Don't date a superhero until you see him without his powers. You think you landed Superman until BOOM Peter Parker.

We don't allow pharmaceutical companies to advertise (prescription drugs) to the public here, so that may be the reason we don't call them by brand names. People would be less aware of what "brands" the drug is sold as, the brand names would be more familiar to the pharmacists (or doctors, though they would usually refer to the generic drug name). We do have drug brands, they'd just be less recognised. And we have drugs available in "generic" brands which are kind of like the same drug but sold …

Thx we call this the "morning after pill" in Australia.

On the contrary, I would have thought that would be part of the fun. Though as I say I have no real way of knowing either way. It's just that a lot of that stuff, it's hard to believe a real, normal person saying. And by experience that is when you have to at least think of the possibility that they're only saying that stuff for the reaction.

How do we know the "woman" who posted that isn't a troll? I tend to assume anything inflammatory on the internet is likely to be a troll, unless it's someone I know in the flesh. I'm just saying. A lot of what is on this sub-reddit is reaction to outrageous things said in other sub-reddits. If all these things were said by real people, then it's all justified, as there are indeed outrageous things that have been said. However, they are said by totally anonymous people. We have no way of knowing …

I don't think that's a world-wide phenomenon. I don't feel it here in Australia.

I can't quite parse the quote I'm afraid - was it translated from some other language or is it written in order to be confusing? I think I kind of read it as a statement of logic: That some men do bad things, therefore all women should be afraid men, therefore all men do bad things. Is that what it's getting at? Obviously the logic is flawed there (all A are B but not all B are A). But was the point of that quote to highlight the logic flaw or what? I don't understand its relevance sorry.

That's not really how the law works. What do you mean by this? I assume you're not saying that reading a T-shirt can be legally binding?

It may raise some eyebrows, but it'll do jack all. You can photograph people in a public place. Nobody can say otherwise. It is just a part of having an open transparent society and being able to document things. Whether that be corrupt cops, a guy who just robbed a car, or just daily observances such as fashion, trends, etc. You're allowed to photograph it.

This is a good thing. On aggregate, men will still likely pay more for car insurance because: They're more likely to own a car and will drive it more They're more likely to own a more powerful or expensive car However, charging more for these reasons is completely fair, because it doesn't discriminate against any individual man who doesn't fit these usage patterns, simply because he is a man. The reason men have more expensive accidents is that on aggregate they are more likely to drive more and…

The person posting this drivel was female, so you've decided that all women must be like this? Surely we can avoid doing the same to women that we hate them doing to us, and at the same time devote some time to more important mens issues than this drivel?

Rick Gipprich, of the San Antonio Rape Crisis Center, said the case really illustrates how dangerous the internet can be for both boys and girls. Um... somehow it's the internet's fault? I'd say it's the law's fault, wouldn't you? Or at the least, this woman's fault.

This is a very good point. The article seems to be confusing bond and bail, believing (falsely) that his $10,000 bond meant that his bail would have been set at $10,000.
/r/MensRights23/06/11 03:58 AM

Don't they set bail according to your ability to pay? The woman was dirt poor (couldn't afford the bail) and the guy was well off (could easily afford his) unless I'm mistaken.

this woman was trying to become a lawyer FWIW, I don't think she was trying very hard. I doubt she really wanted to be a lawyer all that much given that she was being kicked out for not doing anything. It's just a really lazy woman with seriously distorted morals.

Yes but it's still depressing that it represents views held by the majority of laypeople.

The majority of world leaders are men. But almost all garbage collectors are men. The majority of homeless people are also men. There are a lot more garbage collectors and homeless people than world leaders. I don't know where I'm going with this. Something about there being a lot more men at the bottom of the heap (with no power) than at the top.

Seriously. You really need to consider it, for real. All of eternity is a long time to be with someone who holds a fundamentally incompatible world view to you, especially when it's about your value as a person. Do it for your own sanity. That is all :)

It's cool that you were okay with that. But it is most certainly NOT a legal issue, but a fear issue. It's a "we think men are child abusers and women are nurturing" issue. I doubt there's evidence to support their view, but even if there is, it is still damning a whole gender to assume they are all child molesters.

If only it were that simple. I doubt that a court would favour a gay man over a straight man (or woman). Your sexual preference is not going to prevent you raping someone or being suspected of rape, and may just expose you to anti-gay prejudice in the court. And what if was a young boy accusing you of rape rather than a girl anyway? A man can't laugh off a false rape accusation, regardless of his sexual preference.
/r/MensRights10/06/11 01:47 AM

But how would that stop someone making a false accusation about you?

But we have to admit it's often the case that they do consent. They can consent as much as a female can. That is, they can say they consented and think they consented, but in the law they cannot actually be considered to have consented. This is exactly the same whether they are male or female.

Isn't that photoshopped though? The letters don't match up with the slots. Or is that the point - that someone would photoshop something like this?

Forget whether he's guilty for a sec (the courts can decide that, then we can get angry). This is about a woman mutilating a human being out of supposed revenge. What she did is unacceptable regardless. Since when it is acceptable to injure someone so they nearly bleed to death and are permanently disabled? The fact that he may or may not be guilty of some other crime only adds to how cruel and heinous this is. It does not justify her actions.

This is another perfect example of the patriarchy. And another example of how the patriarchy hurts men. I think what you see as "patriarchy" I see as just "reality". Reality is that men get sent to be killed in wars. Reality hurts men. At least this works for my trivial example.

If someone could make a logical argument have as coherent as mine Actually, seeing some of your arguments, I think it might be quite a struggle to write something half as coherent. It's always a patriarchy because....there's a patriarchy.

This is true. Anyone not willing to do what the description calls for wouldn't apply/agree, you would think, and if they did they'd be ruled out soon enough. I'm pretty sure this was a choice made by the advertiser. Something about appearing to be considerate to women's dignity or I dunno. The man isn't presented with dignity - he's a typical homer simpson "dumb man" picture with a "I'm stupid" Al Bundy look on his face, whereas the woman has her privacy, has no stupid look on her face, indeed, …

It's frustrating because I work with a woman who is an academic and has read every piece of literature published on feminist matters and could cite an academic source for every argument she could ever make regarding the patriachy. Any "prove it" would be met with a citation. If you tried to make an argument without an academic source it would be dismissed out of hand. In fact, as a man, pretty much any argument I could make would be dismissed out of hand simply because I am male. I have actually…
/r/MensRights19/05/11 12:19 AM

I can't really make that argument to a feminist though unless I can name a source to back it up. Do you have one?
/r/MensRights18/05/11 11:54 PM

No, I'm asking for proof that this isn't true. It's one of the most oft-repeated facts that feminists spout. I want to know what a counter-argument is when women make this argument. Or is this one of those things that's actually pretty true? I want to know.

A man may decide of his own free will to do something that happens to fit a gender role. Nothing wrong with gender roles in that scenario. But there is a distinction between gender roles and discrimination. When you force all men (and only men) to do something that happens to fit a gender role, that is discrimination, and there most definitely is something wrong with that.

Your dad has the exact same IQ as me. I can cook decently but I don't like it. IQ isn't a measure of cooking. Nor success in life, nor likeability. Of course. It probably does correlate with getting bullied in school I guess, but that's not really a benefit.
