I actually have a bigger problem with this portrayal of high school kids being so fashionable. I'm sure every outfit in that dreg is worth more than my paycheck. That's much worse to me, and much more subtle...

I'm not saying there's a line, I'm saying there isn't. If I'm only going to interact with people for the purpose of getting what I want from them, I'd have bigger issues. But that doesn't mean I won't make any judgments about it, because that would be imprudent. We are both aesthetically pleasing and materially useful to each other at one time. I stopped there too. I think abortion is wrong for completely different reasons, and I couldn't take him seriously after reading that. If he were a religious physicist, fine, I'll listen if his math is good. But a religious commentary on societal issues - not so much.

Yes, people like him. I'm not sure Nietzsche fully realized that a person's power comes largely from other people, but then I haven't read all of his work. He himself was a writer and composer among other things - in other words he strived to fulfill his creative potential, which perhaps is what he advocated for other people. Consequently he apparently despised people who relaxed a little now and then. So he was right about some stuff, but overall fuck that guy.

Thing is, I agree that there should be a meritocratic social order. But because of the nature of life and death, people are born already under the dominion of those who came before. I think preventing others from being capable of realizing their full potential, as we see much of today, is the greatest evil perpetrated by those on the top of our hierarchy who so jealousy guard their post. Humility must return to the culture.

Well I've heard arguments regarding one's duty to his nation, regardless of his beliefs. While I happen to think this is total bullshit, it seems to hold true for many. What I would like to see is a formally logical argument against the draft that simultaneously disarms the concept of duty. Or, and this I'm sure is much more likely to exist, an argument against the concept of duty that can be readily extrapolated to the draft.

Blacks during the slavery period were much less free than an American citizen of the twentieth century, that much is undisputed. But any situation in which an individual is forced into a life they did not choose is slavery. Not all slaves were born into bondage. Edit: Slavery is much more than picking cotton. I was drunk earlier but reading this again I realized your comment would be offensive if not for its ignorance.

What's 'the Dol'? I agree though, a 'right,' it seems to me, is wishful thinking. A right to not have your throat slit does not prevent your throat from being slit... It only says that TPTB will try to get vengeance for you, post mortem, as if that's any consolation.

I agree. To me, the draft system is a statement from the government that they own you, as property. How is this different from slavery? And that is not a rhetorical question; will somebody please explain how this is not a declaration of ownership, if it is not?

I know what you mean from an outside perspective. I've had to separate from my current girlfriend geographically because of this. I love her, and I want to be with her, but her anger is blinding and easy to arouse. I told her I can't be with her if she doesn't try to change it, but I don't know what I can do to help. Have you tried? If so, what have you tried, and has anything worked toward lessening this?

Just an anecdote: My cousin is a stripper. She told me one Christmas (which is the only time I ever see her, really) that she had made ~$100,000 that year (she's very pretty). She spent nearly all of that on drugs. edit: Also on designer clothes and the like.
