we have no choice but to take responsibility for our own actions. I think that that's a great trait for anyone to have, but it's not what I see here when I see people blaming Chad/the standards that women have, for their own lack of success. I've also read that women are overall more likely to place the blame with themselves than men are.

I think a lot more men are unattractive when I only have a picture to judge from. Real life, you're getting so much more information about someone, even when you see them for a few seconds. They could smell great, have a nice posture, good voice, great laugh or even better laugh at the same shit, twinkle in their eye, be really fast thinkers when you talk to them etc. Also, it's weird how on a dating site people seem to blend in one and the same guy, most have the same few favorite movies and bo…

There's a quote from some fantasy show along the lines of 'being brave isn't not being afraid, it's about being scared and doing the thing anyway.' I think the fact that someone does something that scares them makes them brave/confident in itself. Like, it isn't about the speaking itself, but more 'hey here's a thing I hate, let's do it anyway because it can improve my life.' Is something that I think needs a base level of confidence.

Can I touch your arm? Can I kiss you now? Can you kiss you a second time? May I kiss you in a different way(explanation)...is that okay? May I touch your...well I'm sure you guys get the picture. Pff if that would be the result of the law, I'd make sure to always carry a sharpie so I could just write yes on my forehead and be done with it.

Nope, team systemization here. It’s just that it misses a level of self-reflection to save people's own ego. It’s easier to believe that all women are bitches and that’s why you aren’t having any luck than to admit that you need to improve before you're good enough. When you can see your own troubles more clearly and you can admit that ‘yeah I might not be the best catch either at the moment’, it’s much easier to move on without still blaming the world. Look at the advice, and look who’s having …

I'm not red because I think there's still a level of self reflection missing and I think that could help prevent some of the bitterness I see (not in all rp posts, but some). For instance the idea that women outside your target demographic don't count as women. I think that's kinda shooting yourself in the foot. If you could honestly tell yourself 'I'm only attracted to 10% of the women' it seems to me that it would be a lot easier to stomach the work you need to put in to get them. I'm not any …

it all hinges on finding someone who already makes you happy. Who already makes good decisions, and treats you well. I agree that that's really important and no matter the relationship, as long as it makes both (or all) people in the relationship happy I think people should go for it. For me personally however, a man who would agree to always have the last say in important discussions would make him 'less of a good man' (for me). I'll happily let someone decide if it's something that's important…

Not on everything, but being able to agree on a holiday location is pretty high up there for me. Someone who wants to hike for a few weeks is usually not the type of person who'd appreciate city trips (of course some do). And it certainly doesn't teach you how to deal with conflict. But you can learn how to deal with conflict in a lot of other social situations and ideally both partners know how to do so before they enter a relationship. Sure a romantic relationship is often harder, but I'd expe…

It makes a great deal of difference which emotions you displaying and how though. The struggling artist who cries each night about 'how the world isn't seeing that he's a genius? Yes, up the stoicism please. A guy who needs an hour to complain about his work when he's done? Yes, more stoicism please. But the guy who rants an hour about a topic while sounding like David Mitchel or Charlie Brooker? Keep showing those emotions. In other words, it's great advice for people who display emotions that …

It wouldn't be what I'm after. I can see how it works if one person really hates to make decisions, but when I look around it's as often the guy as the girl who's so 'laidback' that it translates to 'giving no input at all'. Both being a person who doesn't have the final say, or being the person to make all the decisions sound a lot worse to me as taking turns/compromise.

A. Who the fuck cares where you are? Your on vacation and your together. But when you go on the skiing holiday as a couple and one person doesn't want to actually skii, it will mean you'll end up spending much of your holiday apart.

What happened to the other 4 girls? I agree that people go for the people they are attracted to, but most people can be attracted to more people and the gender divide is pretty equal. I think that when a man (or woman) often finds themselves in a scenario where the ratio is that screwed they might have better luck changing the scenery than worrying about their value.

Most people that are around 35 don't want to party anyway because hangovers do hurt a lot more and there's less time to lie in bed for a day just to nurse them.

I'm not surprised. I mean, most of the people you're hitting on are new people that don't know you yet right? Depending on the age, a subset of those is going to be taken and not wanting to cheat. 10% ish are probably attracted to the gender you're not, another percentage just doesn't do one night stands, some might just not be horny that day, some others might be on their period, others are there with friends they haven't spoken to in ages and they prefer catching up with them. That's a pretty …

I used to identify with feminism, but by now it's easier to just drop the term and tell people what I think in a specific situation, it just takes too long to explain to people which parts of the current day feminism I agree with and which parts I despise. It has become an umbrella for so many different ways of looking at gender, that me saying that I'm a feminist can leave people with totally the wrong impression of me, if they use the term to mean something else as I do. I personally believe t…

Being able to talk to them is a good thing yeah, but I think it's in line with that idea. If you appear like someone who talks to women/people and they respond well it will work in your favor. When they can see you hitting on others (if you're good with body language it's very easy to see even from across the room) and not succeeding it filters you out the other way around. You want to sleep with someone that feels like an achievement too right? Well, sleeping with someone who just hit on half t…

I second the smoking suggesting (though it's terrible for you and quitting is a hell etc) but just hanging out with the smokers is a great way to get talking. It's way more acceptable to talk to someone you're smoking with, you're both outcasts that can't stay inside and it's much less 'directly hitting on someone'. Having an 'in' just to talk to someone without seeming like you're hitting on them is important. When you talk to a girl, you might learn that she's taken, but her friend is single, …

I can see it. If someone helps someone with crossing the street they are aware enough to see that someone needs a hand and nice enough to follow through. The combination of 'aware' and 'nice' is really attractive to me, because it usually translates to better sex. I mean real life sex is a lot more clumsy than porn, for instance people can get cramps and it's really, really BIG plus if someone can instantly tell the difference between ecstasy and pain and is caring enough to adjust accordingly.

Having sex with a prostitute is a reward for having money, OP wants to have the feeling that someone he thinks is worthwhile thinks the same of him. Paying someone to have sex with you doesn't provide that feeling, sure (some) prostitutes can turn someone down, but not being turned down by a prostitute is setting the bar a bit low for yourself.

I think only learning about the kids after a few dates is enough reason not to pursue it. When you're old enough to have kids, you should be old enough to understand that they can be a dealbreaker and you should mention them up-front (unless it's something super casual).

I think that when you want to translate confidence to a direct trait it means, don't moan when you don't have to. The less you take personal, the happier you tend to be, and happy people are easier to get along with.

I'm ok with acknowledging the differences, I mean, I do really like men because they are different from women, they have parts I don't (to start with) and I like that. I also agree that most generalisations are based on something, yeah most men are better at reading a map, most women use more words during a day then men etc. I just think that people who make gender the first and foremost thing to judge someone on are doing themselves a disservice because a lot of people are going to judge them r…

A 3 who's confident is (to me) more attractive than someone who's higher on the scale but lacks confidence. It's not that every guy who's confident is attractive to me, it's just that confidence (even if it's based on a delusion) generally means that people are so much easier to hang out with. Someone who's deeply insecure about themselves is going to take things more personal and usually ends up complaining a lot more. The time you spend listening to someone complain about life isn't spent doin…

To achieve either body you need extremely regular gym time and a meticulous diet. and that unless you're doing manual labour my ideal takes a shit ton of effort. Yeah we agree on that part. It's a body type that requires work, you're not going for a run one day and accidentally end up looking like that. I do however think that when some guys read 'you need to get in shape' they might envision the athletic build and get scared of by the work they think they would have to put in to get there, whil…

I can understand where it comes from and I'm not going to chastise people for being cautious with other people in general. Even when someone tells me that all women aren't to be trusted I'm not going to get mad, I'm going to assume that person has shitty experiences that led to them feeling that way. It's more that when I read someone making generalisations based on gender, I want to reach through the screen and shake that person and yell "just say people where you're saying women/men and you wo…

Personally I'd rather date someone who's skinny than someone who has more muscles than I find attractive. (for reference, the ideal would be somewhere between otter/athletic on this pretty chart. I'd date thinner or somewhat chubbier, but even mr athletic would be too much muscle for me to still find attractive. I do fully realize that's that anecdotal and that unless you're doing manual labour my ideal takes a shit ton of effort. But for the sake of the current argument, yes there are women who…

I agree that it doesn't benefit anyone to assume that people are good and honest by default. I do think when you adopt the mindset that it's specifically women that can't be trusted, you risk scaring away the ones that are decent because they are offended by the generalisation itself. The more the things you say scare away the decent people, the less of them you'll have to hang out with, thus confirming your view that people are indeed horrible.

Because in 99% of the cases it's not an underlying medical issue but something that's within someone's control, they just value other things more. I'm not blaming them for it not being important to them, that's ok, if someone wants to go out for drinks on sunday and still have a pizza on monday I'm not going to stop them, it's not something that makes them bad people, just people that won't be the right fit for me. I'm doing stuff I would enjoy anyway I think that's something that gets overlooked. I do believe that for some people dating just involves stuff they strongly dislike, so to them it honestly feels like work. If you combine that with the thing that motivates you most being 'get laid by pretty women', it does feel like working to get laid. I also think that most guys find motivation from other sources, so they have the job they have because they love it, they are sporty because they get to have a …

I don't think BMI is arbitrary, it's just a very broad criteria and to me its main flaw is that it isn't strict enough. If you're outside the healthy BMI range it means just that you'd probably be healthier if you got inside the healthy range. It doesn't mean you're done/fit/swole when you get there. People come in all shapes and builds, I know that when I have a BMI of 23 I'm still considered too fat when I measure my waist (should be half your length or lower to be considered healthy). Now par…

Why would attraction be different from any other human behavior? I agree with you that human behavior can be generalized, but I do think that attraction is one of those area's where people display a lot of irrationality. At least I know I do personally. I can't explain to you why I prefer black hair over blonde in most cases. I know that I need to like someone's voice to be attracted to them, the rational explanation is that if I'm going to spend a lot of time talking to someone that's important…

I think there's a good change wires can get crossed in discussions like these, when both parties are talking about the same thing (sexual attention) but place a different value on it. Anyway, thanks for staying civil and taking the time to reply, even if we might never agree on all things, it did make it a lot more clear for me.

Most of the rules are fluid though and depend on the situation. Someone might date someone that's the same height usually, but dismiss the dude from the dating site who's also the same height but lied about it on his profile. Someone might gladly sleep with one player because they don't want a relationship and sleeping with him means she doesn't have to deal with someone blowing up her phone after. That same girl could dismiss another player because she's afraid she could catch some feelings and…

What's wrong with getting help though? If you aren't getting the results you're after on your own, getting help could, you know, actually help? For instance, I need a job and I would like to work in the art sector, I'm not going to blindly apply, I'm going to sit down with a friend first who's going to advise me on how to dress and tell me which hobbies are the best to bring up when they ask about them etc. I don't think there's something terribly wrong with me, but I do think there are things I…

I think the BP people are more open to the idea that dating isn't a puzzle you can solve by doing a specific set of things, but more something that's dependant on the situation/personal preferences. I could tell a man to grow a beard because I think he'd look better that way, but if he and his new beard hit the town and the girls he's approaching have a thing against facial hair it's not going to help him much. I'm not going to deny that some things like 'be clean, dress in clothes that fit you …

Yes, it does tell you who people are willing to date, but it still doesn't show overlap/success rate and of which ages/genders the userbase is composed. If OkCupid has a user base that's let's say (I'm totally making this up by the way) 100 men for every 50 women, percentages are going to mean less in terms of success rate. I mean, even if everyone matched up, that would leave 50% of the men single (yes everyone on OkCupid turned hetero in my example). It could be that those single men are mostl…

For him to meet the minimum standards to get as many sexual opportunities as the average woman, he has to do a lot more than just not be fat, dress well and put on make up. He has to hit the gym, develop game, have a decent job, dress well and, most of all, be good looking (enough). I'm not saying this to be mean, but I think that when a man needs to meet all those criteria before he can get laid he has other blind spots that might need his attention. I agree that the things you mentioned certai…

For me that would be too little data to work with. I mean who do they see as 'portion of the dating pool'? Is it all the users? Are those the users that the person is also interested in? Which age groups are using Okcupid the most, etc etc. You can't tell from this graph if the popular people are actually dating the other popular people. The interest in the older men could also mean that there are more women on the site over 30 wanting to do the marriage and kids thing asap than younger girls, a…

But do they say who desires them and if they have any success? If women in their early 20's are desirable because they get 'liked' or get messages from men in their 30's but they aren't responding/dating them, it only proves that men want to sleep/date a 20 something girl, not that it's actually happening on a regular basis.

I guess I don't agree with the theory you're describing, because even if I had a harem fantasy, I'd have one, not be in one. It would make it so much easier to have a fulfilling relationship if you had a partner for all aspects of your life. The guy you could discuss books with, the guy who'd join you in a dive bar etc. But in reality, I have more than enough trouble seeing my friends often enough as it is. I don't have an experience trying to get laid as a man so I'm not going to comment on that. I replied to the poster who said that men needed to put in work before they showed up, and women just had to be there and how I think that's utter bullshit. say that women should go for men that are very caring and not social and basically non-masculine I'm a bit confused by this example, most people I know that are caring are social to a degree, I mean to care for someone you need to be able to know what they need and that does require social skills. I think there's a very big space between an asshole and someone that's straight up abusive. Furthermore there are fewer opportunities for casual sex for men than for women. A guy who has one ONS had to work for it while she just showed up. The work he has to do includes hours of exercise per week, earning decent money to dress well and buy products to look and smell nice, and work on his personality to seem charming. She just has to put some effort in for an evening. So you think that women don't put any work in? Men use products and work out to get in shape and woman magically never p…

Which items on this list would you list as exceptional? I can see getting fit having a few gradations, like dressing sharp, but the other stuff like being clean, smelling nice and having a good personality/knowing how to act in certain situations doesn't seem too outrageous to me. To me someone could dress nice enough if they are wearing jeans, chucks and a shirt, it just has to fit and be clean. *edit about the shoes, I admit I look at shoes and judge. I can see this being true for some of the more average guys in the dating pool, but I also think that a pretty high percentage of the average guys or betas still will be swayed by some of the things they consider perks of being in a relationship, like a double income or the ability to have a family.

I don't think they will have any effect on the dating scene, because their target audience is just too small. The majority of the people are (happily) coupled up or hooking up. If they get the sex part to be convincing enough for people who aren't getting any no matter what they do, or offer some fun for those people who are rather alone than in a relationship, all the power to them.

I think part of the disconnect that comes with using those terms is that it really is that simple for the majority of the people. They do just get a relationship by following the advice that society gives them. When people are using entitled they can offend the people who feel misled because, yeah society could tell them earlier in a gentle way that they need to do more or different things. When you use misled however, you can easily offend the people who genuinely don't believe they did anythin…

I think it's partly a symptom that comes from people being raised in a 'congratulations on competing, you all get medals' society. If all you hear when growing up is that everyone is equal and you're perfect the way you are, it's pretty shitty to discover that this simply isn't true. It doesn't really matter if that happens during your childhood, or at a later time. As a group incels/FA's remind me most of the HAES movement. People who want something that's out of reach in their current state and deal with it by 'willing' the world to change to give them the things they want, rather than changing the things about themselves that would increase their chances. I also think all those groups greatly underestimate the 'work' the other average to beautiful people put in. 1) A show in Holland had a bit about genetics in dating. They had about 10 men work out and had women smell their fresh sweat after (a blind test of course). The scent they liked most/minded least corresponded both with the people they found most attractive and both of those corresponed with the people they'd (according to genetics) made the best possible match with. So I'm going to agree that genetics do still play a role when dating. However, I do think you are jumping to the wrong conclusions…
