The idea I think is that the men are presumed to be involved in the war and the women and children are not. It’s also considered bad for them to kill older men who wouldn’t be fighting

So there is a wage/salary benefit to not staying home with kids, there are benefits in certain male dominated high end professions, there are other structural reasons for the wage gap. This is something where there isn’t a simple answer. It’s all about the details. When you get down to it, it’s about discrimination which is fucking rampant - and it’s in all these different directions at once... so the “wage gap” is at the same time a cause and an effect, while being both true and false on its face. In the USA I think it’s commonly understood that parental leave is for both moms and dads and is guaranteed 12 weeks of unpaid time. But it does not apply to everyone. For example it didn’t apply to me as I hadn’t had my job an entire year yet. Also doesn’t apply to small companies.

I’ve been through this custody thing as a man and - it’s horrible. It’s also highly variable and completely corrupt. Their main goal is to make everyone miserable and take everyone’s money.
