I agree, there is so much about marriage and motherhood that I could never understand with my current life experience. Do you think I could mention the RPW concept to her as a passing idea for myself? We've had some good conversations about philosophy, and she loves talking about the Bible and how to apply it to one's life. If I mentioned surrendering as a Biblical concept under consideration for myself, maybe it would plant a seed in her head, or at least let me know if she's open to the concep…

Thank you very much for your advice; it really helps me. I really relate to what you said. I do admit I've often had the mom:difficult dad:long-suffering mindset. In many ways I still view my father through the rose-colored lenses of a admiring child and see him as "perfectly" enduring the "suffering" inflicted by my mother. Yes, those were my thoughts too. I'm 20, so I've only just started to get to know my parents as adults, and there's no way I know my parents as well as they know each other and I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. I just wish there was some clear way I could help, other than mitigating the outbursts after they come up. My mother has good intentions, and recently she's been trying to become close with me, but I find it difficult to reciprocate because I'm so wary of her outbursts.
