"Billions of distasteful actions committed by men every second." That's quite a lot to live up to! I'd almost suggest it was hyperbole. Or indeed, nonsense.

If I were told I must respect all members of a group, in spite of the behaviour of individuals within that group, I would grow to resent that group. I believe this may be human nature. This move is polarising. Increasingly I am seeing that recent drama, Adolescence, as propaganda leading to policy changes. Many people have apparently treated it like it were a documentary!

'Bromance' is a disgusting word. Two guys can't get along well without it being disparaged and mocked (as vaguely sexual?). You will be put down if you don't get along with people, or if you get along well with someone, if you're emotionally literate, or if you're 'too' independent. Ir's pathetic!

The question is, by whose standards? I'm not sure I care for some societal standard of achievement or behaviour being foisted upon me, and then furthermore, being told I'm 'falling behind'' in achieving this ideal that has been created by someone else, with what motive I don't know. "Falling behind" suggests some kind of competition, where everyone works hard to keep up. Personally, I've "fallen behind" in what society expects of me, thank goodness. It was a terrible burden to feel I had to "suc…

You sound depressed, and low self-esteem. I don’t know what advice to give- stuff has helped me, but that doesn't mean it would help you. The thing that comes to mind is- your thoughts aren't real. You imagine a very negative world, where people hate you and don't want you around. This is just thoughts, it's not reality. Maybe Katie Byron's The Work would help you challenge these ideas. Or maybe not, it's just what came to mind. Wishing you well.

Heinlein's kind of arguing that three people dying pointlessly is better than one or two. I'm not sure I agree. Also "embrace disposability!". Who would want to embrace that? One wants to feel one's life is meaningful, even if only in a subjective sense. If the only meaning is to be a sacrificial pawn in someone else's supposedly more important story, I reject that. We are all disposable: we are all needed. I think he made this story up by the way. Maybe i'm wrong.

Some thoughts... Get the sense that at least for some, what is termed 'toxic masculinity' and the term 'masculinity' are exactly the same. There is a power in the masculine that is not negative. And typing this sentence, I realise that some would find even this statement oppressive. Sad really, this culture, this society. It's really gone off track- both the feminine and masculine mysteries are routinely derided, in different ways. There are people who take responsibility for the actions of murd…

I never could understand why the police who are a predominantly male force treats men so badly when it comes to reporting abuse I know, they're our brothers in the Patriarchy, right? (/s, obvs)

Did she not say all hetrosexual sex is rape? I can't believe I read her stuff, let alone absorbed some. It really fucked up my sexuality for at least a decade, at a formative time. She was a damaged individual. Less charitably, I think she's sick and mad. I'm not sure who ought to be reading her books, I'm not sure why they should be still available.

I have been a victim of misandric abuse. The effect on me was not "nothing." The argument is nonsense isn't it? I would guess at it being the opinion of someone who was not yet an adult. It has that kind of unformed thinking quality of a child.

I've found reports of boats being deliberately sunk, but the author seems to be claiming men in the boats have specifically pushed women and only women into the sea, to save themselves. I haven't found this, on a cursory search.

It's "pass notes" which typically uses a snarky tone for humorous effect. I wouldn't worry about it- it's the source material that's the problem.

The last I heard, murder was illegal too. But apparently, mass murder happens on 'a lot of boats', and because the victims are female, no action is taken.

I'm just imagining a scene of a woman being mauled by a bear in the woods- a man shows up to help, maybe a forest ranger with a gun, and the woman says, "stay away from me! I don't know what you'd do!"

"In a lot of overcrowded boats at sea today, mostly women will be forced to drown because the men throw them out of the boat." I'd love to see a source for this. Or even just one documented incidence.

I'd love the privilege of walking safely in the city. Unfortunately, nobody has that privilege, unless maybe they're built like 80's Swarzenegger. Even that's no guarantee.

It's like saying 'young men are failing, and they are turning to the far right [according to a consensus of journalists], which is bad. Young men are not all right." And then " why are we giving young men all the attention?" But it's horrible attention! None of it is positive. Who wants that?

My story about dating apps- I'm a raw vegan, also a singer who writes my own songs. By chance, I met a woman on a dating app who was also a raw vegan, and a singer who wrote her own songs. She lived a short bus ride away. A good starting point- You'd think that would merit a meet, wouldnt you? No! She sent me a recording of a couple of her songs (which i listened to), appeared to have no interest in listening to any music I'd written, or indeed in me. After that I gave up, seemed laughable. Am n…

A friend posted her 8 year old daughter's comment, "men need to pull their socks up!" Which is quite precocious in one so young. It's funny though, that so many people see fit to tell males what they ought to be doing. It's like a national sport.

"Lonely men are more dangerous than ever"- ah fuck off. Pathologising loneliness, which is an emotion this fragmented society breeds in abundance, for both sexes.

I don't think so. Society can do what it does (and it will). It really isn't any of my business now. Edit- that's just me though. Others can obviously do whatever they think is best. Edit 2- I really think society is a dead loss. "Can't it be improved though?" I don't know. Can you improve a turd pudding?

It's a dramatic series, written to create emotional responses in the viewer. It intersects with reality, but it doesn't accurately reflect reality. Yet people are treating it like a documentary. Frustrates me. It's like people have watched Batman, and said, "We really need to take steps to protect ourselves from this Joker guy!"

These people WANT a boogeyman like tate instead of honestly engaging in bigger causes People create their own Frankenstein. I think Tate is a kind of scapegoat, in the original meaning of the word- people would pin their fears and dislikes onto the scapegoat and then drive it from the village. I think he has a similar role to that which Marilyn Manson had for a while, as a scapegoat for societal phenomena. people like to point to something that they see as going wrong in society and say, "this i…

I think the phrase is unusable now, it's just so loaded. It has too many connotations. "Toxic behaviour" might be a better phrase? It takes away some of the judgemental aspect. One thing I don't like about the phrase "toxic masculinity" is that it implies that the toxicity is an outgrowth of the masculinity, or sometimes, it seems that the person using the phrase believes that masculinity in itself is toxic. For me, that makes it a toxic phrase! I wonder what "Toxic femininity" would apply to? m…

Wanted to add, I don't think I've made a good case here. This phrase needs to be logically dismantled entirely, a comprehensive detonating of every aspect. It would take time, and I'm just not inclined to do it. Who would I be writing for? So I feel my argument here is poorly put, as part of me wants to engage, and another part of me is just entirely uninterested.

My self-reflection will be on my own terms, not some nasty little phrase that is used often to devalue men. If there were a corresponding "toxic femininity", I suppose it would be more balanced. But I wouldn't like either phrase, as I don't believe pathological behaviour is gendered.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/04/25 12:10 PM

Lots of reasons. Here's one- it is implied that the 'toxicity' is a natural part of masculinity- the toxic part. There's no corresponding feminine toxicity. Therefore, the conclusion to be drawn is that masculinity necessarily 'turns rotten' at some point, and must be curbed, policed and educated away. I reject this premise. I have other objections, but as I say, no interest in discussing it. It is, essentially, a slur.

Some truly terrible people have a good sex life, and have many women attracted to them. It's not really a measure of anything except that one has jumped through some hoops that society values (money, fame, influence etc)

I had someone use my membership of this sub as evidence I was an incel. I hadn't even posted anything here at the time. I'm not sure of the correlation between involuntary celibacy and egalitarianism. Probably not a great deal, people- women in this case- just want to find an easy way to insult you.

"Disgruntled" is a weird word to use. You're either angry or disgruntled, you can't be both. Disgruntled is like you're irritated by something, perhaps irrationally so, or maybe you're a bit entitled. It's vaguely undermining, given the issue. Like saying Nelson Mandela was disgruntled by apartheid.

If they are serious about this, they need male teachers to head the classes, and single-sex classes. A female teacher heading this in a mixed sex class is potentially incredibly damaging to a boy's development.

"the problems being experienced by a minority of boys" - I disagree. I think it's a majority. I also dislike the word "lost" in the subheading. It implies there's a path filled with opportunities for young men and boys, that they have wandered away from somehow. I dont think this is the case. there are few opportunities, and there is no path.

men hurt men and sometimes men take that hurt and push it on to women and other men So you're framing men as the originators in all of this? Men create violence against men, and sometimes take it out on women too? I don't see it that way. You're framing it as if men are the problem here, and the creators of all violence and abuse. That's not my experience.
