No. It's culture wars bullshit based off cynically cooking the data to generate alarmist headlines. If you look at the numbers, guys are still more liberal than previous generations. The numbers say "more conservative COMPARED TO WOMEN" because women are very likely to adhere to every progressive cause.

Most social media networks are heavily female dominated, so they're basically all the virtual equivalent of cocktail venting sessions.

I feel like the same thing happened with Adolescence last year. People are never going to sympathize with socially awkward men - it's just never going to happen.

What the fuck are you talking about? Where in my comment did I say ANYTHING about women?

I think he's just another fucking elite LARPing as a poor person, personally. I find it embarrassing people are willing to elect a dude cuz he posts a slo-mo video of him swinging a medicine ball between his legs.

I don't think things are centralized enough for it to work anymore, either. Cancel mobs only worked because everybody was on Twitter.

You're proving the point: you have to remember specifics about a symbol from WW2. I know a lot about history and wouldn't have known. You don't know the freaking logo of the SS?

I understand your reticence around this topic as it's currently practiced. Historically, leftism predominantly concerned itself with labor rights, which disproportionately effects men.

We should also absolutely not be breeding that instinct out. We don't need to be more domesticated than we already are.

Evolutionary psychology is counterproductive to our liberation as men. You can only become so liberated, though. We can't be liberated from Oxygen or calories, for example.

Clearly something is going wrong somewhere for there to be such a huge difference between the sexes. One can get pregnant. The other can't. Many differences are downstream of that fact.

I think it's a bit tough to totally untangle. For a long time, one of my closest friends was a sorta newage hippy-type woman who was constantly encouraging me to walk away from society and put my faith in the universe. She was a moderately attractive white woman in her late 20s or early 30s, so her experience of hitchhiking and homelessness was to get to a gas station, stand there with a cardboard sign saying she was broke or out of gas, when she had a vehicle. It was not uncommon for her to mak…

Menslib is a feminist-approved men's space and it's every bit as useless and depressing as that sounds. Which is ironic, because feminists still assume it's as "toxic" as this space.
/r/MensRights18/02/26 12:16 PM

They won't post content that's critical of feminism in any way, which takes out A LOT. They also won't allow any discussion of anything involving dating or romance, which is the area where a lot of gender discourse play out. It's basically become a space where women tell men how to be.
/r/MensRights18/02/26 12:15 PM
11

I honestly think the fact that virtually every role in all media being played by people who are supermodel levels of hot is a not-insignificant factor in how fucked up everybody is. It wasn't that uncommon to see normal-looking people in movies and television even in the 90s.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/01/26 07:12 PM

That's exactly what I'm saying! There may be certain biological factors that emphasize using social tools and manipulation to get their way, also (think this could be a fascinating thing to study, but I'm not going to hold my breath). I try and explain to people that assuming women are wonderful is as sexist as assuming they can't do math, but no one wants to hear it.

Those types of comments actually reaffirm my belief in feminism, as in all genders are equal. Women are people and people often fucking suck. It turns out women are just as prone to female chauvinism as dudes were when they exclusively ran the show. I feel like we're heading into a genderflipped Mad Men-style world but with female execs.

Unfortunately, I'll never be able to prove it, but I'm convinced a handful of my teachers from preschool through Grade 12, all of whom were women, were prejudiced against little boys.

To be honest, I'm going to have to go back and check my notes before I can answer definitively, as there's a vast body of writing out there. In the meanwhile, my only concern with your framing is that it's veering into "No True Scotsman" territory, where you can just dismiss inconvenient attitudes and approaches to feminism, pretending they don't exist. I have yet to see a feminist university course or degree or government body that pushes back against the oppressor/oppressed dichotomy. But, as …

not fixed moral roles Sort of. Suppose a man willingly and knowingly gets a women pregnant and then leaves the woman for the duration of the pregnancy or the first several years of infancy. How would you morally describe someone like that?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/01/26 11:32 PM

Once again you’re pointing out exactly why I am against binary thinking. Unfortunately, one of the sexes tend to be physically stronger and more aggressive than the other. The other can get pregnant and can be taken out of circulation for possibly years at a stretch. So I think some of these binaries are fairly baked in.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/01/26 07:50 AM

wouldn’t we also have to discard things like evolutionary psychology because of how red pill spaces misuse it? Of course! That's also non-falsifiable nonsense!
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/01/26 07:29 AM
6

It seems to me that what you’re mainly criticizing is the oppressor–oppressed framework, rather than feminism as a whole… Again, virtually every flavor of feminism is all in on this framing. Men-as-a-Class are the oppressors. Women-as-a-Class are the oppressed. This is central to Patriarchy theory. I've never known a single woman, feminist or otherwise, to argue against patriarchy theory.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/01/26 07:28 AM
6

I've never seen a single feminist push back on the Marxist/postmodern framework. Virtually every wave of feminism has wholeheartedly embraced this framing, at this point.

That's really not the critique against porn. The critique is that it's a hideously abusive, exploitative industry that takes advantage of young and marginalized people so men can get their dicks wet, which is scummy as fuck.

Marriage tends to come with a lot of benefits, both financial and cultural. If you eliminated the legal benefits of marriage, you'd be depriving married people of those benefits.

There's been an intense focus on men's behavior for almost 50 years, while women haven't gotten the same instruction. I suspect the "men are all sex-crazed horndogs that want it all the time" has dramatically ramped up in the last 25 years, too.

Yeah, life has always been isolating, It really hasn't been, though. Was fairly easy to meet people and make friends even 15 years ago.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates16/05/25 11:02 PM
5

That could be. People do tend to mis-use the concept all the time. And I'd say even the majority of appeals to Classical thought, particularly lately, are really just coded conservative philosophies, which I'm not at all down with. It just means to pick the right emotion for the right situation. Sometimes the right response is to cry. Sometimes it's to punch someone. Both of those are sometimes unpopular, but we're not here to please other people all the time.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates25/01/25 02:07 AM

But that's not how this person was using it. They were clearly referencing the classical tradition and a bunch of people jumped down their throat.

Blurting out "fuck you! go fuck yourself!" at your boss when you're feeling upset is often a poor idea and is a great way to end up homeless. We should all be working out ways to self-regulate to som extent.

Do spaces for men exist anymore? Not really, no. That's not really been a thing anywhere I've been anytime in my lifetime (born in 80). For me, the answer is music and special interests (movies and books). If there's any kind of live music where you are, go to shows and hang out. You won't know anyone at first. That's fine. Hang about and eventually people will begin to recognize you. If you're more outgoing, you could introduce yourself. If not, someone more extroverted may strike up a conversa…

You're not allowed to criticize feminism on that sub, which often involves the actions of people who identify as feminist. I'm pretty sure at least one of the mods over there is a woman, too. They seem to still be adhering to the progressive stack, too, which means that other progressive causes are more important and need to be addressed first.

It's possible. After 2001, the war very much was on people's minds, though. A draft wouldn't be unfeasible, which is always going to be existentially threatening when you literally have to sign up for it when you turn 18.

Unfortunately, feminisms a big damn tent and arent great about policing their own. So while feminism is about equality, second-wave feminists who believe that men should be given curfews and that all women should convert to political lesbianism are ALSO feminist.

Seem to be some pretty polarized views on gender over there.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates10/04/24 01:52 AM

I said as much in my reply, but from my understanding its well-documented. Men have to do a mandatory term in the military service, which they feel puts them behind women in life. Gender roles have been shit for women for a long time, too, and theyre not having it anymore, leading to a pretty aggressive feminist movement. For a time, their marker was a sort-of tiny dick hand gesture, which made the men lose their minds. And now its just full-on animosity between all sides, from what ive heard.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates10/04/24 01:19 AM

This is one of the things i never see discussed. I was a pretty nerdish kid, constantly reading and daydreaming. On top of that, I was raised by my mom, too, who greatly emphasized politeness, all of which got me pigeonholed as most likely queer, at best, and an official girl at the most extreme.

Varieties of reasons. One that I'm passionate about is the rather shallow interpretation of "male privilege" that is often used online. Basically, some of those privileges are only available to a very, very small subset of men. So if you're a GNC man, you lose many of those privileges quickly and they can even be used against you. Plus, fair is fair and I can't stand double standards.

That's similar to my experience, as well, and i'm super glad you had all those experiences. I have much better interactions with BIPOC about these sorts of things. We'll see what happens but i suspect we're going to see some more nuanced conversations around privilege. Like, this year, feel like white women are starting to fall under the scrutiny of other groups, due to BLM and some other things that have been going on. Agreed! My GF is exceptionally progressive as well. She lives in LA and is half native and Latinx and grew up poor, too. She's also closer to my age, early 40s, and it's just a bit easier to get on the same page about stuff. I have an easier time hearing about some hard issues from members of marginalized communities, as well, turns out. Often by bonding activities. "Side-by-side activities" rather than "eye contact." So, to use a stereotypical example, two male buddies go fishing. An hour in, sitting next to one another, perhaps sitting quietly or just bullshitting and one buddy might drop, "O, me and Sandra just learned she's infertile." And then the other buddy responds in a number of ways. "Oh, shit, that's messed up? How you guys holdin' up?" or maybe they make a joke, try to cheer their friend up. Or share a story from the…

It's relatively simple. Notice in all of the statements you've written above. They're all written in the abstract. Stop thinking of girls and women as a category and start thinking of them as people. I know, it's tempting to make generalizations. In my experience and observation, the human mind really doesn't like uncertainty and complexity very much. And the reality that we're essentially guessing and hoping for the best in basically every human interaction, for our entire lives, is frustrating…

Absolutely! For one, conversation is foreplay for me. For two, am like hyper-cerebral, so i'm always researching new ideas and topics, so things aren't going to go well if my partner doesn't at least understand that. For three, intelligence increases the odds of being able to think critically. In this knee-jerk, reactionary world where people toss around opinions like they're facts and you're not even allowed to question narratives, yr going to run into some problems if you can't discuss issues …

Am conjecturing a bit, as we're still in the middle of this shift. While a lot of the gendered roles and expectations have shifted, the more classical romantic expectations have not. Many women (speaking of the women I've known personally, and encounter online, so as to not make unrealistic, scoping generalizations) still expect signs of devotion to be romantically interested, i.e. flashy jewelry, vacations and, at the very least, fun nights on the town. Whomever they are dating will be expected…

Yeah, exactly. and i'm mostly a musician and writer. and my tastes lean towards the more experimental, so it shouldn't be a major issue. If i had my way, i'd get to something like the level of Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth (minus the infidelity.) He's pretty well-known, but he can probably go about his life in peace, as well, from time to time. But i'm willing to do whatever it takes to make a decent living as an artist. If that means signing autographs when i'm in my PJs, so be it!

Same here. Which is a bit of a conundrum as someone who's into making shit and putting it out there into the world. But, with my pretty abstract sensibilities, i'm imagining this isn't going to be TOO much of a problem! And when it is, maybe i'll just wear a mask when i leave the house?

I'd go just a little bit farther and suggest that masculinity is related to yrself. Like, there were no women around when i was dangling by my fingertips off a cliff's edge, despite having no rock climbing/mountaineering experience. And the opinion of the friend i was with didn't factor in too much, at that moment, as i was too busy not dying. But when i got back on solid ground, THAT was a proof, to myself, of my masculinity. To me. Likewise, i used to work manual labor jobs for a long time. I …

Simply speaking from my own, and many people i know's, experience. And it can be, but many people certainly don't treat it that way, especially these days. Mainly thinking of my current partner. I've watched her burn through so many relationships before we were together, fucking like animals for a year until realizing she doesn't even like these people.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/03/19 10:33 PM

For one, when relationships go into the sexual zone, they have a tendency to stay that way. People who start sleeping together have a tendency to keep that going. That, combined with the hormone rush of being in a new relationship, means that people tend to screw like rabbits in the early phases of their relationship (ye "honeymoon phase.") This means that, if you haven't known them that long, that they have a tendency to just always default to having sex whenever they're hanging out. They don't…

More women, actually. Reinforced by the numbers, as well as my, and most people i know's, anecdotal experience. Of a survey of 4,062 poly individuals, 49.5% identified as women while 35.4% identified as men. Then of course there was that story in The Atlantic that published just yesterday that talks about how women get bored and restless much more quickly in a monogamous relationship than men do. Of the many, many people I know in open and poly relationships, the guys always seem perfectly conte…

i agree. (and good advice.) It's just that my voice can raise, at times, when i'm feeling heated or passionate, which is then construed as being "too angry." It's gotten to where i have to police not only the content of what i'm saying, but also the tone in which it's delivered.
/r/RedPillWomen29/01/19 05:55 AM

That's very reassuring to hear! I'm in Portland, so not too dissimilar here, most likely. I know there's a ton of boundary-pushing people out there (i love tons of more masculine women, as well!) but we're kind of hard to find. Good to know that people like us exist!

And that confidence requires not letting it get to you when half of the world's population very regularly tell you you are awful, simply for existing. I am one of these gender-bending Bowie types, who also happens to have a pretty masculine disposition, despite the fact that I like to read and am into fashion. So that means you catch shit from the more bro-ey types and "alpha" male. Most of the time, I just feel like the entire world hates me. Yet i'm insane and solipisistic to still have confid…

This is part of what makes this all so difficult. I'm a guy in a LTR with a woman in her 20s. In all of our daily interactions, we're super egalitarian. I've got to be super careful about pretty much everything i say and do, or we'll get in a big argument. But she's also sexually attracted to really hot-blooded men. So i try to show my more masculine side, only to be told i'm too angry or intense or something. I think guys are starting to fall under the pressures to be it all, have it all, and d…

I was legitimately, explicitly, literally told not to cry at my Dad's funeral (edit: by my Aunt.) when I was 9. Told I needed to "be strong for my Mom and my Sister," and that I was the "Man of the house now." Didn't shed another tear for another 8 years.

You are a true inspiration, and thank you so much for writing and sharing this! You've said eloquently what I've struggled to find words for, for some time. I think you've absolutely got it in one, here. That's exactly how i've felt most of my life = hated on all sides. Can confirm this, also. In the '80s, doing anything vaguely 'un-masculine' (which also includes talking and reading) made you a "fag." It made me much, much tougher, as well. And I also learned to fend for myself, and also NOT FIT IN - took to wearing all black and standing out like a sore thumb. Basically painted a bulls' eye on my forehead, but fuck them. It also toughened me up for life, but I have a tendency to hate absolutely everybody, as an adult.

I had a very similar experience. Was told to basically sit still and silent, even after my work was done. I would finish work 10x faster than my class, as well. Sitting motionless for an hour for a 7 year is almost impossible. Got me labelled "a troublemaker" which I never shook, despite going to great lengths to apply myself and be kind to as many people as possible, even the teachers who seemed to hate me and the bullies who made my life a living hell for 13 years.

Yeah, I didn't fully think about the top text of this poster. Kind of negates the positive message they're going for. Divisiveness isn't going to get any of us anywhere. I truly wish there were a way where the good qualities of male-identifying individuals could be appreciated. I appreciate women all the time, for all of their myriad contributions to making this world a better place. Have just felt rather invisible for so long. Hear what everyone's saying about this being an anecdotal video and not much use as an actual study, but can confirm this by my own experience. While I was never homeless for very long, and I've never been very good at eye contact or engaging people, I very nearly died. Barely ANY sympathy. Some nice folks gave me a little bit of food, as they assumed I'd spend the money on drugs and alcohol (I'm sober, fwiw.) I actually WAS trying to raise money for food, so that was okay by me. My lady friends…

Sorry this is happening to you. Pretty true where i live, too. It kind of sucks as i feel like this kind of thing, while maybe even also trying to empower/represent other voices, is also solely due to marketing. Like how many #whitemalepower campaigns are we seeing? (Well, there probably are some, but probably not great spokespeople.) Whereas #blackgirlmagic is totally valid, as pointing out subcategories are totally valid.
