Yes! Also, with as pressured as women are to become perfect sexual objects as soon as possible, it's not bad or wrong to just be a kid. There's nothing wrong with being 18 and still growing and trying to figure out how the world works. You don't have to force yourself to be older and ready for more than you actually are. I was always so defensive about being considered immature when I was younger, like it was an insult. But teens are supposed to be immature. Growing up too fast comes at a high c…

Yep. I was smart and ambitious, so I always felt like I had more in common with older men. I could intellectually keep up with them, so I believed I was on their level and that there wasn't a power gap. But cognitive ability and emotional maturity are two completely different things. Even intelligent, conscientious 18-year-olds are still kids, even if they're legally adults.

I’ve gone out with a couple of doctors and have found them to be generally cold and emotionally distant. Aside from the fact that most of them have almost no free time, I’ve noticed they also don’t feel like they need to put in as much effort.

Also, don’t ever tell a man if you have mental health problems. He’ll use it as a weapon to dismiss any grievances you might have.

Yep. This. I went out with an attractive pediatrician — obviously a great catch on paper — who took me on an hour-long “date” where we each paid for our respective coffees. We had so little to talk about that we spent half the time discussing fucking Taco Bell lmao. Apparently I was like his 20th Hinge date in six months. Was not impressed.

I don’t date men who constantly go on first dates. It’s a red flag and really common on OLD. Plenty of guys, especially on Hinge, claim to want “something serious,” tell themselves treating women like a Pandora station you can flip through is the way to get it, and wonder why they spend years on these apps. Dude should be invested and excited to spend time with me, specifically, not just a woman. “I don’t have any expectations” and “who knows if we’ll click in person?” is an automatic rejection …

I think the error a lot of women make is trying to determine what the “right” amount of texting/hanging out/attention looks like. A lot of women who are “clingy” in relationships are that way because their partner doesn’t meet their needs, so they feel like they need to fight for every scrap of attention they can get and have been gaslit into thinking the problem is with them being fundamentally unlovable, too much, or not enough. Don’t do a frantic analysis of some dude’s behavior trying to det…

This reads like fanfiction to me. “Schizophrenia”? Come on.

My ex beat the shit out of me. He choked me, kicked me when I was on the floor, punched me repeatedly in the stomach, hit me in the face, and dug his nails deeply enough into my cheeks to break the skin. He threatened to kill me, which I thought he might actually do, and told me he wished I’d been raped more as a child. He also wouldn’t let me leave that night, and I had to sneak out when he finally fell asleep. He constantly complained about “female privilege” and how I “abused” it by having ba…

My ex beat the shit out of me and threatened to kill me when he was drunk because I left a wedding we were attending at 10 PM. I woke up covered in bruises, and I got to hug and console him and reassure him he wasn’t a bad guy for what he did. A couple of hours later, he was defending himself.

Going against the grain here. Tinder is great if you are a conventionally attractive woman and know what you’re doing. Everyone is on Tinder, so you’ll have a bigger selection — that means more trash to weed through, but also a lot of HVM. I’m 5’7” and 26. My experience using OLD 5 years ago at 180# is drastically different than it is now at 130#. Granted, this may just be a cultural shift over time and generally matching with an older crowd, but I attribute quite a lot of this the weight loss. …

I’ve been a magnet for dipshits my entire adult life. Got out of a physically abusive relationship over the summer, then got back on the dating scene only to find myself being toyed with and used by fuckboys over and over again. I’m 26, thin, have modeled professionally, good job, and generally have my shit together, but I started to wonder whether the problem was me not being “wife material.” After yet another fuckboy promised me the moon and the stars and then slow-faded after I put out, I’d f…

Haha, over 10k upvotes. Of course. You’d better believe these yuppie, 25-35-year-old male Redditors are in your DMs on OLD: men who either can’t or don’t care to structurally analyze their way out of a paper bag, and think it’s Enlightened™ and Brave™ to say holding those in power responsible for systemic, epidemic assault is the same thing as gaslighting black people. Next time you’re feeling lonely for male validation, remember: would you rather spend your days in peace, or coddling the feelin…

I am 5’7” and don’t want to date men shorter than me. Went out with a guy once who claimed he was my height. I was on the fence about it, but the connection seemed great and he was otherwise very attractive. Dude was not a hair above 5’5”. I could see over his head. I don’t understand the deception. It’s everyone’s prerogative to have standards. Do guys who are short or secretly have kids think they can charm me into not caring once the truth inevitably comes out? At this point, I just mentally …

I just wear amber oil. You can get it for like $8 at Whole Foods. It’s subtle and not overpowering — it’s not too sweet/doesn’t smell like a high school locker room, but it’s gently warm. I find it goes well with vanilla.

Yep. More than one hat pic means bald or balding. No full-body shots means fat, short, or both. All front-angle shots means weak jawline.

My favorite is “gotta be brutally honest, I am attached.” As if they deserve some kind of praise for being virtuous enough to tell you they’re cheating on their wives instead of using you like a breathing fleshlight under the pretense of being single. It’s the “Diet Coke and a pizza” of OLD. I don’t know if this is better or worse than the hordes of married men claiming to be “ethically” non-monogamous on Tinder.

I feel like they get considerably better as I get older (I’m 26), but yeah, the vast majority of sex I’ve had has been awful.

I don’t, but I’d love to know who they are, because that sounds spot-on.

We live in a world where virtually everyone has access to their phone 24 hours a day. Texting is incredibly low effort. It takes ten seconds of typing on a screen that you’re probably using anyway. If a man isn’t texting you within a full DAY and he hasn’t made you fully aware of the reason why, it’s because he doesn’t want to. I will never understand why this is so difficult for people to wrap their heads around.

Narcissistic traits are a spectrum. Actually qualifying for a full-blown cluster B is a fairly high bar, and NPD reflects actual delusional thought patterns regarding the ability to conceptualize self and others. Dismissive-avoidant attachment is related to narcissism, but they’re not one and the same — for example, narcissism tends to be ubiquitous, while avoidant attachment only shows up in close relationships. Insecure attachment is common, as are various shades of this pattern; full-blown cl…
