Today I am making homemade pizza (because the store was sold out entirely) since it's my husband's birthday! Tomorrow is chocolate cream pie for my dad because his birthday was last week. ​ edit: my pizzas are coming out of the oven and they are GORGEOUS. Had to tell y'all because everyone else thinks i'm crazy.

I just started reading a book called, The Brave Learner, it's on Amazon and available as a kindle ebook. Great read about homeschooling. Also there's a fantastic reading list at Barbara Oakley's Reading List. She is one of the co-author's of the world's largest online class about skills for learning. Her reading list encompasses more than just homeschooling. She also recommends books about other topics but her focus is on the broken education system in the US (and elsewhere), and homeschooling.

Personally... I got really sick of the rhetoric from the far left here in the US surrounding the roles of women and men, and thought there must be a different way of looking at things. I’ve been a lot happier with my role as a wife and mother since thinking in a more RPW way.

We have light wood floors but I think some advice goes for all hardwood. I think the most important part is to keep it swept clean and free of debris. Small debris wears the floor and makes it look dull. I use Bona hardwood floor spray and a swiffer pad after doing that. If there is some caked on crud, I don't know what to do about that honestly. But the first two things do keep it pretty nice.

I got a great response there about plants, and Etsy for candles, and if anyone else has anything to add, I’m all ears! I’ll start: in the evening I turn the lights to ambient levels by turning off the overhead lights and using lamps with warm hued bulbs. I actually use a large scrubbing brush with plastic bristles, dish soap, and I do it while I shower.... I use borax on the tub floor when it gets grimy with soap scum, and then wash with dish soap. It works really well and I don't worry as much about cleaning product residue when my toddler gets in there and puts his mouth on everything.

So many great ideas in this thread. For me: I really want to find an outdoor activity that I actually enjoy and crave doing. I like being outside and active but fitting that into a daily or weekly schedule is a struggle for me, but I hate running which seems like the obvious choice. Maybe something I can try each month is doing one activity, like taking a walk every day, and then the next month try something else every day until I find something I like. These are such great ideas. I'm really curious about your peeling regimen - since you go to a spa, do the staff create a schedule for you to come back to make sure you are going often enough/ not too often? I like doing peels at home but it seems like I get excited and burn my face from doing it too often, or never do it. I could really benefit from a pro telling me when to come back.

I got asked at a stop light by a guy in the car next to me if I needed a husband, I told him “I’ve got one, thanks!” Seemed pretty harmless to me and honestly pretty funny. Does anyone take him up on that offer? I think that and maybe one other time in my life I’ve been “catcalled” although I’m not even sure the above qualifies

This is basically our plan too, and I think you make a lot of very valid points about homeschooling - there are a lot of misconceptions about it, that I think are easily overcome. OP, have you tried searching for homechooling co-ops in your area? I think you might be surprised at what you find. There is even one in my area that has a building and they provide classrooms for instruction and even a gym for sports! And there are meetups for homeschool families to go to the park together, to museums…

OP, I really hope you look at the comment made above and consider it carefully. Something else to think about: I think it's great you're staying involved but I think you're assuming that your child is going to come home one day and explicitly tell you, "Today in school we learned that men are bad!" or "We learned that capitalism is bad!" and that you'll be able to address that and correct it easily when in reality the subtext is so subtle and you don't even realize and your child doesn't realize…

Thank you for the info! No disrespect - they are not a group of people I admire. I think most of the reason they teach is so they get summers off. Great reason, right? Not a bad idea to just keep it a secret!! I had not even considered that but I think that may be what I do. I've got some books I have been trying to make time to read: The Coddling of the American Mind, Dumbing Us Down, Seven Myths about Education, and also The One World Schoolhouse!! Hoping to educate myself to help my kid.

Adding on to this, write notes in your cookbooks! If one dish was stellar with a certain side or a different spice, make a note of that. If one dish was a ton of work for a lame payoff, write that down too.

Adding onto this, the victorinox knives are quite good and about 30$. An America’s Test Kitchen cookbook (there are several) will give you a lot of suggestions for good quality equipment and tried and true recipes.
