I went through this with my husband almost a year ago when we weren’t even engaged yet. Two of his childhood best friends were having their wedding in his hometown on my 30th birthday of all days, lol. AND my husband was in the wedding. Surprisingly, I wasn’t too nervous. We drove from Texas to Mississippi to spend the weekend in his hometown. I was not only meeting all of his childhood friends for the first time, but I was also meeting his family for the first time, and I had to meet all of the…

I’m not sure how much he should make for us to live comfortably without my income. We live in a suburban area of Dallas.

My daughter is incredibly intelligent and has been all of her life. She knows the alphabet, her numbers up until 20, all of her colors and shapes, but she learned those things at 1. Now she can draw faces, spell her name as well as our names, and she is potty trained. Those are just a few of her amazing qualities. I just love her so much and I miss her when I’m not with her. She’s such a beautiful child and a bright light in a sometimes dark world. I don’t think I initially really spoke to the m…

It definitely developed quickly, lol. But there were multiple factors to him losing his job. And he does have a job now, we were just waiting for his background check to come back for him to start. He wants to provide. Life just happens sometimes.

I make $60K and my husband will be making $66K. Together, we will have a decent income. I don’t know if we can survive in our area on just one. And we live in North Texas, so a reasonably low cost of living, but we would have to sacrifice a lot, and we’re already sacrificing for a wedding we really don’t need to have now that we’re married, lol. What I value in life is family. That’s really what matters most to me. I want to be there as a support system for my husband and daughter. I’m not alway…

I definitely plan on keeping him forever. He truly is amazing, and maybe I’m just being selfish and wanting too much too soon. I also just miss being with my daughter. It’s really about her. I have an amazing husband and an amazing daughter, and sometimes I just want to focus fully on them.

I actually really like the company I work for now vs the last job I had right out of college, which was also my last job. I guess I just love being at home with my daughter and want to fully focus on her and her upbringing. She prefers my husband over me, which I know is just toddler things, but it breaks my heart. I didn’t want to leave this morning for I work. I just wanted to snuggle her in bed. I know working benefits us financially, but I just miss her right now. I’m actually trying to not …

I so appreciate this comment. You have given me a dose of reality that I needed. No, we simply aren’t in the place financially for me to leave the workforce. I wish we were, but we’re just not there. Right now, I am the sole income earner. That will change next month, but it’s been stressful. I wouldn’t call myself lazy, I just love my daughter so much, and was a single mom for a year, so being away from her is hard. My husband takes care of her primarily now and it’s difficult for me to deal wi…

I did live with my husband for almost a year before we got married, but when we decided to move in together, we both agreed we’d be engaged within 6 months of living together. He stuck to that. We met Feb. 2020, moved in March 2021, engaged Aug. 2021, and recently legally married last Saturday, so Feb. 2022. And we still haven’t been officially together 2 years yet. Our 2 year anniversary isn’t for another week. It shouldn’t take years and years and years of dating and living together before mar…

A man who wants to be married will make it happen. My fiancé and I discussed marriage before we were even together for a year. He proposed at 1.5 years (this past August). We were going to get married next October, but I told him I wanted to be married sooner than our wedding and he agreed. We’re getting married in March around our 2 year anniversary. I never once had to beg him to marry me. He always wanted to marry me. He shows me how much he loves me and wants to spend the rest of his life wi…

When I met my now fiancé (I’m 30, he’s 35), I was sure he was the one very quickly and he felt the same about me. I received a lot of snarky and skeptical comments from two people in particular: my somewhat bitter and inexperienced 24 year old sister, and my aunt who has been married 3 times and divorced 3 times. Around 6 months in, I made our relationship “Facebook official”, and both of these women had rude things to say to me. I have never posted any other man on social media. I did so becaus…

It doesn’t seem he’s that interested and you’re investing a lot into a man you’ve only known two months. Granted, I invested a lot into my fiancé early on, but he was not only consistently communicating with me daily, but he was planning fun dates for us. We went into the pandemic around 2 months in, and he would still plan weekend dates where he would either cook for me (I didn’t cook for him until 8 months or so, but he constantly cooked for me), or get my favorite takeout, and we would do som…

While I don’t love video gaming (I used to say I’d never date a gamer), my fiancé does play every once in a while. It’s something he used to enjoy more when he was single and could play with his friends, but since we’ve been together, he plays sporadically. He also used to write for a video game review company, so it was his job to play and write about games. But most of his hobbies are things I enjoy as well like running, reading, writing, playing music, hiking, and traveling. On the surface, h…

Are you not concerned with how he talks to you? Calling someone dumb, a bigot, a nazi, and a brat, are not loving and kind terms, or things someone who loves and respects you would say. My fiancé isn’t as conservative as me, though he’s far from a liberal, and our political discussions never end in name calling or us getting upset. It’s not that we don’t ever argue about things, but politics is something we can have civil, intellectual discussions about. I would not have said yes to marrying him…

As someone who lost 100 lbs, you are not at a disadvantage. I never had problems dating as a bigger girl (I was a size 14-16), and I dated mostly quality men, but I was unhappy with my weight. I did get pregnant (longish story), but after I had my daughter, I went on a weight loss journey and went from a size 16 to size 00. I started dating again and dated even better men than before. Long story short, met my fiancé, and now we’re getting married. I’m about a 2-6 (depending on clothing brand) no…

Just went through a breakup with my first serious and LT boyfriend, and your advice is exactly what I needed to read. I was going back and forth of do I immediately start dating again, or do I give myself time to learn and grow, and after some praying and quiet time, I read your advice and now I know that taking some time off for a while is the best. It can be so easy to want to slip back into the arms of someone else after getting out a relationship, but I really needed to read this. My ex is a…

I honestly look for the same things. Working hard on bettering yourself is kind of my #1. I have a lot of experience with people who are okay not trying to be the best person they can be and it's irritating. I am an ever growing and learning person, so it's hard for me to be around stagnant people. I'm currently stagnant in some ways because I'm in the middle of a job search and possible job transition, and it's a trying time for me, and the neglect I'm showing myself intellectually, physically,…

Oh, absolutely. I'm blessed to have 3 sisters and a mother I'm close to, but I do not keep friends easily. Making them is one thing, but establishing lifelong friendships is something I struggle with. I have the same struggles you do of not connecting on a deeper level or feeling I'll be judged. I still hold out for female friendships I can call "real", but I know that my sisters and mother provide just as much, if not more, love and support as a good friendship would.
