As a guy, I want to see the same things most of you want: to be treated as a human being, not just as someone's stereotype of what a man is to them. I don't treat women violently or with disrespect, I try to lead other men by example to be the same. I don't appreciate it when anyone, male, female, whoever tries to imbue me with certain traits just because I'm a man.

I heard that in Los Angeles, the biggest/most popular gay bars were being inundated with drunk bachelorette parties. As a straight man, I find this so disrespectful - and they just think it's whee and wild. I can't think of many other places that are treated that way. When a person crosses social, cultural, economic dividing lines, I think it's important to recognize that you're doing it and to show some respect. I think most men (the guys I know, at least) understand, when you have a drink at a…

I like Galloway a lot, mainly because he puts the need to act on men, as opposed to blaming women. His advice to young men is good: go outside, develop yourself, work with others, get involved. As a teacher, I've worked with thousands of young people. His advice played out in real time in front of me for decades. I look at the left, the Democratic party, etc, and I don't see a lot of reasons for men and young men in particular to support those views. There is entirely too much blaming of men, ta…

I taught for 30+ years. As a man, I knew that I had to be very careful about so many things. I enjoyed the work (obviously), but I never forgot that I had to be vigilant about my words, my gestures and my reputation. I documented everything, every day, created paper trails for student behavior and attitudes. Kids took a run at me once in a while, but I was smart and lucky. Young men (and women) have asked me if they should consider becoming a teacher. I look at the salary charts. I look at AI's …

Being a teacher is hard, no matter the gender. However... Male teachers face a definite bias because of the image of teaching as a man. 'Why would he want to be around kids all day?' 'All he does is sit and talk and hand out tests!' and etc. I was one of the last male English teachers at my last school before I retired. I was successful and I loved my job - but if I had a behavior or attendance problem, it was perceived to be different from how it would have been perceived in a female teacher's …

It can be scary organizing or even discussing getting guys together, it seems/sounds like weakness. I'm trying to get guys together for ninja pothole-repair at night in my town and it's going to be a struggle. Loneliness is a killer.

It's heartbreaking. Men feel lost and alone. Even if you know you're worth something, the constant refrain of 'men deserve to be alone' and 'nobody cares, ha ha' can harden your heart.

I agree that that's probable; we'll never know. He sounds like the kind of person who I would have been friends with in college. Frankly, he sounds like me at that age. Not wanting to do anyone any harm, charitable, serious. And all of that is lost now. I wish he had had someone to talk to. It's so important to talk to your partner about what you're doing before and during sex. But afterwards, your partner can't suddenly decide 'no, even though I was into it then, I've had second thoughts and...…

And it leaves them wrecked in so many different ways. I know guys who were ruined by abuse and when I look back, I see how it affected me. I THINK I'm OK, I think I've learned to deal with the memory instead of just blocking it out for decades, but the price I paid. Fuck. . I've seen alcoholism, drug abuse, relationship issues, not being able to trust anyone completely - it can make it impossible for the victim to commit to anyone because of the shame. If there were a way to figure out who was l…

That's quite an assumption. In a better world, all of us would look out for the ones who need help. Men, women, everyone would stop sometimes and think 'what can I do to help this person?' and then do it. I can't make you desire or work to make things better, so I'll keep doing what I do. It works for me. Maybe what you're doing is working for you. Is it? Edit: I will say that, as a man, I get tired of people assuming that because I am a man, the only reason I am smiling or saying hello or askin…

I get what she's saying. It's not enough to avoid being abusive. You need to influence others to not be abusers. You need to make it clear that you are not going to just let it happen around you. And I don't support violence or abuse of men, or kids, or animals. And I think that if all men said 'this is not OK with me or around me and if I see it, I'm going to try to respond', we might have a better society.

Shit. Shit. Shit. I was screaming inside when I read this. Why can't we have a society, even ONE, where if this happened, the victim would know that he'd be heard and believed? And this isn't an issue of religion. This happens in every culture, every faith... Shit. Uncles. The uncles out there. We need to get down to the level of our nieces and nephews and tell them - if something happens to you, and you don't think you can tell anyone else? You can tell me, I will HEAR you. I agree, it looks so hard to meet someone in the actual flesh. You're working from home, earbuds in 99% of the time, a lot of people walk around in pajamas, etc. I don't know if 'the old days' method of getting up, getting dressed, going someplace outside your house Really listening to what people say and do and noticing them Going to places like concerts, museums, stores and smiling at people Was better. Im old enough to remember the transition. I did pretty well in the IRL days. However i wasn't trying to stack numbers, which seems like what a lot of guys are trying to do. Geez, guys. Perhaps it would be nice to actually like a girl before youre in there licking her butthole. Eh. Ive always thought of trophy hunters like that as sad cases. Ymmv. My wife knows that I should get a gift on V Day, not just a sexual 'treat'. She likes me enough to know that that sex is a gift we share. If your girl doesn't get you SOMETHING, an actual gift that shows how she feels about you and that she knows you, I gotta say, that's not cool.

I agree. It's not just 'mean girls' either. Some adults just assume that the boys involved in a situation are at fault and that they deserve to be punished. Boys have feelings, they aren't just little robots. There's a reason the male suicide rate is higher.

Marriage with the right person is so great. Being married makes me want to live longer. But if it's not the right person, something will always be missing. You can pretend, you can fool around - but it's going to be more difficult. It'll probably work, but it's better to wait for the right person.

Apres moi, le deluge. I'm a straight man and my number is higher (no ONS, no hookers) but I'd never reveal the true number to anyone. If I'm std-free and committed to being monogamous, why tell someone a piece of information that has nothing to do with who you are now? sheesh, I used to skateboard a lot. Doesn't mean I'm going to start busting-out kickflips. Being sexually active at that level was A LOT OF FUN. It was also fucking dangerous and caused a lot of heartbreak, but I survived and I am…

You make a good point. No, there's no zinger coming. If more people, more groups, more entire societies would be willing to periodically reexamine what they choose to do and why, the world would be a better place. Why don't we? Fear. Fear of what we might learn and what others might think about us.

Lotta prickly here, I've noticed. This is so true. So many men don't let themselves be seen as overwhelmed or just... down; they pretend or shut down. Having someone who loves you just wrap you up with love... I hope everyone reading this has that at the end of the day.

100%. You cannot calculate the effects of the trauma of this multiplied by HOW MANY BILLIONS OF MALE BABIES who greet the world with a fucking scream. I see it as child abuse. If you want the kids genitals to be clean, you GO IN AND CLEAN THEM. The female corrallary does not exist; parents have carefully, gently cleaned girls for millennia. Is this linked to differences in behavior? Hmm.

I am a teacher. This year, I have possibly The Laziest Boy I've Ever Seen in my class. His only use of energy is to try to stop the class with noises, whispers and other bullshit. I felt that. I was SO broke in my 20s. Any woman who was willing to be with me HAD to like me for me because THAT WAS ALL I HAD. That taught me a lot about personal worth and compassion. Today I'm giving out $, not tons, but more than I ever had back then. I'm giving it to people who just need it (don't ask how I found them). I've known my wife for... 34 years? Married for 11. What's worse is when people laugh at that shit. 'Oh, look, the woman is hitting that big guy! Ha ha ha!' Fuck that. Talk to her about it, you decide if he's there, if it's a family setting or not. NOT just you two, shit could get weird. I would never hit anyone for making a joke, Male or female. If they hit me like that? These fists are bisexual; equal rights and lefts. What young men don't know is how incredibly hard it is to find actual real friends after the age of, say, 40. I'm not talking about football watching buddies or strip club buddies. Real, moving bodies with you friends. My friends from my youth have all cracked up, either with health issues (mental or physical) or midlife crises. I have 1 friend. We have almost nothing in common except respect and trust. I see him maybe every 2 months. If I had access to this, would I go on the walks? I might.

Questions from a former bouncer: Why is he OUTSIDE THE VENUE? Why is he YELLING? That's not going to de-escalate, it's just going to cluster people until nobody can back down. Why is he GETTING SO CLOSE TO PEOPLE? There's a whole parking lot of people yelling at each other; maybe there was a fight earlier, but solve the problem and step the fuck back. I'm glad I did this job before cellphones. This guy is wide-open to a battery charge and civil action against the venue.

The problem is that it's unknown and will probably remain so. What did he do at the party ? If he attempted rape, well, that's awful, no question. Did he get physically forward with them? Still wrong but not at the same level of seriousness. I'd like to know. It doesn't matter though, does it ; the poor man is dead and can't speak for himself.

Sorry, that's not a debate. That's an occasion when Tuck gets to roll his eyes at some 'liberal' no one has ever heard of and Tuck gets to shoot him/her like a fish in a barrel. A political debate consists of two or more CANDIDATES who are COMPETING for votes, debating their plans and ideas in front of an audience of voters. Like I said, if Ben Shapiro wants a debate, he can register as a candidate next time (the deadline was April 12th). She's not obliged to respond to his request. People tend …

Can you please name any political candidate, male or female, who has ever gone into a debate with a non-candidate, just for shits and giggles? This isn't a pussy pass issue. The metaphor she used is accurate ; if some guy in the street yells 'heybabeewansumfuk' at a woman, is she obligated to respond? Now, if the same man follows a certain protocol - smile, introduce himself, show sincere intentions - the reaction might be different. If Ben wants to debate, his choices are clear: a. Pay the $300…

He's not running for office. She is, she has to frame her statements to fit the real world and policies she can stand for. He can afford to be a dilettante. Like any asshole without a kid can and will critique your parenting. If Ben wants to debate someone, he should run for office.

Well, 'farcical' is a bit of a misnomer. The Allies wanted a legal record of German offenses that could not be denied in good faith. They might not have been standard criminal trials, but they weren't unfair. Veit Harlan was tried twice, acquitted both times, and his own kids later said he was guilty of some support of the nazis.

As someone who worked as a bouncer in college, let me just say that most venues should have big ass signs at the entrances and over the bar: 'If you don't already know someone well enough to be intimate with their genitalia, now, tonight, while you're drunk, isn't a good time to get started. Grab a nipple? Squeeze a bum? That's an ejection.'

I had issues with my mom, but she has never said that the stuff I was interested in was stupid. She was scared about my climbing and dating redheads, but she didn't call it stupid. There's a difference, though, between a guy who smiles at a well-turned calf and the guy who points at her and yells "THE SOLUTION TO ALL YOUR PROBLEMS IS HERE IN MY PANTS, BITCH!" If a woman yells at a man for merely reacting to her beauty, well, to hell with her and that's uncalled for. But objectifying or making rude comments? Unacceptable, at least around me.
