Child support. No, they are not forgiven after 18 (and in some places now continue through college age!) We've heard about a father whose kids were in their 20s, he was in 50s and had great relationship with them, and he still "owed" the wife child support arrears. One day the cops catch up with him and put him in jail. Despite the adult kids desperately trying to reason with their mother, she wouldn't budge or make a deal. This stuff haunts men FOR LIFE. :-(

Well put. It is a complete money scam, which is made even worse by pretending it's "for the children."

I hear you. My boyfriend is a dad in this situation now, and his children are held hostage by his ex who sounds very similar to your mom. It is astounding how people can't get the caregiver/ mother image out of their heads, even if her actions show otherwise. In the midst of all the emotional and mental abuse she is putting her children through, and how she uses the courts to ruin my boyfriend's life and career, his family still says Oh but she's a good mom and says he is somehow in the wrong. S…

Yup...So it's truly not about the money anymore. (and the best part is, even though he is in jail, the arrears during this time period keep adding up! He keeps 'owing' her more even though they have taken away all means for him to pay her. ?!)

I read Ed this comment and oddly enough he said something similar the other week. The other week he said to the judge something about "well this is clearly a Race to the Bottom." It was quiet, and the judge just blinked and said, "...I don't even know what that means.... What does that MEAN???" haha Ed just said he started laughing at the absurdity of someone so unintelligent he can't figure out the innuendo of a common phrase, having the power to take away his job and send him to jail.

Thanks for the good conversation and support. I just spoke with Ed, and as per the latest blog post, even some of his family isn't supportive. No joke, his dad was still screaming..."But...she's a good person!!" about his ex. Sigh. Anyway, though Ed isn't religious now he is still very spiritual-he knows this great bible verse about how Christ talks about family not just being a function of bloodline, but family as in those who have your back and defend what is right and walk by your side throug…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
