I went through a similar (not as severe) experience in university. I went off the pill at 21 and never took it again. My mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer and her oncologist casually recommended to me that I stay off HBC. I got copper IUD and was diligent with condom use and never had an issue (other than gut-wrenching IUD period cramps). While on it, the pill killed my libido and made me very depressive and tearful. My mood swings were off the charts - the only other time I've felt l…

I don't care about material things but at the same time I am a girl and sometime a surprise would be nice. These two statements are vaguely contradictory.

You can't ask for surprises, gifts or "opening up" emotionally. These are things that happen when the other person feels generous, grateful or safe to be vulnerable. I'd recommend that you praise him for the things he does that you like, with the hope that this will inspire him to do more of these things for you. "I was looking at the ____ you bought me for ___, and I love it so much. It made me feel so lucky to have such a thoughtful and generous bf, I love you so much." Men generally want to m…

Yes my skin is oily. I don't get ingrowns on areas I shave regularly since the hair is thicker and pushes through fine. I tried waxing a few times and it was a nightmare. I try to exfoliate 1-2 times per week which really helps, but I couldn't exfoliate my face as much as was needed to curb crazy hair growth so I got pimples. My face hair is peach fuzz and I don't wear face makeup anyway so I was like what the hell am I doing and quit.

I tried this earlier this summer and I won't do it again. If you have the type of skin that gets ingrown hairs (like me) you're in a world of zits two weeks later.

I have a weird variant of this situation: my husband works 24hr shifts and comes home in the morning just as I'm leaving to my 9-5 job. Since I have 24 hours before he comes home I can get big things done for him like grocery shopping, cooking so he has leftovers to eat and doing laundry so he has clean clothes and linens. Since he's always super tired when he gets home I always have fresh sheets and the bed made so he can crawl in to bed if he needs a nap. I wipe down the bathroom for him so it…

How about next time you have to go to one of these events and you know the ex is going to be there, you bring a girl friend (obviously let her in on the idea) and introduce her to your ex. This might buffer the male intensity a bit and provide some diversion for your ex's advances. It would also take the spotlight off you since you are the shared interest of both your SO and the ex. Its been said already but I'm pretty sure if you completely, but politely, ignored your ex he would get the messag…

I see a lot of drama at work (environmental regulations). My guilty pleasure is listening to the Dr. Laura show on satellite radio in my car on the way home from work. Some of the callers are so effed! I like her no bs approach, her motherly wisdom though I don't agree with everything she says. I also love hearing about my husband's work social scene - he is a firefighter so there's no shortage of interesting 911 calls and firehall drama.

We agreed that if i can get assigned to the office closest to our house that I would take the job and commute until such time as it gets to be too much for whatever reason. We can use the extra cash and I'm not pregnant yet. Since I am old it may take a long time to get pregnant, and we agreed it doesn't make sense to pass up this opportunity based on hypothetical kids. We will use the money to buy a better commuter car and buy a new house if we find one. We are scanning the housing market for a…

Hahaha, 2005 model. We haven not done a good job about navigating these waters, for sure. Throughout this process though we have come out of each fight loving eachother more. At 32, I can't really wait much longer to get pregnant, especially since we want more than one chaos lord. Based on what I've learned from this post this should be my focus since it is the one thing that, as you said, is forever. It feels really nice to have some clarity and direction on this, and feeling supported here by …

Yes I did choose this. Inititally I thought it would be better for us if he was in charge of finances since I thought he would feel emasculated if I was. But we are going to change that up. He says he hates doing bills and banking and would be happier if I did it. He also said he thought I would be much better at it ;)

Bigups on this point of seeing my husband's true priorities. Yesterday was the first time he actually said out loud "I want you to be a SAHM, I want you to raise our kids free of worrying about a job." In the city job I'd be on track to be surpassing his income in under 5 years. For him it's not about the money, clearly. For me I think this is about turning away from my upbringing and towards the life I want to share with my husband and forge anew for ourselves.

I really appreciate this point. I think I'm hyper-aware of the demands of being a mother, just not experienced. My husband keeps telling me that I can't plan for everything, that I need to go with the flow in terms of having a baby. I know I want to stay home until they go to school, which I would be able to do with a combination of maternity leave and earned deferred leave while working this new/old job. I hate the idea of scrambling around and not giving my job my full attention. I like how yo…

Thank you again for your detailed reply. I've been thinking about it over the weekend and I think there have been a lot of assumptions made here about me and our relationship. Not that that kind of thing isn't expected since I couldn't possibly give the detailed background that would be required to avoid it. My husband is from the city; he grew up there. When we moved to the country it was his first time living rurally as well. I am close to his family, we see them at least once per week. His mo…

I currently work in a water-related role. I do surface water and groundwater sampling, as well as regulations stuff. I do like my job here even though the pay isn't much, I just wish I could translate it to a permanent position for all the reasons listed above. I live in Canada so we don't have Army Corp of Engineers, but they do amazing things. Thank you for the suggestions.

BSc Forestry, MSc Ecology. Not exactly geared for working at home. Though I am looking into options doing consulting.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I will try to answer your questions below. You've given me a lot to think about and I appreciate so much your perspective. Can you please clarify a few points? > I randomly got a job near the house, so I left my city job with a heavy heart You had a full-time job in the city that you loved, why/how did you 'randomly' get a job near the house? He found a job posting and sent it to me saying "wouldn't hurt to apply, at least get your name in their ear" wh…

He is opposed because he wants to stay living full time in the country. He is also opposed to the idea of me commuting. It would affect his life by having me out of the house for longer if commuting, or having to rent a place in the city.

There is a lot of scientific literature stating that some meat is bad for you. Recently, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer published a report that the consumption of processed meats increase the risk of certain cancers (article here). There are also numerous environmental benefits to consuming less meat.

As a fellow woman of the woods, I encourage you to follow your passion. As long as you keep your femininity in check (which it sounds like you will) you will find no shortage of men who are into your outdoorsy self. As for on-the-job advice, I have a few tips: be competent and knowledgeable, avoid appearing like a pushy know-it-all. be a good driver, learn how to drive (and park) a big truck. learn how to maintain your own equipment. I don't know what you're using but learn the basics of whateve…

Just having someone come in once or twice a month will help. Pay them to do the deep cleaning which will eventually accumulate and overwhelm you. Maybe once the big stuff is taken care of (windows, scrubbing, etc.) it won't seem like such an insurmountable mess and your family can focus on daily chores such as laundry and dishes etc. Of just pay for someone to come in a few times to get it under control and then get your family on a chore schedule so it doesn't happen again. Laundry does pile up…

My brother has a similar situation to yours. He had an LTR with a woman who was an evangelical Christian. She was a beautiful, law school-bound varsity athlete. It was his longest relationship to date because he really liked the good-girl, family-oriented traditional values she had, her smarts and looks. Her religious values were in sync with his RP mindset. But my brother and I were raised atheist and her religion became a huge problem in their relationship. She was tolerant of our family's non…

A really important thing the link doesn't address is how your mood impacts how you look. Smiling, laughing, having a good time (or at least looking like it!) make you look good. As this article points out: funny people are smart, and smart is sexy!

From what you describe it certainly sounds like he's thinking about it. But I would say just keep doing what you're doing and enjoy the relationship as it is, instead of squirreling about how and when it will progress. Don't worry about acting nervous and giddy - that just shows that you are excited at the prospect of marrying this guy you love! I used to get flustered when my bf would allude to our life together when we were dating (we just got married this summer). We never had the type of rel…
