Is this your first exposure to critical analysis? It's fundamental to the genre to use and reference other people's points in pursuance of your argument and, in video, to use multimedia clips not personally created. You don't even need to go through stodgy literary texts; look at any documentary, RedLetterMedia reviews, or the youtubes criticizing Sarkeesian to see the same thing.

What false pretenses? It is absolutely true that it is a predominant and reoccurring theme in games to make women helpless and weak and in need of rescuing. You could say, credibly, that there are also problems with how men are presented, but that doesn't invalidate the point or even make it one-sided. When men complain about paternity fraud, are we thereby required to criticize men for skipping out on legitimate child support? Of course not.

As a MRA, Sarkeesian is completely correct about this issue and should be praised for bringing light to it to the extent that is reasonable. Warren Farrell in "The Myth of Male Power" explicitly and repeatedly states that both men and women are hurt by gender roles and is only criticizing the lack of focus on men's issues, the fact that men have issues does not invalidate claims that media portrayals of women can also be legitimately problematic.
