Lydia Cuomo wants NY to expand definition of rape to include "anal" and "oral", currently only includes "vaginal" penetrationA lot of what you're saying makes sense. Maybe I'm an optimist or an idealist, but I see an opportunity here. Yes, changing this definition in NYS law to include anal and oral penetration will not do much to make it easier for male victims of forced envelopment to come forward or to get a conviction against their rapist, however... it will at least recognize that men and LGBT people can be victims, too, and can stand up alongside female victims and be counted. Once they are counted, once society… | /r/MensRights | 14/02/13 03:50 PM
Lydia Cuomo wants NY to expand definition of rape to include "anal" and "oral", currently only includes "vaginal" penetrationHang on. That's a very concrete conclusion you're jumping to. I think a lot of divisiveness comes from people predicting how "the other side" is going to react, and it goes both ways. We should focus on the issue itself, and if people do react in a way that's not constructive, then we can debate their opinion. | /r/MensRights | 14/02/13 03:37 PM
Lydia Cuomo wants NY to expand definition of rape to include "anal" and "oral", currently only includes "vaginal" penetrationI'm not a lawyer, nor do I have any knowledge of the law beyond John Grisham novels and SVU, but it's my understanding that the difference between "rape" and "sexual assault", as far as sentencing, is similar to the difference between "murder" and "manslaughter". | /r/MensRights | 13/02/13 11:45 PM
Lydia Cuomo wants NY to expand definition of rape to include "anal" and "oral", currently only includes "vaginal" penetrationSo, I posted this to see what the /mensrights reaction would be. Personally, I think this is an issue that MRA's and Feminists should be fighting together on (or, you know, PEOPLE should be fighting together on it and not dividing ourselves into camps in order to do so). Think about it...if the definition of "rape" in New York state remains limited to "forced vaginal penetration", that would make it hypothetically impossible for a man to be raped according to law. This also effects LGBT people w… | /r/MensRights | 13/02/13 09:13 PM

Stop insisting that I call myself a feminist!Agree with all of the above. My mom, who is Roman Catholic, cried when I told her I was atheist because it means "I'm going to hell". I tried explaining to her that that's ok, because hell only exists for the religious, and that didn't make her feel better. Sigh... | /r/MensRights | 04/11/12 09:56 PM
"Something is wrong, and It's Not Feminism"There's a thought I've been having that I'm trying really hard to word properly. I've come across this attitude of "How can you consider yourself a champion for social justice and civil rights when you refuse to call yourself a feminist". I don't like labels to begin with, but if I had to go with one I'd say I'm egalitarian. I refuse to call myself feminist because of the radical extremists and militants (case in point: name ONE radical or militant egalitarian. I'll wait...) Here's the connectio… | /r/MensRights | 03/11/12 05:44 PM
