1	My son needs help and I feel hopeless Thanks Chavelah. I already talked to his school (emailed them the diagnosis the day of the doctor's visit). I'm going to talk to the school psychologist and begin the testing to get him help at school. He is already getting help for Speech. Unfortunately, the schools can only do so much. I'm a teacher myself. The whole IDEA law (for special education) is set to allow for the kid to be successful in school. 2	My son needs help and I feel hopeless Thanks Always. I went and got a prescription for the therapy from the primary doctor today. He was the one that originally recommended the evaluation. Now that it's done, he signed off and agreed to it. Hence, I have 2 doctors and a half-dozen behavior-specialists and two speech therapists. We shall see. 1	My son needs help and I feel hopeless My son is turning six tomorrow. Hence, why I am in a rush to start the therapy. He is high functioning and the autism is not really a major issue. His problem is with his Speech. He has dyspraxia, which means he can talk, but sometimes can't coordinate his muscles. Thus, he can say the word balloon as balloon, gabloon, dabloom, etc. If anything, he needs speech ASAP. The mother though, is in denial of the autism side. 1	My son needs help and I feel hopeless I've been reading about it and she is in denial and shock. This is augmented by the fact that my former 15 year old step-daughter, her biological daughter, has some of the same qualities as my son (not the speech, but certainly some of the social cues and language issues). The poor girl is home-schooled, which in her case means she is a middle-school dropout :(. 2	My son needs help and I feel hopeless Thanks Madememeh. I haven't found a therapy expert who can do it after hours. I am due back at the diagnostician's office on Tuesday so I will ask them. The problem with after hours is that they may not take insurance. Therapy being the price it is, this may be prohibitive. I was thinking about offering her a compromise like I'll return the kids Sunday evening so you have some time with them in exchange of taking Nando to his therapy. 1	My son needs help and I feel hopeless Already did. The ex wants a 2nd opinion so I have to give her some time, maybe a month or two. I would love to get him therapy in the mean time, especially since they will do their own evaluation of what he needs the most (hence, a second opinion will be done by the very same people who will actually give him the therapy). 4	My son needs help and I feel hopeless The last time I had contact with the mother, she said that if I took our son to therapy on her time (Monday 7:30 AM thru Thursday 6PM; Thursday 8 PM thru Friday 6PM) she will take me to court on grounds of picking up our son during mediation. I forwarded the email to my attorney. A free attorney line (dealing with custody issues) already told me that the best thing for having access to medical issues would be to do a motion to modify the degree. She forgot about our son's Autism screening (despite my reminders and the doctors reminders). She got late to the diagnosis. Instead of sitting down and joining us she stormed into the diagnosis room, bypassed security, and took our son away without permission.Fortunately, they had done most of the tests.
