Signing up for the military literally involves relinquishing certain rights for the time that you serve. I’m no fan of the military, I hate war, I am on the left politically, and I support bodily autonomy for all - so I hate to say that your comment sounds crazy, but it does. I wouldn’t normally care about dumb comments on Reddit, but it is increasingly easy for the right to point at comments like yours to point out how out of touch the left is.

Astronauts. If we really wanted our humans in space to represent our humans on earth, then NASA astronauts should only be about 4% of all people working in space. Dude, I’m certainly not against poorer people (of which I am one) getting ahead. And if “the research” shows it will be spent on essentials, and not frivolous bullshit, great. I feel comfortable saying I’m more progressive or to the left than most people, but UBI is not some magic bullet and I think it’s smart to be skeptical.

This is all so true. I worked with a guy that worked on the Bachelorette. His role was to basically help supervise and chaperone the bachelors around, go buy them kombucha in the middle of the night, and basically record and photograph everything they said or did. Reminds me of my brother. Joined the Marines at 19, discharged after Basic Training for a bad back. He got free surgery for his bad disc, got fat and lazy playing video games and “working on his photography” instead of his physical therapy, and has been calling himself a “veteran” ever since. Gets all the perks of being a military veteran even though he didn’t even make it through AIT. I just cringe whenever he casually mentions to people that he’s a Marine.
