But here are my replies. 1) None of these people are working on wall street? Well, I am. So that makes one of us. But you're right that you need a degree from a top 20 b-school (which I have) to get in the door, most of the time. It is also true that an entry level analyst at GS isn't an "investing shark," though I'm not entirely sure that I was getting at that. 2) This is true, finance is client based. There is a lot of sacrifice in the finance world. The process is extremely fake and you have to really put on a facade to do well with interviews and the like. I went through a TON of interviews before finding a job I'm actually excited for. As you get practice, you'll get better at networking. If someone gives you that face, don't let it affect you. If you ask them questions about what they do, they'll automatically light up because people love talking about themselves. The interview process will be more or less the same, but you'll often times be asked to code something and explain your logic. They don't really care if you're wrong (unless you have no idea what you're doing) as long as you can explain your thought process since programming is very much problem-solving. Time will tell (for me, at least) but from the ones I know, most have a good balance.
