sure, but even if it theoretically doesn't stop the infection at all( altough multiple studies show that the transmission rate is reduced a bit), it can stop the effects of the infection you'd probably be fine if you're young and healthy, but why take the chances when you have an alternative? the long term consequences are not known very well and the loss of smell and taste, chronic fatigue, insomnia that many have experienced even months after the infection doesn't sound too good either...
