A different way to view it is of progressive levels of commitment: being exclusive is a lower level of commitment than being in a serious relationship. You are in that uncomfortable period of uncertainty. Personally I had to walk away from the man I had been seeing when we had been exclusive for a few months because he wasn’t ready for a serious relationship.
