in other areas be silen…

Do you think that feminist method of applying the derailing label is productive at all or do you think it only serves to stifle valuable discussion? What do you think of my comment and the moderators' response?

Here's a question for women I wasn't able to make a post about because it was off topic. In discussions about gender equality or feminism, what does "derailing" mean? When discussing gender equality, "derailing" happens a fair bit in my experience. To me, derailing happens when the subject of a discussion is abruptly changed without addressing a particular argument raised in an attempt to undermine the opposing side. In discussions about gender in particular, derailing often takes the form of so…

A post talking about the discussion of gender issues is off topic in a “neutral community to discuss sex, relationship, and gender issues”?
