Yeah, it doesn't speak to being more inclusive; giving players a choice would be more inclusive. Even if random avatars is a design choice, the official response is arrogant
It's only recently (and only sometimes) that you get to customize your avatar in a FPS at all, it's hard to argue that they are undermining a fundamental concept.
The game had only male avatars prior to this change. The 'half the population' they are referring to are women, who prior to the change could only play as an avatar that didn't represent them. I still think it's annoying to force it to be randomized and go 'now you know how they feel, jerks!', though.

It's pretty clear that the feelings they are referring to are women being forced to play with a male avatar in the game up to this point. Where are you getting transgender stuff from?
