It's pretty much how it works in the US too. BUT if it goes to court, the other partner can ask for everything and if he/she comes up with a compelling reason, then the judge grants it. Often the compelling reason is lifestyle continuation.

No, not different meanings. Different words, based on etymology. Different meanings are sub entries of the main word. No, it's the only way general English dictionaries work. It's why there are often two entries for the same word, like scope, scope, and -scope, or in this situation, Nice and nice. I think that might be a no true Scotsman. I've been on gaming forums where I've talked about games performing really poorly, going into slow motion, dropping frames, etc. on Xbox 360 and stuff. It's semi-regular that someone will just drop in there some shit about "that's how consoles are supposed to be. It's what you get for not buying a PC." And it's serious. While I don't doubt that most people on PCMR are joking, there are a huge number who haven't gotten the message yet.

I don't think so. Presenters can be judged entirely on merit but the Beeb can still meet its diversity standards by hiring people of diverse backgrounds for other areas, like accounting, producing, secretarial stuff, law, tons of junk. I don't think so. It was likely due to a different way of doing the survey. The press release you linked to says this. Of those who have considered suicide, 53% state that they have thought about it fairly or very seriously, with women (28 percent) more likely to have suicidal thoughts than men (22 percent). So, in the survey that had both men and women, women think about it more than men.

Nope, I'm 6'6". I believe this happens, but just as often as a man tells a woman she is too thick for him. It's really uncommon and rude, and I've never personally seen it happen either. I've been told I'm too tall, though. The point is that it's not normal, and isn't perceived as any better than the other way round.

Something I do is say it as a matter of fact, then move on instantly, as if it was no big deal. "So I'm in Luxembourg, and this happened and blah blah blah 15 minute story" Later, I'll tell a story about being in Germany, or being in Greece, and soon she gets I'm a traveler.
