I totally relate to this. I’ve been trying to explore my spirituality for a while now, both in established religions and independently. There is just so much stuff that comes with it that makes me uncomfortable. And it’s often in direct contradiction to the philosophy being espoused.

People like that piss me off. The bible actually says that a man should pluck out his eyes rather than look with lust at a woman. It puts the onus on men to control themselves.

One time Ronan Farrow tweeted something like “happy father’s day or as we call it in my family “brother-in-law’s day”” Even if you could accept that Woody wasn’t technically Soon-Yi’s stepfather the two of them don’t live in a vacuum. He married his children’s sister. He tore their family apart.

I just... what? He makes it seem like Juno was lusting after him. She wasn’t. She was pissed at what he did to Jennifer Garner. She sided with Jennifer Garner. And all the weird stuff about how she wanted Bleecher to be more like him??? She didn’t want the baby. She didn’t want to be an adult yet. Why would she want Bleecher to act like an adult and try to play house with her? This is some weird projection shit.

There’s nothing wrong with being a custodian. My mom is an accountant and once told me that of everyone she worked with the person handling their money best was a custodian. Because he handled money well he was going to have a really nice retirement, while some people with more prestigious jobs were looking at not being able to retire at all.

This. Biden sucks, but Because Trump is in office they’re able to pack the courts with judges that get lifetime appointments and are making decisions about our reproductive freedom. Biden sucks, but because Trump is in office there are thousands of children in cages at the border. They’re sabotaging USPS and tossing out environmental protections. Seriously though, for a lot of history women weren’t allowed to own property or have bank accounts, so having jewelry was a woman’s only way to be even slightly fiscally independent.

That post is what this guy is responding to. Yeah, but there are women over there talking about their past abusive relationships and how they wish they could have had an escape fund. Really heartbreaking stuff. There are also people saying it would have been ok if she wasn’t secretive about it??? Like if you’re worried about abuse, you really shouldn’t be telling your possible abuser about how you’re going to escape. That shouldn’t be a hard concept to grasp.

Thanks for adding this. It doesn’t change my stance, though. It actually strengthened it. The co-parenting example is a good example of a relationship that you don’t get out of, but instead it just becomes a different kind of relationship. I’m saying if you don’t want a relationship couple’s counseling isn’t where you belong. That becomes complicated when someone isn’t sure they want out though. Very toxic or abusive relationships often leave people confused and not sure if a breakup would be go…

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I met my current guy at a fundraiser, so I was able to vet him a little bit right there. But if I was meeting people on OLD I’d prefer something that I could walk away from very quickly and preferably in the light of day. Also, like it or not, a sort of pre-date drink/coffee is pretty much the norm in the US now. Most guys are going to set that up first, especially if you’ve never met before or only met briefly.

That last like “she has pictures of him” makes me want her to have her own movie, where she’s basically Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride. I see this “skip to the end” mentality a lot. People want to skip to the serious relationship without the work of building a serious relationship. It’s a flawed mentality. 1- the dating/courting/pre-relationship stage is the foundation that you build your relationship on. Without it, just like a house with no foundation, everything will fall apart. 2- I think the whole mentality kind of assumes that once you’re in a serious relationship you don’t have to put any effort into the relationship anym…

I mean this is purely anecdotal, but in my experience women’s worst hookup stories are way worse then men’s. Even just reading the relationship advice subs here women are getting married to (not even just hooking up with) men that like don’t even brush their teeth or wash their belly buttons. I once heard a guy talking about a bad hookups and one was bad because he said she was fat and not hot enough for him. On the other hand I know women who prefer the “dad bod” look. It just seems like women …

Ugh, sorry, but imo there is nothing romantic about a proposal in front of a crowd and especially in front of strangers. It’s just making a spectacle and almost seems like it’s trying to get narcissistic supply. I also hate when men propose on the same day as their gf is graduating, or at their graduation party or on their birthday. It just take a special day for her and makes it about him too. This isn’t the point, but I really hate how common/normalized these hookups and one night stands with strangers are. That’s high risk behavior and people should approach and talk about it as high risk behavior. I’m not saying that people can’t do it or even necessarily that they absolutely shouldn’t do it, but everyone acting like it’s just carefree fun isn’t right either. And we need to be especially aware because it’s higher risk for women than it is for men.

Nope. Putting you on a pedestal isn’t loving you. If anything, it’s objectifying you. In Lundy Bancroft talks about this. If a man has you on a pedestal it’s like he thinks of you as his property and he doesn’t want to think of other men touching his property.

Exactly! This was deliberate. The whole effort of loading the plants and knowing exactly what he intended to do with them.. he had it all planned out. I bet he even planned the drinking just so he could have something to blame this horrible behavior on. And now he wants to rebuild her plant area fully knowing he tossed out an irreplaceable family heirloom?? You can’t fix that! Prenups protect you. Judges can only “set them aside” if there is reason to do so. When getting married both parties need to secure separate legal counsel to draft an agreement that is fair, will protect them, and follows all necessary guidelines so that the judge won’t have to “set it aside” later. Not having a plan ahead of time is just asking for trouble later.

I don’t know if this is in the US, but in the US there is this weird sort of attitude that a lot of people have that’s like it’s fine or even funny to be unhygienic. Like, before COVID I saw a bunch of people (women and men) tweeting about how if they’re in their own house they don’t wash their hands after urinating. It was disgusting. And now a lot of people are refusing to wear masks, which in my mind is a hygiene as well as a safety issue. It’s just frustrating and gross and selfish.

This is why the blanket advice of “communicate and compromise” sucks so much. She doesn’t want to be hurt, but he wants to hurt her, so the compromise is he hurts her a little bit. Even if she could hurt worse she’s still in pain, and therefore the compromise didn’t give her anything. Even in this “compromise” where he got exactly what he wanted and she got nothing, he’s still not happy and it turned into an “if you give him an inch, he’ll take a mile” situation. It’s just sad. I don’t wait to be talked to. Most of the men I’ve dated I met at parties or events where we have mutual friends or acquaintances and they end up asking me out. Are you talking about asking out men you don’t know at all or asking out men you’re already friends with?

I’d say something like “I thought you had more confidence than that.” Or “I didn’t realize you were this insecure.” Because, to me, that’s the big issue when it comes to asking for that info.

I wish they’d change the copyright laws. I think the way it is now is like whoever takes the pictures or videos holds copyright. But since I own my image I think I should have at least partial ownership of any pictures or videos taken of me.

It’s like she’s bragging that her skin doesn’t react to crap jewelry. Watch out cool girls, you have another standard to meet. Everyone knows women with sensitive skin are too high-maintenance.

I’d say talking about an ex is bad when: 1- they’re comparing you to their ex 2- the ex is all they talk about 3- they just want to tell you how awful the ex was, everything was the ex’s fault, problems in their life today can be blamed on the ex 4-they just want to tell you how perfect their ex was, the ex seems to be on a pedestal in their mind 5-they’re talking about their ex because the ex is still a big part of their life (now if there’s a good reason for this, like they share custody of a …

The body-confident part is a total joke. With the rise of porn came things like labiaplasty. Porn is destroying women’s confidence.

So it’s fine for him to call her delusional behind her back, but it’s not ok for her to win a fair competition that he agreed to? Got it.

This whole thing is a red flag, but the “no friends” was the biggest red flag of all. If anyone ever tries to stop you from having friends or from seeing your friends run far away. That’s how abusers trap people.

Once a cheater, always a cheater. Cheating is a character fault. Everyone has personal boundaries for things they would never do. Like maybe someone would never spit in another person’s face because they feel that that takes things too far, or maybe someone would never kick a dog, because that’s morally wrong. But other people do spit in peoples’ faces and some people do kick dogs. If someone has already made it clear that cheating is within their moral boundaries, then they will always be ok wi…

Absolutely! And while I’d advise others not to do what I’ve done, I’m stronger/more independent and know myself better because of it.

Hey, I want you to know that I’m in this same boat with you. I do regret the nudes to strangers now, but I can’t change what’s already done. I’m still working on forgiving myself. It’s a mistake that has haunted me for a while. Ultimately, I know that using nudes against me makes that person a bad person. I’m not the bad person in this situation.

“We must teach our children that niceness does not equal goodness. Niceness is a decision, a strategy of social interaction; it is not a character trait. People seeking to control others almost always present the image of a nice person in the beginning.” -Gavin de Becker, The Gift of Fear

I have a theory on why men do the double life thing, but it’s more about married men that do it. So I think men, and women too, have certain plans in their minds for how life is going to go with milestones and goals along the way. However, when men look around and see they’ve missed one of these milestones/goals they start looking for a “reset” button. They want to sort of go back to a good point and fix what they messed up. I feel like,to a man, the best “reset” is a new relationship. This beco…
