More women than men watch violent, misogynistic porn. What's the reason?Intuition is horribly inaccurate. Besides which, you're still not acknowledging the difference between wanting it done to you vs wanting to do it to someone. These are not people fantasizing about doing violent things to others. These are people fantasizing about having violence done to them. That says nothing about the things they may or may not do to others. | /r/PurplePillDebate | 19/04/25 08:24 PM
More women than men watch violent, misogynistic porn. What's the reason? Those people are electing to do that for profit. Different thing. People have rough sex. Some people don't find it degrading, some people want it to be degrading. Those are their choices. People wrestle at jiu jitsu practices. This is violent, but not immoral. Actors in Hollywood films have choreographed fight scenes. This is not violent, but appears violent. Corporate retreats have tug o wars. This is arguably violent, depending on your definition. People accidentally jostle each other on the b… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 18/04/25 10:32 PM
More women than men watch violent, misogynistic porn. What's the reason?I think this is one side of it, but isn't the only puzzle piece, and arguably is an emergent property. We should instead ask why people might be submissive. On the evolutionary side, it could be a way to test a man's physical prowess. If a guy can throw you around in the bedroom, he is more likely to be able to protect you and any offspring from threats. This would be more of a biological instinct thing, which is why it can show up even when not planning to conceive. There's also my personal fav… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 18/04/25 08:06 PM
More women than men watch violent, misogynistic porn. What's the reason? There needs to be a very, very strong distinction between "I want this done to me" and "I want to do this to someone." The latter is violent. The former is not. Wanting to be subjected to violence is not the same thing as wanting to inflict violence on others. There are a plethora of reasons a person might be into the idea (and there is also a difference between wanting it in concept vs in practice) that does not necessarily mean the person wants to inflict harm on others. | /r/PurplePillDebate | 18/04/25 07:52 PM
Theory: hookup culture is an example of the paradox of choiceMaybe defensive was the wrong word. A distancing? I think it's just an interesting indication of just how prevalent the pressure around the topic is, more than any specific reaction. I guess my initial point was to try and say that most people who have sex will have casual sex at some point in time. What exactly the proportion is at any given point in time I'm not sure, I just wouldn't be very certain that it's "most people." I think we have to zoom in to a specific circumstance to make any conc… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 15/04/25 10:44 PM
Theory: hookup culture is an example of the paradox of choiceYeah there's a question between "culture" and instance, and I'm honestly not partial to the term hookup culture. I don't think it accurately captures human behaviour. If it's applicable, it's in specific sub cultures like colleges or "the clubbing scene" or swingers. I think it's more accurate to say that people sporadically hookup, and then have extended periods of time where they don't. Some people spend more time in "hookup mode," and for some people it's rare instances. I will maintain that … | /r/PurplePillDebate | 15/04/25 06:25 PM
Theory: hookup culture is an example of the paradox of choiceWe're at an interesting intersection at the moment, at least in western culture. In certain sub-cultures, like university, it's very prevalent. between 60 and 80 percent of North American college students have had some sort of hook-up experience 70% of college of sexual active 12- to 21-year olds reported having uncommitted sex within the last year Sauce: https://www.apa.org/education-career/ce/sexual-hook-up.pdf Importantly, that is for college students as a broad number, whereas the second sta… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 15/04/25 05:13 PM

Theory: hookup culture is an example of the paradox of choiceDynamics change in different social situations. By example, on college campuses, sexual habits are generally dependant on the sex ratio. When there are many men and few women, you typically see skews towards more conservative habits. The women are the more scarce resource, so men who want to compete have to adhere to the standards the women set. And women tend to set standards of higher commitment. The men have to compete by adhering more stringently to those standards. When the gender ratio ske… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 15/04/25 04:16 PM
A lot of “icks” and turn-offs are just modern women reinforcing traditional gender roles while pretending to reject themseniors have more privileges than freshmen was not tolerated That's where it is then. The hierarchy is still there and is still enforced, just through different channels. And if there are actions which are not tolerated, those would constitute some form of bullying. Maybe I'm broadening the definitions too much, but I see "bullying" as a subset of "hierarchy enforcement and struggle." A group creates a set of expectations, and if someone does not adhere to their standards, they are punished. Thi… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 15/04/25 04:06 PM
Women are the ones red pilling men, not the manospherewomen are inherently dishonest about what they're looking for in a partner I'm going to push back on the idea of dishonesty here, as well as the gendering of it. It's part of two broader phenomena: stated vs. revealed preferences and social desirability bias. In stated vs revealed preferences, what you're dealing with is a disconnect between what a person thinks they want, and the thing that their brain -- unconsciously -- decides on. Dishonesty is not necessary to explain the phenomenon. There … | /r/PurplePillDebate | 15/04/25 03:45 PM
A lot of “icks” and turn-offs are just modern women reinforcing traditional gender roles while pretending to reject themNot saying you did any bullying or got bullied, but you can't have 750 of anyone and not have bullying of some variety. It can look different, it won't always be shoving in lockers and stuff, but there will always be some number of people attempting to enforce a hierarchy with themselves higher up than others. If you were lucky, you avoided most of it or were able to ignore it, but you can't have 750 humans around each other without some form of "bullying" appearing. | /r/PurplePillDebate | 15/04/25 02:48 PM
This subreddit is all about statistics until it makes men look bad.I think what's happening on some level, if not fully understood by people doing it, is that it feels like there's certain subjects where the stats are... muddy for lack of a better word, and people feel like men are being unfairly portrayed. That there has been a bias in research with a direct aim at vilifying men. And, with some degree of frequency, further investigation does tend to show that there's important puzzle pieces missing. Take the wage gap as an example. Women get paid 70¢ on the do… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 28/03/25 10:17 PM
