The therapist we saw initially was good but very expensive. This arrangement exacerbated our issues stemming from a disparity in income, and financial motivation so we found a different therapist. The second therapist was unable to moderate effectively and was clearly biased in favor of one party so that didn't work either. Looking back many years later, it would be fair to say that neither of us were sufficiently motivated to find a way to make things work. I've grown and healed quite a bit sin…

This person nailed it. I struggle with the same feelings, OP but I am learning and realized blame/shame is not the same as taking responsibility. Resources that helped me: Rebuilding When your Relationship Ends, Fisher and Alberti Jim Dethmer on The Tim Ferriss Show (ep.#434) Divorce group therapy Good luck on your journey, you'll get through this.

I tried in many ways that expressed my intentions and respected her boundaries to save it. Then I got to a place where I had said what I had to say and told her the door is open if she wants to talk. At that time I also acknowledged to myself that I expected, was promised and deserve better. Not 'until death do us part' but at least giving each other and our relationship the benefit of the doubt. To keep trying even when it is unbelievably hard. My STBXW chose another option, like yours, albeit …

Glad you're keeping it up. It's easy to stop, figure out a little while later that it was helping and start again.

Lots of similarities in our stories and lots of good advice here. Here's what's been helping me: Returning to hobbies/activities I enjoyed before my relationship started has helped me as has listening to music from before I met her. The book Rebuilding - When your relationship ends by Fisher and Alberti Tim Ferriss's interview of Jim Dethmer, especially beginning at ~50 minutes in Divorce support group and support groups for mental health challenges Saying 'yes' to every social opportunity I can…

In case these didn't get covered in your meeting here's what I wish I would have asked earlier: What do they recommend for communication with the STBXW? What should be written and what should only be discussed verbally (with them, the STBXW, other professionals that help, etc)? How much do they expect you to review records your STBXW prepares? What can you do to keep costs down? How responsive can they be/what's their current caseload? What should you be careful about posting on social media? Ar…

I'll let you know when I figure it out but I'm earlier in the process than you are so I hope you get there first. Most of the things that have helped me gain a little ground have already been said. Thanks for posting, a lot of people here seemed to externalize their pain as anger, it's comforting to hear from other people that internalize it instead.

No. Sounds like you and your coworker (like I) married a very ambitious and unappreciative person. Still, this is a gross oversimplification. As pointed out elsewhere, you (we) have a part in all this. They do to, but playing the victim card is weak. At the very least - we married these people and saw clues before hand and ignored them or didn't wait long enough to see them.

Get the prenup, even if you declare. A lot of these discussions are assuming you end up in court. The last thing you want to do is end up in court. Ideally you'll never have to worry about divorce to begin with. If you do the least expensive and painful (for everyone) option is to settle without even having to go to mediation because everyone is on the same page and that agreement is documented. For example you could declare your current assets ahead of time and be completely within the law but …

Absolutely. In a very similar place myself. Regret, fear, disillusion, shame, anger...the list goes on and I point my finger at myself even more than I do at her. I even want to make one more effort to get her to give us a second chance even though I think the chances of that effort succeeding are very slim and I'd give a reunion of at best a 50/50 shot. I'm also doing the best I can to funnel all the misery into motivation to work on myself, reach out to friends and family, exercise, etc. Teddy…
