What I think is more likely is that talented women interested in directing are discouraged to continue in that direction and/or less likely to get the job. A director needs authority and sometimes some people think women aren't as good at being authoritative.

Considering I know a couple of guys that used them for a short while just for a quick bump in progress and that I don't hang around the biggest guys, I'm not surprised at all.
