coup de grâce, and pronounced coo de gra French is a bitch to write, so when you do, google it to make sure you have it correct. Same goes for latin. :)

Sorry, literally would be dodging it in writing. What you described is actually dodging it.

Risk mitigation has 2 components. Likelihood and impact. You can address both. Also, speaking as someone with 3 kids, divorce would have a positive impact on my residual income even if I walk out with nothing but a suitcase.

75% of people hate their jobs. 99% of people are less happy after having kids. 70% of people are overweight. People do all kinds of shit wrong, that doesn't mean you should just give up on finding the right path and settling for being a fat putz with a dead end job. You seem resigned to accept the common failures of other people as a defining limitation on your own life. Is some shit harder to do or harder to find? Yes. That doesn't make it a waste of time, it just means you should be careful wh…

If someone else feeling bad makes you feel better by definition you're petty and weak. Revenge is the refuge of those that don't have the strength to plan for the future.

Suicide statistics are high in my country too and I don't have a rope around my neck. I'd think the first thing RP would teach you is that you shouldn't settle for the Bell curve. Divorce statistics are high because people keep doing it wrong.

Your claim that I'm in the minority is baseless, but let's accept it for argument's sake. Maybe I am. Maybe because I did it right. I'm not sure where you get the idea that I made a mistake when it's clearly working for me. Maybe you shouldn't project your insecurities on people who have shit figured out.

Don't marry a girl, marry a woman. Don't sign a long term contract with someone guaranteed to change who still hasn't developed a stable identity.

If a party with cake and a piece of paper ruin your sex life, you've got bigger problems you should be dealing with.

Checking in. The first thing to do is separate the concept of marriage, kids, and life in a relationship. The only way it'll work is when it would have worked just fine whether you were married or not. Until it's just a party with a cake, you're not ready.

Maybe the problem isn't in the concept of marriage but in the fact that you did it wrong, for the wrong reasons, at the wrong time, and/or to the wrong person? Maybe you should own your fuckup and not project blame outward? I'm married with 3 kids myself and have been for over 10 years. There's ups and downs, as with any relationship between two individuals, but all in all, it's a good thing for me. Now... for some actual advice, albeit based on my circumstantial evidence. I was in the relations…

You're looking at the wrong people. The trick is to be the best at what you do. The best plumber drives a new mercedes. Low wages always mean one thing - that you can be replaced by someone at that low wage. Once your contribution makes it hard to replace you, you earn more.

I'd add that you should never take a paycheck only for money. 3 years on a good salary where you didn't grow is 3 years lost. Money will come as you gnaw your way up the food chain so any time you evaluate jobs, think if it's the kind of job where you'll learn new things and grow to be better at what you do. If it's not, is it the kind of job that's gonna let you practice what you learn on your own time? If it's not, leave it to the drones that do repetitive motion for years and move on.

We don't really know the story. If he was killing himself to provide a premium lifestyle to a ditzy instagram attentionwhore of a wife who doesn't pull her weight, he's an idiot. If he struggled to provide a respectable living for his family, as in his kids, he's a tragic hero. There's few things I won't do to offer my kids a prosperous start to life. I also sometimes work ungodly hours to give them a leg up on their peers. That's what a provider does. Killing yourself so you bitchy wife gets to…

Keeping with the overall desire of this sub for self improvement, I'd like to tack on to an interesting issue you raised. When discussing stoicism and the frame of focusing on that which you can influence, you touched on the gnawing question of the past. I see many people dwelling on past "mistakes", sabotaging their present by reliving the past from the present perspective. A relationship went sour, was I wrong to start it in the first place? Could I have done something different half way in? A…

Just a heads up. A punch to the face is the worst way to start a fight. Assuming you're not suckerpunching someone, an argument works up to that point. People are ready and faces are protected quickly. You're much better off going for a loose rib or lower along the sides. That's movement outside of immediate line of sight and focus. Any pushing and shoving has people's arms raised exposing the area further. Nobody is big enough to ignore a sharp punch to their vitals, and once they double over, …

I recomend that you read (or listen to) Cialdini's Influence and The Like Switch. You'll see a million ways where human judgment fails and takes convenient shortcuts. These shortcuts, heuristics that we use biologically, are often the little things that tip the scales in your favor. In the end, everything is engineered. You put on a suit for an important meeting, because it'll set up a certain expectation from others in that setting. You don't look at a beggar, because you know acknowledging his…

It can be applied to anyone. Small and perfectly reasonable asked favors, like the one I described in my post, lay the ground work of positive affinity.

It's social psychology and billions are made in sales and marketing pretty much running Cialdini's playbook. What he defined is how to direct people to want something through positive enforcement. It's actually integral to many things I read around here, but for other reasons. Where it gets lost often is the intricacies. Let's look at compliments as a great example. There's a huge difference between flattery and a compliment, and it's often lost in either inexperience or nuance. Flattery is a fo…

It ties directly into cognitive dissonance, the inability of people to hold two opposite opinions at the same time - roughly like this... You're talking to someone in a bar. 5 minutes in, you ask them if they can hold your drink while you pop into the restroom. Banal and simple as fuck so far. Now... this isn't a lot to ask, and it's completely reasonable. They just did you a tiny favor. Still, a favor it was. Nobody thinks of themselves as such an idiot that they would do a favor to someone the…

A form of social contract espousing public ownership and control of means of production... Traditionally a system in which women were furthest from power and capital. What are you on about?

A good thing to remember is that other people will tell you what they think you can't do. Don't join them and tell yourself you can't do something. Also, and something I struggled with for a bit... when someone offers you work outside of your comfort zone, shut up and go with it. They decided you're a viable choice, trust that they have their reasons.

I think self awareness is key. When people talk about themselves due to low self esteem or need for ego they don't realize the effect it has. Understanding the patterns helps correct them, you don't need to be a transcendent master of self to do less self defeating shit. :)

I've had the fortune to befriend a senior State Department diplomat on his N-th international post. He was one of those people, the kind of person who commands a room and is instantly liked by anyone he talks to. A textbook alpha presence with an aura that drowns out surrounding noise. I initially told myself this was a natural characteristic of his, because it was easier for me to rationalize. Now, some 15 years later, I've come to see that it's a method, a process you can learn. He's just done…

Most countries have laws that equalize partnership after 5 years and marriage in separation. Just saying.

To the contrary, I love hyperbole, most "inappropriate" comedy, and colorful speech. It's just that there was no joke in that diatribe. Nothing he said had any of the markings of humor or tongue-in-cheek. It has to be a joke to be interpreted as a joke.
/r/RedPillWomen08/12/16 11:35 AM

That's the problem. What point was he making by claiming whiter countries are more successful? That wasn't a hyperbole to drive a different point, that was the point itself. You can't excuse everything as just a joke, if the joke isn't funny. You could claim that he was simply trying to make someone uncomfortable, and that this was his sole reason to make a racist statement (not a joke, mind you). That could sort of pass as an explanation, but that then makes him a fundamentally shitty person, a…

Errr... I took him at his word? He clearly made no attempt to position his words as either humor or jest. He did make the person across the table uncomfortable, as overt racism tends to do. It never crossed my mind that he wasn't serious until you suggested it, and even going back, I can't see any intent at humor in his words. That said, his having married an Indian woman doesn't say anything? He clearly thinks very little of gender equality, so why would his Indian wife suggest that he has any …

You didn't watch the videos? Look at the 4th video, where he claimed that the reason "northern European" countries are more prosperous and have better systems is because they have a higher density of whites. This is not only patently wrong, as Eastern European countries are far less racially diverse, but also attributing the success of a country directly to race. Even if he was correct statistically, pointing that out as the main element of country success is... racist as fuck.

He left behind hypothetical future value in the same way he left behind the risk of losing everything if the company went under. In other news, he's a shameless racist, and enjoys passing simplified judgment on everyone around him with very few facts to back it up. Is that "alpha" behavior? Just being loud and interrupting people to drill your own statement through is a sign of weakness. Standing up for facts, arguing your point, and making people see your side of the argument through irrefutabl…

You were literally there, being talked to. If that triggers your insecurity, you really need to reread it again.

You might be overanalysing. No need to attach a rationale and value to every look. Keep a record, and once someone exhibits a repetitive pattern of behavior, then you can do the math on what it means. Generally, people looking to understand behavior of others read too much into details that mean nothing. It's patterns that tell you something, not singular data points.

Women (not girls) don't like absurdly muscular men because getting that massive is a singular priority lifestyle that eats all your time and money. While that may be ok for a one night stand, anyone looking for more in life isn't interested.

Go back to the store. Try on more shoes. Ask her if she wants to go out for a drink, since you can't really afford to buy $150 shoes every time you feel like seeing her. I'm a straight male and if a guy dropped that at me I'd give him a coffee date.
