How is "best performing candidate" determined and how would he find out? Really weird that HR would let any reasoning slip on why he wasn't hired... There is such a thing as culture fit and it's more important than performance. Someone can be amazing but if your team won't work with them as effectively then it's not worth it.

It is counter intuitive but it's procedure based on what is safest for the officers. Someone wielding a knife against someone with a gun has proven they're willing to die to cause harm. Also a moving target is a lot harder to hit than a stationary one (gaps close fast and shots might not stop momentum)

I wish we could convince organizations to raise money for stomach / bowel cancer instead of prostate cancer throughout movember. Prostate cancer seems to be more about early detection / treatment than anything and doesn't necessarily need funding as much as awareness.

Not an argument.... Marriage laws in Canada tie into insurance and pensions which have specific clauses for males and females. Same sex couples won't get these benefits, get to choose or will be randomly assigned roles. With this in mind there is a lot more that needs to change in regards to our out-dated marriage laws for everyone.

The U.K. is entirely another animal when it comes to domestic violence. They have major problems with people not talking about it and other factors (poverty, generations of abuse, addictions, etc...) that make it worse. I agree with you. The whole "If genders were reversed" argument is used too frequently here. Men and Women are not equal. We cannot be equal because we are not the same. I think that study may have been skewed by the surface area of exposed skin. Say it was a larger woman and the skin being exposed was all bulging and popping out everywhere that may have a significant impact on the level of interest. Aren't there only people with xx and xy chromosomes? If that is the basis for determining sexes then unless there are yy then there are only two genetic sexes. Check out this ted talk by Helen Fisher here. That page has a transcript, if you search for genius you'll see the part where she talks about there being more male geniuses than female geniuses but that there are also more male idiots than female idiots. Now with this is mind it may be an interesting theory to consider that the Y chromosome may be responsible for more than is typically considered. This could explain why males vary in intelligence more than women.
