Good luck dude. I've basically abandoned this sub. They're posting about manspreading and Jordan Peterson and shit. I actually did a double-take when I saw your post because it seemed to care more about male rape victims than false rape accusations, which is one of the metrics I use to measure if a men's movement actually cares about men. Maybe there's still hope here, but... Not much. It's really discouraging.

Actually just found out this sub has been intentionally brigaded by /r/MensRights, so I don't think anyone is here in good faith. I'll just patiently wait to get banned for being a leftist again.

This sub is a parody at this point.

Yeah good point. I know some people call themselves "gender abolitionist" as a way to be bigoted against transgender people and that is not at all what I'm talking about. It's more a matter of applying feminist ideas in a way that's mirrored for every gender. That's why I dont like r/menslib. It doesn't apply feminism to men. It just gives men's issues a small section within feminism from a female perspective. And I don't really like what this sub has become either. It's more focused on criticiz…

"gender abolition" is not a great term for what I mean as it doesn't seem to immediately communicate the concept very well. It's just the closest term I've heard other people use in reference to similar frameworks. I mean, I'm not a sex abolitionist. But I am against infant circumcision if that's all you're asking. Like I mentioned, I spent a lot of time on the old /r/MensRights sub.

I'm a gender abolitionist, so if that is that then sure.

Well yeah, exactly. It's not, like, partially Anti-Capitalist or progressive or anything. This sub reads like a clone of r/MensRights basically. It's just anti-feminist and that's all the politics there is. Seems like a recent thing too, cause I've been here a while. Edit: I feel like it suddenly just got popular to be a "leftist" or something for some reason and a lot of people don't really know what that means.

What exactly do people here consider "left wing?" Is just anybody left wing now?

I dunno.... This sub is a little weirdly anti-faminist. I don't think feminism has a very good place for men inside its movement, but I still like the framework for analyzing gender issues, and I want to mirror its criticisms from a men's perspective to explain body image issues and negative gender roles and stuff. I guess I'm more of a gender abolitionist. Kind of like the stuff Vaush talks about. Modern feminism isn't the problem, but I get the feeling some people here think it is for some rea…

Any time there's a post on this sub where it does what this one did - take a feminist issue and switch the sides to show a hypocrisy - it always switches between women and rape and men and false rape accusations. This seems pretty intentional, since if you wanted to do this, you'd be interested in keeping as much consistency as possible. Even if false rape accusations were a relatively equal problem with rape, you'd still want to make an example with rape, just to keep as many variables consiste…
/r/MensRights20/01/19 05:56 PM

The most telling thing about this sub is when it thinks false rape accusations are a bigger problem than actual rape. An ad about women stopping women from raping men would make much more sense. I don't know the numbers about false rape accusations compared to unreported female rape victims, and neither do you. But I do know that unreported male rape victims are a huge, huge problem.

I was under the impression that teams with at least two women were more effective literally because they break up the atmosphere of competition between an all male team and allow easier cooperation

Tell that to 26000 rape victims a year.

Alright hoooold up. This is a rampant problem. On this sub. You called out a hypocrisy - a contradiction. Good. Now what? Make the next claim. Which side SHOULD be the way it is? Should we not be held accountable for the actions of a few individuals AND we shouldn't be praised for the actions of a few good men? If you don't clarify, people might assume that you think we collectively deserve praise for the actions of a few. Which is wrong. Maybe it seems obvious to you, and maybe it is, but it is…

We can't live without purpose. You and Peterson have given us two options: slave for your family or slave for a lie. That may work for you, which is fine. But when your son puts a bullet in his head, come back, and we'll talk about WHY life is suffering and what we can do about it.

Oh FUCK your Jordan Peterson shit. I'm dying because I have to work a bullshit job 40 hours a week, and people like you tell me I should be grateful for it. I don't need religion. I need revolution.

If I see another upvoted comment like this, I'm outta here. I only put up with you assholes, because we have a common agenda... And because there's one line you never cross. If this sub is going to decline into blatant sexism though, I'm leaving you to your own toxicity.

Also, because this Stat is virtually impossible to determine, and you should ALWAYS call bullshit on ANYONE claiming to know this Stat, whether they're saying it's super low OR super high. Most rape cases are settled, so no conclusion is ever found. Very, very few rape cases are "proven false," which is what matters more than just finding a "not guilty" resolution. And of course, many actual victims never bring their case to court.

That's why you're reading the article. To learn about the controversy. Some people say they should have picked a woman. You wouldn't know that if it weren't for journalism.
/r/MensRights06/06/18 12:50 AM
1

I'm serious though, rewrite the article, or at least the title. You think it can be done better? I don't. The perspective in the title is in quotes, therefore, it's not a subjective statement. It's an objective statement. It's a fact. You want to change a fact. The department insisted it was "committed to diversity and encouraging the broadest range of candidates". It had "actively contacted" 44 women and 43 men to apply for the role. Of those, 19 men and eight women applied and four women and o…

Right, I mostly agree with you. Every news source has some bias, and I'm sure the BBC is generally left-leaning. But this article? There's not a word in here that is subjective. You'd have to be insane to read this article and come away from it outraged at BBC. I'm not trying to defend BBC. I'm trying to defend objective truth from being stomped on by people who believe in alternative facts and that objective reality isn't real if it isn't published by The Daily Wire or something.
/r/MensRights05/06/18 06:13 PM

From my perspective, you could sound more insane. Maybe you're part of the Russian bot net, maybe you're brainwashed by alt-right anti-truth campaigns, maybe you're just a troll. I literally can't comprehend a better explanation for why you'd read this and think it was propaganda. There's nothing there to be propaganda in the first place. I'm sure BBC is left-leaning, but this article is very boring, strict, objective and factual. And that's why I think you are lying and construing truth with wh…

I'm sorry? The neutral solution would have been to not report the events at all? Isn't that censorship? I read this article, and the conclusion I come to, the idea formed in my head from the presented facts, is not a liberal idea. Why is it liberal propaganda? The author wrote it to start a conversation about it to spread liberal bias? But the people discussing it is a men's rights group. This just isn't bias, not in content, not in fact, not in effect. The liberal agenda would do better to NOT …

Why are you all talking like they just picked random feminists out of the crowd to comment on this? The quotes are from relevant people. From both sides. Heck, from my perspective, they're doing the service of exposing the pettiness of the opposers.
/r/MensRights04/06/18 07:42 PM
1

Do I have to extract all the quotes for you instead? The quote support both sides. It's not like the article is portraying it one way or the other. I think it says more about you that you're seeing it written one way or the other
/r/MensRights04/06/18 07:32 PM
1

Oh do NOT try to tell me that's a subjective title. You posted this. You wrote the post title. You presumably read the article. I KNOW you're pushing an agenda. I have no reason to engage with you on this. You aren't just wrong, you're intentionally misrepresenting the truth, and I have absolutely no tolerance for that shit. Piss off.
/r/MensRights04/06/18 07:30 PM
1

Yeah, but they quoted both narratives here. Look, if you still think this article is biased, fine. But I read the article several times. So I know that you're the one pushing an agenda here. You're not gonna convince me otherwise, unless you can find a source that literally says BBC made up one of these quotes. Otherwise, you could not write an article yourself that portrays the facts more neutrally.

Prof Jonathan Haskel's appointment means there is one woman on the MPC. Of those, 19 men and eight women applied and four women and one man were shortlisted. The Business Committee's Rachel Reeves called it "truly staggering", while Nicky Morgan, from the Treasury Committee, said she was "disappointed". Literally the first paragraph. This sub is vague as hell sometimes. Good at identifying a hypocrisy, but never clear about which way it should be. Are both students guilty of sexual misconduct, or are neither of them guilty? What are the implications of a ruling in either way?

If you can find a way to address this "issue" that doesn't backtrack on the real issue, I'll join you.
/r/MensRights30/05/18 10:45 AM

I will address it though. False rape accusations are not as big of a problem for men as actually being raped and not finding justice. And steps taken to make it harder for people to come forward is a step in the wrong direction for men's rights, even if that's not the intention. Also, I'd like to remind people that petitions are, themselves, registries. That's sort of their point. You add your name and address to a list of people who want to put people on the sex abuse registry. I'm just saying,…

Women are sexually assaulted/raped 5x more often then men are. I'm willing to grant you this, but the numbers ARE kind of funny. If we look at rape statistics, and define "rape" as non-consensual sex, then women and men are raped at about the same rate. If you single out violent rape, or if you leave out "forced-to-penetrate" sex (like some studies do), then the numbers change, of course. It's because of this that I consider finding justice for rape victims a bigger men's issue than, say, false …

The thing people never say in these "switch the gender" threads is which way they think it should be. Everyone agrees there's hypocrisy. But should the woman be jailed or should men be allowed to rush volleyball courts?

There can be benefits to having segregated spaces dedicated to certain types of people. Exclusion isn't inherently bad.
/r/MensRights29/04/18 07:18 PM
1

That's not necessarily a problem. That may be indicative of a problem, but it's not, itself, an issue. For example, alimony is this way because the vast majority of bread-winners in families are male, and that's a societal trend that we might want to address as MRAs. That's not a problem with alimony though, just society's expectations of men.

Unless my programming teacher is completely full of bullshit, that just isn't true, because it's been done and demonstrated before. Even then, what's your point? Why are you so bent on making programming a boy's club? I love programming and think everyone should learn it. Did you read the Google Manifesto? He talks about this kind of stuff in there. Diversity is good, you just have to do it right.
/r/MensRights27/04/18 10:33 PM

But there's a difference between "make a program that prints out a data set of objects," and "make a database that keeps track of your meals ordered by cost." Maybe "abstract" isn't the exact word I'm looking for, but it's about seeing the real life applications. I can't count how many times I've written useless programs to demonstrate my understanding of data structures without understanding the usefulness for it. It's something that could easily be adjusted.

Because the numbers aren't there. It's a matter of teaching methods. When you adjust for women, the numbers even out. I remember learning that one method involves making programming practical and relevant when teaching it, showing how to solve real life problems. Guy are usually okay with abstract problems, but when you add the extra layer of practicality, the number of women that stick with the program is a lot closer to men. When we complain about men's participation in college, do we point fi…

I mean "progressive" is kind of a loaded term, and maybe I shouldn't have used it. The way I think of it though, it's someone who is sensitive to social dynamics in society. So yeah, I'm an SJW. I'm an SJW MRA. You can apply that line of thinking to men's rights very easily. Just like there are progressive feminists AND traditional feminists (typically first and second wave feminists). My rule is generally to always point the finger at "society." Like you did. It inspires change without telling anyone individually that they are a problem. And the solution is usually education. Edit: but it's possible we already had a very long argument about this, depending which mod you are.
/r/MensRights23/03/18 11:16 PM

This is... Annoying. Everyone replied to me talking about race. I really didn't care for that. Cool if mass shooters aren't actually majority white, but that's not really the point here.
/r/MensRights23/03/18 09:10 PM

That said, I don't really see anyone proposing alternatives why the vast majority of shooters are white men. As a white man, I'd really like people to start trying to address the issue.

You're asking some huge questions. I don't know that I agree with the premise that... Well... Removing yourself from the gene pool is illogical. I've encountered that way of thinking recently, that passing on your genes is the only purpose to life, and I'm not sure about it. If you are nihilistic, suicide actually seems like the logical option. But yeah, these are "meaning of life" questions.

How do you figure? I'm looking to save it from all the assholes who got every other sub banned. They always come here afterwards, thinking they are welcome and that we are the same. We are not. /r/MensRights is not a hate sub. It doesn't have to be.

You seem like someone worth engaging. I didn't personally read this and think 63% was problematic. Also, she didn't seem to infer any explicit bias against male writes, since she mentions her specific goals were racial only. Third, I don't consider representation to be a men's issue. We have a lot of things going on, but this would be the first I've heard of that. But that's pedantics. This is dumb. I'm here for /r/MensRights, not /r/whiterights. Why is this here?
/r/MensRights15/03/18 04:16 PM

It does make it wildly inappropriate in a space dedicated to empowering men though. Can't you see the irony of the situation? You're not unintelligent for using a lazy insult. You're unintelligent for putting men down over something they should never be faulted for... in the men's rights sub.
/r/MensRights14/03/18 07:22 PM

Well I'd almost prefer it to be used as a lazy insult. That was my point.
/r/MensRights14/03/18 07:20 PM

I really hate seeing this term used on a men's rights sub... When a woman cheats on her partner with another man, why do we place blame on the partner for being a "cuck?"

This whole thread is insanity, but maybe you, I can approach. The spiel I usually give on "patriarchy" is this: it's not much of a patriarchy if it does nothing to benefit men. The point being that, while men are usually the ones in direct control, the heads of society, we've done very little to directly benefit ourselves. Now, I'm not mad for women making a step up, personally. Good for them. I'm just here because I'd like to see men make that step as well. We have a lot of issues that aren't b…

Well there's been a lot of talk about men killing men lately, so this is a nice break from the whining and strawmanning. It seems out of place, because we don't get a lot of "this is what we SHOULD be doing" posts here rather than "this is what we SHOULDN'T be doing." ("we" as a society)

This is a great example of second-wave feminism compared to third-wave feminism. Learning the difference was one of the best decisions of my life. If anyone is curious, this is the source I usually reference for finding the distinction: https://www.pacificu.edu/about/media/four-waves-feminism

I have no source for this, but I remember seeing a similar post where someone pointed out that protests like this are actually asked to leave their trash in the street. The context may have been something different, a parade or something, but I'm just sayin... I guess cities usually ask for that to make clean up easier or something. Edit: So I guess some people already mentioned this, but got downvoted a ton for it... Ah well...
/r/MensRights23/01/18 08:45 AM

This is what is called a "straw man," because you've described the argument of a completely imaginary "they" in order to make the opposition argument seem ridiculous.
/r/MensRights09/01/18 03:50 AM
1

Yeah, do YOU see it? This sub is huge because of anecdotes. You think if we just calmly discussed things in a purely logical and fact-based way that this sub would be this huge? This shit works. I wouldn't have brought it up that this was anecdotal if someone in front of me wasn't already discussing the legitimacy of the study.
/r/MensRights13/12/17 06:18 PM
2

Anecdotes aren't completely useless. They tell a story that help people empathize with another person's situation. You're right, that wasn't a study either. I think it has at least been replicated a few times though.
/r/MensRights12/12/17 08:55 PM
13

I doesn't really matter. One study in one area with only two different people barely constitutes a research study in the first place. As with everything else on this sub, it's pretty much anecdotal. I also don't doubt that this happens, but this shouldn't be considered evidence.

I don't think you can compare the two issues. Even in general, men's issues are usually very severe, but uncommon, while women's issues are small, social ones that are completely saturated throughout society.

This still isn't rigorous enough. I'm an MRA, but I'm trying to be intellectually honest and I've been tripped up by these things in my discussions with other people. Men disposability is the best response to these facts. But the best response to the issue of male disposability is the facts. In my experience with real life discourse, this isn't enough of a debate. Not enough to satisfy me. It just shows that men have a problem as much as they are the problem. The other thing I've been called out…

This is the number one issue in all of mens rights that I have identified. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, that you are not just a woman hater and are competent. I intentionally started off trying to explain that "personal choice" has no place in this discussion. There is no such thing. When we talk generally on a broad scale, people will always act and react, make decisions, based on their circumstances. The circumstances we have are social pressure. Society causes predictable outcomes.…
/r/MensRights24/09/17 05:39 PM
1

The lesson is obviously balance. The story of the bum is as common as the story of the workaholic. This is the problem though. Society needs to change, because every time you and the wife's friends point out this thing every man is painfully aware of already, they perpetuate the issue. They drive more men to the other side.
/r/MensRights24/09/17 05:09 PM
4

Let me help you all out here. Yeah, this isn't news. This is old. The question is whether society pressures women to make choices that put them in lower income positions. "Personal choice" is not a thing here. There's no, "then they can choose to make a different choice!" option here. When we talk about general trends and large groups, circumstances always rule over individual decisions, period. This is what feminism has always been about. They battle the wage gap at the root, with the early chi…

Yes, but... Lightly. It is 90% of this sub, and a huge part of the movement, but I always point to men's liberation as a pro feminist movement, and about half the time I come here, I say something about how this sub still has good people on it and isn't completely lost. I can see their perspective, but there are exceptions that I always represent.
/r/MensRights21/09/17 11:15 PM

Are we to assume this happened because these women hate men or something? Otherwise, I don't much see the point.
/r/MensRights21/09/17 08:20 PM

It's not too late. Stick around and you will find a small handful of good people here. I'd have left long ago, but we come out when it's most important. I don't believe this sub is completely lost yet.
/r/MensRights21/09/17 08:20 PM

The mods are usually pretty good on here, so I'm assuming you're just doing your best to defend a post like this, but it might be better to just leave it. This sub revolves around anecdotal evidence, which is useless in any argument.
/r/MensRights21/09/17 08:15 PM
1

I am not satisfied with that explanation as it doesn't explain why men don't "cry for help." If that's good enough for you, fine, but I require more solid evidence than this speculation. Until then, I don't think I can treat suicide as a "men's issue." I'll be leaving it out of mens rights discussions and talking about homicide instead. I think that's the intellectually responsible thing to do.
/r/MensRights20/09/17 09:43 PM
1

I don't know why, and you don't know why either. I think the other guy's explanation revolved more around the idea that women are just crying for help.
/r/MensRights19/09/17 09:27 PM
1

You're both picking and choosing, and neither of you sufficiently explain why men attempt less than women. Even if they're not "really" attempting, and it's just a cry for help, that doesn't explain why men aren't also crying for help. I just don't think the number add up that way, not in a way where we can say, "look, this is a male problem, not just a problem for everyone." Not without being disingenuous to some degree.
/r/MensRights19/09/17 09:13 PM
1

If that's true, I'd be satisfied with that then.
/r/MensRights19/09/17 05:20 PM
3

I don't feel this explains why women attempt more often than men, not to my satisfaction. It's one of those statistics I find hard to talk about because of this paradox. Nobody seems to represent it honestly.
/r/MensRights19/09/17 08:01 AM

I disagree. If you think social conditioning issues are personal problems, then you misunderstand the issue. By extension of that, you misunderstand men's issues. Go back and watch The Red Pill and all that stuff to catch up.

I don't think the movements have to be adversarial. They both have legitimate concerns. People need to break echo chambers. That's usually the first thing I try to explain to someone breaking their echo chamber and entering this one. The terms "patriarchy" and "toxic masculinity" aren't very well appreciated. The problem isn't necessarily what the terms represent. It's just the nature of the word seems to target men as the cause of the issue. Feminism does well when it tries to change "society" …
/r/MensRights09/09/17 03:14 PM

That doesn't change the facts though. Me doing literally nothing but pointing out that mental illness is real is still one step further than pretending they're just being lazy or something. Yeah, the only way to help may be professional care and medication.
/r/MensRights09/09/17 03:10 PM

Huh. That's an interesting point. It'd be interesting to see data adjusted for this.
/r/MensRights09/09/17 03:01 PM

Are you seriously implying that no adult, who theoretically should have taken and passed junior high school physics, is too stupid to understand a simple explanation involving amperage and voltage? You don't think people like that exist? This is most likely the case. It's important to see everyone's perspective in this. I'm definitely not saying the guy did anything wrong besides possibly over explaining something, probably something he is particularly passionate about.

Thanks for explaining the important part of this whole discussion. I've been arguing with a lot of people about what was said, what was exaggerated, but this is why it's bad that this is happening. I agree. I think she also agrees. After saying that, there was no need to say anything more. There was especially no need to explain why a larger charge pack would be more effective than a smaller one.
/r/MensRights08/09/17 12:54 AM
-1

I don't argue about definitions. Regardless of what word we use to describe it, his explanation was way more technical and involved than the context called for. The context was helping someone charge a phone without access to conventional methods. One does not need to know specific amperage or voltage levels to be able to do this. I don't argue about definitions, because they are relative (see logical fallacy of definitions). However, the definition of "jargon" is, itself, relative to context. T…
/r/MensRights08/09/17 12:48 AM

"jargon" is a relative term. In the context of telling someone a method to charge phones, they won't know nor care to know about amperage.

What's the opposite of sugar coating? Whatever that is is what this sub has done here. I'm not sugar coating. I'm removing the extra anti-sugar that was added. I'm trying to paint her in exactly the same light that she stands in. The correction I'm making is that she isn't using "mansplaining" to deflect an argument, because this wasn't an argument. Now people are accusing me of sugar coating her as a way to deflect my argument.
/r/MensRights07/09/17 07:24 PM

I agree. I think it was a mistake and she overreacted to it. My point is only that this was not an argument, so her jump to mansplaining can't be a deflection.

You're right dude. You got me. Her jumping to sexist rhetoric was just a way to deflect the fact that she was wrong in her argument that the 9V method works. He was just trying to give a helpful alternative solution. If that's true, then I'm completely wrong. After "and if you can't ship in a hurricane?" Yes. He should not have said anything. The terrible advice was already addressed. What was the helpful solution? I must have missed that part.

No, I'm just trying to dick shame a dick shamer. If I'm a "rape victim," then what kind of asshole are you to go around shaming rape victims? Fuck off. This isn't helpful.

Sounds like fun, but I'm not honestly sure what our community here wants. Do people here honestly want programs to hire more male teachers? When we were circle jerking about that lady who fired all her affirmative action women because they weren't able to work, I asked about an alternative. People seemed to agree that "affirmative action" works better in training and education spaces, rather than just dropping it in at the end of the line, when actually being hired. So for this case, do we want …

/r/MensRights26/08/17 04:42 PM

Thanks for the effort to make it less biased. I love how much the MRA has broken through my echo chambers, but I hate how much it's still an echo chamber itself sometimes. I'd like to see /r/askfeminism about this or something, but unfortunately I'm banned. I don't usually like it when we talk about our issues in an adversarial way, men versus women, but this table seems very fair to me.

What the fuck? Yeah, i think you might have the brain of a lizard. If science (not feelings) tells us that you indeed have the brain of a lizard, then yes. You are absolutely a lizard in the body of a person. That's the facts. If the only way to keep you from killing yourself is to surgically attach a tail to your rear, then that is the only ethical option and the medically recognized treatment for your condition. What part of that is controversial? What part of that argument is even based on em…

But you're completely wrong. The brain science about this is not extensive and heavily influenced by political groups, but all results point to that either trans people's brains match brains of the gender they identify as (a small study of like only 24 samples), or that there aren't any major differences between male and female brains (popular with feminists who don't like admitting there are biological differences). Saying trans men have male brains though that's completely unfounded. They defi…

Yeah, it's a mental illness, but if you're suggesting we don't treat it that way, we ignore feelings, we treat boys with girl brains as boys, then you damn a lot of people to a torturous existence and force a lot of people to commit suicide instead. It's not that one is wrong, its that they don't match, and there's only one that we can switch. At no point have I made any appeal to emotion here. That's what I said from the start. Trans issues are completely logical and rational. You want people t…

I don't know much about multiple personalities, and I don't know why people like you like to do the slippery slope thing so much. I think your probably still don't understand what transgender means. When someone is trans, they experience something called "gender dysphoria." It's a mental thing. It's like a severe depression, but tied to the fact that they don't feel their gender matches correctly. That's what the guy in this study would've had, artificially, from being forced to transition. You …

I'm confused what you mean by "double blind?" How would you have done the experiment differently? This one case is, of course, only one case, but I wasn't the one who brought it up. This is exactly what I am talking about. I know trans issues are kind of weird and hard to understand, but it's actually very rational and logical. Oh, guess I misunderstood what he meant by "that beast" and "who would want to?" You're right. I misspoke. Should I delete my comment and repost it to someone else in the thread who did say the word "fat?" Do you think this was the first thread about this that I found where people were claiming no one would ever want to rape someone that big? If nobody here is saying that, then good. I don't care if you want to do that thing reddit does where everyone's like "not enough, she should be hanged from the gallows." Whatever. But don't do this. Don't do the whole fat shaming thing. Don't do that. It's bullshit. It's low. And if nothing else, it's the excuse everyone else is looking for to ban the sub. You know how reddit is about fat shaming. Don't do it.

Well, he got fired because Google is in a diversity lawsuit right now and this whole thing blowing up probably isn't helping no matter what you think of it.
/r/MensRights09/08/17 04:32 PM

That's the problem with this movement. The issues are real. Men die, are raped, lose custody, and get sent to jail at alarming rates. But alarming rates for those things is still pretty low. Most of us have never personally been affected by these things. So we end up with backwards shit like this, because getting rejected in high school IS something people have experienced. Priorities...

/r/MensRights08/08/17 04:00 AM

Negatory. Not a barber shop. It does specialize in men's cuts, but technically they're still just regular hair dressers. Not only can women come in, they can get a haircut. I think this barber shop is alright. They're trans-friendly, and I think that shows something. The playboy picture is a bit weird though, you're right
/r/MensRights08/08/17 03:57 AM

Actually, they claim to be open to trans men, so this is not about genitals. It is about beards. I don't see why beard trimming specialists should have to let women in.

This is not that kind of sub.

The barber IS forward-thinking. If anyone here is complaining about women-only spaces, then they don't understand the issue. I haven't really seen much of that in particular here, but I'll call it out if I see it.

I'm kind of curious what this sub generally thinks of that. Personally, I'm glad that this article pointed out that the barber shop accepts trans men. That's important and shows they're absolutely not just being close-minded.

I don't understand that difference. Unless you mistyped a percentage sign earlier. I mean, yes. It is ridiculous to assume men would lie at the same rate. That's my point. That means they're raped more than women. That's the alternative.

No, that's the whole point of this discussion. He's saying that this 50% is accounting for all those cases where a rape just wasn't convicted. This is literally saying rape victims admitted half the time that they fabricated it completely. That's why he emphasized that the study was not done by analyzing police reports. That's literally the point of the conversation. If THAT'S true, AND we assume the most popular studies say that men are raped roughly the same amount as women (including force to…
/r/MensRights06/08/17 01:27 PM

If thats true, that would mean that men are also raped massive amounts more than women.

/r/MensRights06/08/17 11:47 AM

Yeah, unfortunately this one is tougher than people would like it to be. Either way, I think the more relevant statistic is how many rapes go without justice. Super relevant to men's rights still.

What comment? Who's laughing? This small group? What about everyone else out there laughing at us? You know what they say about us? Do you know what they call us? You think I'm gonna be bothered by you not taking me seriously? You don't take anything seriously.
/r/MensRights06/08/17 11:44 AM
1

What? But what I mean by that is that you do focus on my "special snowflake issue of the day." The whole point of this sub is for men's rights. A HUGE part of that involves rape victims who aren't taken seriously. How can you talk about this one day, and then dismiss a bunch of rape victims the next day?
/r/MensRights06/08/17 11:41 AM
1

Is there something that actually addresses the issue here? I don't really want to read all the way through all of these for something. It would be easier to just "source-bomb" you back. But the point is that, in order for the statistic to be relevant, we have to consider what the truth is in cases that don't end in a verdict. We have to consider rape cases where the perpetrator is someone different from the accused (the cases when DNA evidence match someone else). The cases where the accused is …

I can't find anything that says that, in that article or anywhere else. There's an important distinction to be made when throwing these numbers around. A false allegation doesn't necessarily mean the allegation was proven false. Most rape cases end in plea bargains, which are inconclusive. That's why you cant throw number around. That's where the 2% comes from, proven false cases. That's where people are getting 20 and 30% too, cases where the allegation was not proven true. Anyway, I was just w…

God damn. I can't believe this sub. This man is troubled. I wish there were a way to contact him and show him what men's rights is really about. But mostly, I just hope he can get better and win more visitation. This is such a common issue, and it's exactly what we're fighting for. But this sub.... You see this and get outraged? Seriously, guys? This is exactly what we're here for, and just toss this guy under the bus? I've lost all faith in this sub. Even if this was a fake story, we have to re…

It doesn't really matter, does it? I had that question as well, but that's even MORE reason to react to it correctly. We have to have compassion. We can't just get outraged all the time.

First of all, he's not being threatened with disciplinary action at all. If you read the post, something scummy happened, and instead of talking it out with his team members or even discussing it with a supervisor, he wants to jump straight into a lawsuit. Remember Hidden Figures? Nobody even realized she had to run across campus to get to the bathroom, because she never said anything. You gotta communicate when there's a problem. THEN you can talk about being marginalized and taking legal actio…

Skimming the article, I'm not certain he should've been allowed to see the kids. He was troubled in many ways, and I don't know the whole situation. Either way, this is a really common story. There are plenty of men that should get more visitation and rights. This shows what can happen when they don't get that, whether they deserve it or not

Because A: I can prove way faster that I don't have small balls or legs, and B: I'm pretty sure that idea's been played and disproved already. Everyone else hot swapped to q-angles, because it's not ball size. I don't definitely know that nobody else in the world experiences a need to keep their legs open, but I am skeptical. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not putting the tea pot in space here.

A sample size of one is all it takes to disprove a hypothesis. This isn't stats class, this is science. You have a point, but then people should try explaining it with claims of biology. This is repeatable.
/r/MensRights27/07/17 03:19 PM

It's definitely not that. Go back to the q angle thing. You'll have better luck with that one.
/r/MensRights27/07/17 11:44 AM

That may be the case, however, like people keep telling me to, I've been go ogling around. I can't find any reliable source on this. I don't think I'm really that different from other men. I'm average as can be. I can't prove there isn't some lone male out there who actually can't close their legs. I'll still remain skeptical though. I'm sorry. I don't believe you.
/r/MensRights27/07/17 11:43 AM

I don't have to Google it to prove that the q-angle is not preventing me from closing my legs. I'm not trying to deny that it exists, only that it has any relevance to man-spreading. There. I Googled it. I have a q angle. I closed my legs. Clearly, the q angle does not prevent people from closing their legs. I mean, yeah. A lot of cultures through history and around the world tended to marry around early teenage years. I don't see a problem with that. Another significant difference is that modern western culture is one of the first, few cultures that dont marry for basic survival purposes. I really don't think people will be changing their gender just to get gender privileges. Even if you're joking, I think you don't understand the subject very well. I can't help but feel the opposite here. "Watering down" depictions of men in war seems like it would actually help fight the disposable male idea. We want society to see war as something that everyone takes part in, not just men. I mean, misrepresenting historical events is a different matter, but say this were a fictional film, as part of the MRA movement, wouldn't I want more diverse roles in this?
/r/MensRights24/07/17 11:50 AM

History aside, wouldn't this kind of further our agenda? If we care about how drastic the difference between men and women in the roles of war are, which lead to so many more dead men, then having war movies with more women in them might seek to even that out right? Society could start to see war as less of a men's thing. I'm juts trying to stay logically consistent. I don't care about anything else.

We're not talking about courts though. We're talking about college. Safe spaces were (supposedly) about keeping people from saying negative things about feminism. Then this post is false.
/r/MensRights14/07/17 09:23 AM

I'm guessing you don't really understand it then, because I don't. It's a strange issue, and I think it has a lot to do with how people feel before and after the fact. Also, apparently it's the initiator that needs to get consent, and I know some people who really shouldn't consent to anything after "only one beer."
/r/MensRights14/07/17 05:45 AM

Yeah, I've seen the data that points to this. It's not wrong. Of course, men are far less susceptible to violent rape. The data lines up when you talk about things like alcohol influence nullifying the ability to consent. Also, a lot of studies don't count "forced to penetrate" as rape, which is why we don't hear about this often. It's usually a statistic I whip out when my roommate is manipulating data again.
/r/MensRights13/07/17 05:15 PM

Well it's a fallacy. Saying, "your argument is false because you used a word incorrectly" isn't actually disproving their argument. Just because they misused a word, it doesn't mean that the idea they meant to communicate is wrong. So when someone says, "you're wrong. Feminism is a good thing, because feminism is equality for everyone and cares about men's inequalities too," it's this fallacy. Some people's feminism is for everyone, and some people's feminism isn't.
/r/MensRights12/07/17 07:25 PM

That is ironic XD. Actually, I think it may have a more popular name, but I can't remember it right now. Yeah, it's basically what you described. Good example too. It's a fallacy, because having different ways of defining a word is a pointless argument. The idea behind the word is what the argument should be about. Otherwise, you're just having a miscommunication, not an argument. The "feminism means equality for all" versus "feminism is just for women" argument is exactly that. If a person's pe…

It's not the death that's tragic about suicide, it's the wanting to die. But that's a personal belief borne simply from my own experience. Oh we're in a shouting match now? Yes it does. Even if dead boys did get to try multiple times, women would still deal with more suicidal thoughts than men. Suicide is the #3 leading cause of death in teens, supporting my argument that this is an issue for everyone by your own logic. I'm a proud men's rights activist and a fact-based logical thinker. /r/MensRights18/06/17 11:10 PM

According to my man-hating roommate, "A survey of college students shows that 95% of men would rape if they knew they could get away with it."

I fucking hate rape. That's why I was so, so hesitant to jump on any kind of men's rights bus for a long time. A lot of people would have us think MRA are rape apologists. Maybe some of them are, but not all.

Have you read Cosmo? Yeah, neither have I, but the magazines at the the checkout stands are full of self improvement stuff on the covers.

If you're addressing this issue by trying to attack, incriminate, and bring down women to our level, who are you helping? This is a men's issue.

According to https://datausa.io/about/, there were only 2,494 women's studies degrees awarded in 2015. In comparison, there were over 28,000 Computer Science degrees awarded, and the national rate of women in stem fields is about 25%. That means there are almost three times as many women with Computer Science degrees alone compared to all the people with women's studies degrees. But yeah, I was gonna say that too. If you really want karma on reddit, mention something like vocational studies.

Or the meninists arent the real MRA right? I've heard that one here before.
/r/MensRights01/06/17 06:15 PM

I hate reddit for this. People here act like if you're not engineering or computer science, you're throwing your life in the trash. I just can't believe that fine arts or liberal arts are completely useless. And that's the thing, people talk about these gender studies degrees like THAT'S what women are taking. What about education degrees? Nursing is a women's field, and it's one of the fastest growing fields. What about journalism and writing? What about anthropology or other social studies? An…

Would that make you more likely to go? It's certainly interesting. I think you're right about 15 years ago. Go back a bit further, like the 70s, some comic books were actually kind of sexist, so it's easy to see why women haven't traditionally been into that. I'm glad things have changed for women in that regard. I hope to see more improvement in male characters soon too though.

The way I see it, having a "this gender only" event is only useful in one situation, when you want more members of that gender to participate in that thing in general. So you have to ask the question, "do we want to influence more women to watch Marvel?" "Do we want to influence more men to watch Star Wars?" I think it's clear which demographic is underrepresented in these events. However, it's kind of dumb to complain about "this gender only" events no matter what. Even if star wars is male-dom…

Don't respond. It's a bait. You can still advocate for equal rights and stuff without taking a label.

It's says either: I'm misinformed, like I originally stated, These people aren't real feminists, Or that none of this is true. It also says that I believe in equal rights, so that's a good thing. Anyway, this leaves me with a lot of questions, but also someplace to start. Thank you for explaining.

I've learned a lot about men's issues and it's something I care a lot about. But I'm still a feminist. Maybe there's something I don't know about feminism. That said, if that's what you think about feminism, it really says a lot about your meninism.

I guess that's why I'm still a feminist.

I think, in many case, "forced to penetrate" is not considered rape for a man, only penetration. I've seen statistical studies that counted it like this, but I don't know what the legal definitions are.

In the word of my programming prof, "I DON'T GIVE A FUCK, I HAVE TENURE! :D"

There's no context to this. I read this as a protest against women's opinions being silenced.

This is important so that more of the actual rape accusations of Uber drivers will be listened to!

There are men in prison today who will serve decades in jail who did not rape the woman who accused them. Rape is one of the least falsely accused crimes, and it's important to note that for all the same reasons. Reducing false rape accusations does nothing if the public still thinks it's a common thing.

Why do they choose those careers? Why is that what they want to do?

Why is that?

That's obviously not true though. You just said it. We see more women at step two. Why aren't they showing up at step four?

Doesn't that just further make the wage gap, or "career gap," more questionable? They're generally more qualified for less important jobs?
/r/MensRights12/12/16 01:00 PM

I just don't believe it. Women aren't equal in any other place in society, so why would they be equal in wages? It just isn't believable. Maybe that is the difference. Women aren't paid less for jobs, they're just forced to take less paying jobs. Still not sure I'd believe it that way though...
