1	Nah there is no bias in the courts. Convicted female murder gets a hug from her own judge. I would argue that this didn't have premeditation so it is the reason it has such a short length. If you look at other cases you should find that sentencing lengths will be in the same neighborhood. The jury gives the sentencing too, so even if the judge was biased 12 people had to come to an agreeance regarding the sentencing. I bring up race since it is a central part of the trial and in an endless number of comments on this thread. It irritates me to no end when a female rapist gets no time served. The thing is I don't do illegal stuff so I don't really have to be able to understand how a criminal rapist feels when they get 20 years and woman gets parole that is 1-3 years. That is basically what you are saying is the only option if she couldn't have done this accidentally. Yeah I tend to stay away from reddit due to some of the over the top responses and gang mentality. They are not going to make jury of 12 gang bangers so that it is a jury of "their" peers. The jury should also not have any information regarding the case prior to it beginning, so again shrinks their peer pool. Then felons typically do not sit on a jury because the juror pool is collected from voting registers, which felons are not on. The way the people involved reacted towards her makes me think that it was not intentional. It is a tragedy that he lost his life and as a parent I don't care what color he was, I could never get over losing my child. I thought that this had all sorts of major issues, but seeing the brother and black judge treating her in this way make me think this was a truly unfortunate accident. I didn't feel bad for her until now. On top of that, 10 years is not a short sentence for the charges against her. She could have been given as little as 2 years. He could have still forgiven "Tim" and not hugged him though. It certainly seems that with so many black people forgiving her that she seems to have made an honest mistake. And ten years is not a short sentence for Manslaughter. People get significantly less than 10 years frequently for manslaughter and that includes men. I agree that there is definitely a difference in the way women are treated in the court system too, but this isn't exactly it. There are so many issues that could be brought up too. Like the guy was black and she is white or that the judge is black and she is white or even just they are in Texas that could all be issues or represent bias.
