I understand the angle which you're presenting. There are tangents with perspectives concerning both the history of our species and the complex mind of our species. Sorry, but that makes no sense. Distant cultures, never ever having been in contact, also share this major trait. If it's unnatural, why does people all around the globe feel the need to shame people into such a behaviour? Who orchestrates these giant, international conspiracies, and for what reason?

I was not given the opinion that he fancied his situation initially. Rather, I think that he quickly realised the dire dilemma he stood before: he had already lost the battle once his wife bluntly asks such a thing. Either he runs, thus losing his precious wife, or he rationalises the concept and simply get as comfortable with it as possible.
