I think the divine message is infact there (the Qur'an) and there is evidence which indicates its divine origin. Yes Humans have been used as Messengers and Prophets but that doesn't mean that the beliefs are man-made. Prophets and messengers were known to be in direct communion with God and part of the test of life is whether or not people want to recognise the validity of such people and the clear proofs which Allah has sent down.

It depends on what going on your own way means. Islam promotes the proper functioning of society and the community lifestyle including families and marriage with the right legislation and expectations between men and women. If a correctly implemented sharia law and lifestyle system was implemented in a country I feel quite confident you wouldn't even want to "go your own way".
