When we were dating for a long enough time, I told her I had enough saved up for a small down payment on a house, just enough to stop renting two apartments. The mortgage payment and all expenses was 2/3 of what we were paying in combined rent so it was a good deal, plus equity. So it was either that or a wedding, and we agreed the house made more sense.
