Yes I do know that you can contract herpes from oral sex...

Yes but you produce antibodies just upon exposure to a virus - it doesn’t mean you contracted a virus.

Everything you quoted makes it sound like a positive test does not mean you have it though. “Your test results may not mean you have a problem” etc. What I think most people really want to know after someone discloses to them that they have herpes, is what if anything they can do in order to not contract it, particularly when it comes to oral sex.

This is good info - thanks for sharing. Seems like there’s been some new tests developed in the last 5 or so years. But, just to clarify - these tests all look for antibodies, and presence of antibodies means exposure but not necessarily that you “have it”, right? Also I’m presuming you had a sore that could be tested originally, and then you did all these blood tests after just to confirm?

Well, I have to agree with you that if everyone got tested the stigma would be reduced - it would have to be since so many people will “have it” (meaning they could never have a sore but be a carrier). But, the blood test that my friend got was unusual - I’d actually asked to be screened for herpes multiple times before that, and was told every time that you can only know for sure if they can swab an active sore, and that the blood test will turn up positive just due to exposure, since it’s an a…

I feel for you. Went thru this when my friends doctor gave him the blood test for herpes that can’t tell you what kind it is or if you are a carrier - and he came back positive. He’s never had a sore. All the blood test measures is antibodies, so all he knows is that he’s been exposed. Could be an oral cold sore type of deal. But now he’s in a bind regarding telling others. Like you said, many people would test positive and be in your shoes (symptomless but carriers). That’s why I didn’t get tes…

Yeah but that doesn’t mean he’s gonna jump your bones the minute you show any hint of interest. Maybe he’s concerned he’ll catch feelings. Maybe he’s butthurt that you ditched him before. It’s not an insult to you if a man doesn’t want to have sex just because you’ll “let him”. I’m all for shitting on men and calling out their bad behavior, but don’t take it too far and think every guy in the world wants sex more than anything. I mean, you went so far as to suggest he might be gay just cuz he di…

All that’s happening here is he’s insecure because he wants to fuck you but he’s worried he’ll catch feelings for you, or it bothers his ego that you wouldn’t catch feelings for him. And he’s butt hurt because you deleted him and ignored him a while ago. He’s not going to chase you now because you’ve already insulted his ego and he doesn’t want to risk further rejection. But if you keep being forward about wanting to fuck him, I’m sure you will. You were sending just as much mixed messages here …

I’m confused - he is texting you first most of the time, no? Am I interpreting your list wrong?

Hello! I’m a lesbian who just discovered this subreddit today. I have to say, the women here are smart in their dealings with men. I’ve been enjoying reading the posts. Lots of empowered women here (real empowerment, not performative). To answer your question about whether lesbians have anything to gain from the FDS mentality, I would say it’s a good approach for anyone who wants a serious relationship and for anyone who wants to draw healthy boundaries. But I think one thing is different for le…
