Yeah, it's a little disappointing people are saying that in this thread. Multiple times.

It's because your data doesn't actually say anything.

George of the jungle and that bomb shelter movie were also staples of my childhood.

I don't think it's a rights issue, but from a sociological perspective I think it's important to have this space. It's like the housing market, for people who are already in the game it's great, but if, for whatever reason, you're not it makes a lot of sense to be critical of the system that bars you from access. Of course, it's not always a matter of womens' skewed sense of expectations, sometimes it is just a poor guy who hasn't identified he'd be a non-viable partner regardless of the social …

I want to know how these people can claim that guys are able to just dodge child support and other obligations. Maybe prior to the 70s, but now everyone is connected everywhere and with DNA tests there's no wiggle room. I mean, I'm sure there's cases of a guy just burning his ID, living in a tent in the woods and migrating from one shady cash-only job to another, but... At that point, why do you still want him in your life? All I've ever seen is an incredibly zealous state apparatus that wants i…

Even if you're happy alone, you're sabotaging your chances to eventually pursue someone because having a large, active, mixed group of friends is an important signal to women.

True. Im part of those communities just to avoid confining myself to an echo chamber but I couldn't hack it - they are way too stressful.

Yeah, it's not like I'm really disagreeing with the narrative if they stop and consider it. It's really frustrating. I don't think we've quite reached their level of groupthink yet. At least I hope not.

It's honestly disgusting how prominently 'incel' features in their worldviews. They think every man believes that a woman only has worth if they will have sex with them, but on the flipside they also believe men have no worth if they aren't capable of finding a partner.

Also studies have shown that taller people are more likely to be assumed to be competent/leadership material/etc and promotions tend to reflect that. Guess what group doesn't tend to be especially tall? (Well, me too) Edit: eager to learn what about this post is worth downvoting.

No no, "I wear makeup for me, not for THE MALE GAZE". Can just imagine the number of complaints about "rape by misrepresentation/dishonesty" if men all wore 5 inch heels, surgically enhanced their pecs, and padded their crotches before going out lol.

I was writing A-grade papers for my English classes for two years in college until I got assigned an angry feminist with an axe to grind. My first paper or two was fine, but at some point I used "mankind" and one other masculine-generic catch-all term, like I had been taught, and suddenly not only was that paper covered in red "corrections", but every subsequent paper. I also would find time-sensitive emails ignored, or her not in office hours when I mention I am bringing by a paper due to an un…

What's insane is that they on one hand decry rape-culture while at the same time encouraging it by demeaning any person they disagree with as incels. If you're angry or disaffected and being insulted that you're worthless for not being able to find a partner, it's not a long logical leap to guess what the 'solution' to that would be in that fucked up worldview.

Why should we try to influence how people want to spend their lives? It's just pushing people into a box they may not even want.

NPR is incredibly frustrating. I like a lot of their formats for their shows, and they are a little more even-handed than many news sources on some topics. In spite of this, it sometimes seems like they ignore actual facts in order to court the cat-owning-spinster-crocheting-in-a coffee-shop demographic's donor drive/sustainer dollars. I can't see any other reason to justify their approaches to some issues. They themselves say that they get very little of their funding from federal sources--- at…

I mean I assume that she also included some sort of vows when she was being married. Legally, they may not be enforceable, but it's not like you can't throw a lot of shade her way for reneging on the whole 'til death do you part' included in a typical wedding.

Yeah, suddenly it's not so much about a stranger doing something nice for someone, it's about a lower class paying their dues. It's like if one of my black neighbors sees me struggling with something heavy up my apartment stairs and offers to help, and I respond with "I'm glad that the proper values of antebellum racial deference are still observed by some people". I mean, maybe not as extreme, but the principle is similar.

So true. I would wager a majority, if not a vast majority, of military aged men anywhere (well, perhaps exclude branches like Coast Guard or National Guard) choose the military due to a lack of other options or as a source of stablity. Absent any ideological motivations, most men just don't have a tangible stake in going to war, at least not at the scale it is waged at in the past century. War is the recourse of failed diplomacy in the best case, or of greedy special interests in most others. Ei…

Or perhaps that the role that men more or less must adopt, i.e traditionally rising to the occasion as defenders of whatever tribe they belong to, results in disproportionate amounts of dead males. You can acknowledge that most women would not be ideal candidates for combat roles, but it is also valid to make the case that men's traditional roles aren't enviable.

Right-- even without men, there would be war. Women would be adopting whatever roles necessary to secure the resources they need for their offspring, which war is, in a basic sense, a large-scale extension of. But the problem lies in how so many explain away war as a man's unnecessary method of exerting patriarchal/testosterone hegemony over each other/women. Men just happen to have been historically better at combat roles. Acknowledging both of these facts is heretical in modern discourse it se…

Seriously. I can understand the instinct of having something awkward happen to you and wanting to vent, in general terms, on social media about it. But this culture that has developed as an off-shoot, an angry butch-mom-asking-for-manager on steroids, where people are named and shamed is absolutely unacceptable. What an absurd point we've reached.

It was a happy ending for him. Or, at least as close to optimal as circumstances allow. He was only just finishing nursing school when shit was hitting the fan, and didn't have much money to invest in a legal defense early on. However, my parents (out of state & they don't have money either) were able to help watch him while my brother worked or studied, so family was extremely helpful. I don't know your exact situation or how much support you are receiving, I just wanted to give you a little ho…

And then you've got these saintly people on the outside with no personal experience with the situation insulting people in your situation for being dumb and not being the bigger man. It goes so much deeper than emotional maturity and keeping a cool head. I've never personally been in such a situation but I was in contact with my brother who was for several years. Completely bogus accusations of rape from estranged wife an hour away (i.e. she claimed the rape went all night-- he had half a dozen …

And probably face an unbelievable amount of abuse if he's allowed among the general population (prison or society). Rightfully so, in terms of ostracization, other forms of abuse admittedly less so. Can't imagine this woman getting similar treatment.

There's only so many things that need to be made. The market isn't nearly as flexible to handle a huge flood of workers. There aren't enough entrepreneurs or job creators at any time to accommodate them. And I don't see what's wrong with opposing immigration for economic reasons.

I think she may have been using an old Femynism rule set at that time. It probably predates the amazing buffs the Pedant class received in the last few updates.

This was a few years back so I wouldn't have really even identified as someone concerned about men's rights. So I didn't really have a particular viewpoint I was defending. From day one she made it very clear, and spoke at length on, her defining characteristics such as feminism, some ultra hardcore version of veganism, and so on. She was older too, not the young crowd like I might have expected. She was pretty much a walking stereotype, and my problems in that class were not limited solely to m…

Yeah I mean I'll allow that women experience discrimination or so-called micro-aggressions to a degree. Having had an attractive girlfriend before, I know they can attract creeps. However, from my understanding of the word 'institutional', men are the only ones who are repressed at an institutional, systematic level. Whereas women may experience, to varying and undefined degrees, sexism in their environments they are not institutionally repressed. Men overwhelmingly go to prison, both for lesser…

I was marked down in my English 102 course at the University of Alabama for using 'mankind' vs. 'humankind'. I never struggled to get A's in any composition classes but I took a low B in there because I didn't want to tailor my language and my papers to her whimsical worldview. The crazy is everywhere.

I'm torn regarding 'athletic skill'. On the one hand, I find it very appealing in a girl if I can play sports with her like pick up games of ultimate frisbee or basketball with groups of friends. However, I'm not really impressed as many girls think I should be that they played college athletics, especially given how much easier it is for a girl to receive an athletic scholarship in recent decades. So actually I suppose I can put a fine point on it: I value athleticism in a mate, but I do not wa…

I think it's also worth noting that I think many men who might otherwise attempt any of the attention-seeking methods that women use such as overdosing on pills might implicitly understand that their 'call for help' will fall on deaf ears. Society as a whole tends to drop all its shit for a damsel in distress; but in a culture where even healthy, well-adjusted men are criminally undervalued-- what worth can a mentally mal-adjusted man presume to possess in this context?
