They have a stronger and larger group, if a population has women that are able to fight and won't hurt survival needs, why not? Someone above made the point it's easy to make weapons designed for women, which would most likely be faster (though lighter) then what a man would use. I think it's fair to say the women could shoot bows and hunt, the men wouldn't leave them defenseless. I doubt women were in physical melee combat, women are weaker then men, it's something science can prove, but I have no doubt that if the women had to defend their homes or the men needed archers they would go. Even if the women didn't have as much power as the men, they were clearly respected in all regards of the culture. The men didn't just grab a women and take her to bed, the desire to be together had too be mutual not just what the one with a penis wanted.
