Found it. It's : Spreading Misandry - The Teaching of Contempt for Men in Popular Culture (2001) by Paul Nathanson & Katherine K. Young. I typed "nonfiction professor canada "The hand that rocks the cradle" "Cape Fear" feminism" in google and it was on the second page.

nope, nonfiction, collaboration of two or three college professors, possibly married to each other. Don't you have a stereotypical MRA elder statesman around these parts, bitterly divorced, late 40s-early 50s, fatherly but prone to bouts of anger, reads a lot of MR literature, that guy would know.

I can't remember the name of a book and google is letting me down, it was sort of antifeminist, academic, from around late 90s, it had analysis of films like The hand that rocks the cradle and Cape fear.
