I usually only have gay male friends. I think it's difficult to have straight male friends because the ones I've had in the past either wanted me as a backup option or were currently attracted to me. But maybe it's because I don't emasculate males as much as my peers, so I am keeping the possibility of sexual attraction open. My man doesn't care. He has a few close female friends, so it would be hypocritical of him lol.

At a friend's party! The very first thing I remember hearing about him was that he was like a modern-day Odysseus (the comment was a play on how he studied Classics in college). We talked and I remember thinking he was cool, but I left the party thinking nothing of it...until I ran into him in the dining hall. He and I started having lunch together and texting every day, and here we are now!

To chime in, I see more friends-to-lovers than FWB-to-lovers at my college. Especially since we're all young and even the guys who are family-minded aren't thinking of it at the forefront of their minds unless an amazing girl shows up. It can be tricky because you could friend zone yourself so I totally also got lucky.

Might as well chime in with my outfits, too. On my first date with my SO, I wore a light blue turtleneck sweater and a mocha colored corduroy miniskirt with black tights. The first time I met him, I was at a friend's party, and I was wearing an oversized scarlet sweater and blue skinny jeans. For comparison, when I was seeing a guy who'd eventually string me along for half a year, my first date outfit was a pink and black floral dress. He first met me during a concert, where I was wearing an ove…

Aw that sounds really sweet! I'm no where near as far as you are in my horror movie journey, but I hope to be in the future.

Horror movies. I used to be too chicken to watch any, but my man loves them, so now I snuggle up against him whenever we go see one and cling onto him during the really scary scenes. I think I love watching them now, too, because they give me a good excuse to cuddle with him!

In the end, I didn't have to scheme to set up the conversation. I'm not going to go into it for privacy reasons, but I have good reason to believe she isn't a threat to our relationship. He isn't orbiting her, she's trying desperately to cling onto a man she knows she should have held more tightly to. Thank you for wishing me luck! I feel really lucky that my man and I were able to get this into the clear.

True. Thanks for raising a good point.

Reading: The Surrendered Wife. Even though I'm not a wife yet, I want to be able to apply the general principles in my life to make me and my SO happier. Watching: Revenge. Yeah, I have my guilty pleasures. I know. Making: Trying to learn to cook! I was never taught this growing up. Brought a basic recipe book, promised myself to make a new recipe a week.

Oh that's a great idea, I'll have to incorporate more of your suggestions when I see him!

Ah the timing doesn't work out that well... Ok I'll wait until after the first week of him teaching a huge intro course he's stressed about, and then tell him. I'm impatient by nature, but the waiting period will be nice, I guess. It gives me more time to show exactly how much more value I add to his life. I don't live with him, so at least if this ends it won't be as messy as it could've been.

You're right. Totally right. Ok, he's at a conference right now and will be busy preparing for another school year, and I want to set up this conversation the best I can to get him in the most receptive mood. Do you have tips for how to approach this?

Ah I see, thanks for pointing out that distinction. Ok I'll have to try stepping up my girl game, telling him my concern, then withdrawing a bit!

I guess with this, I'd question if it still counts if it were a high school/college relationship without any intercourse. But you raise a really good point. On the one hand, I fear my hamster is spinning into overdrive. On the other hand, I fear I'm being played for the fool by him. And I can't really tell which is true.

Ah, taking away affection sounds a little too manipulative for me. Do you have any ideas for how to do this in a more subtle way?

Yeah, I have no doubt that he used to orbit her. I feel like they're both each other's backup plans; neither is willing to make any dramatic life decisions like moving to the other. I'll work on stepping up my girl game. But even if he forgets about her, I don't trust her. She knows he's taken, and she still initiates a lot of texts, and the frequency of them makes me feel uncomfortable.

Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate you listening to my story and telling me your thoughts. Seeing as how all his old friends are scattered around the country and I can't really verify anything, what do you think I should do to get a sense of whether or not he's orbiting or she's trying to pull him into her orbit?

Anything slovenly, be it appearance, house, car, etc. I'm usually very put together, but this summer I let myself slip a bit volunteering in a hospital. I'm really meticulous about contamination, so I wore boring tops with jeans with closed-toe shoes every day, instead of the girly frills I usually wear. It totally made a difference in my disposition! I should try to find more put together outfits in the future for these circumstances.

I burned myself out this summer trying to get ahead on coursework, and it's made me feel like I've been slacking on being as soft place of a place to land with my boyfriend as I could be. So I've vowed to do better these upcoming weeks!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
